PSP Hacks :: PSPersonalize

This tutorial will explain how to change your background using PSPersonalize. For simplicity I've created a custom PSPersonalize package for the no-swap KXploit method.

We're not responsible if you render your PSP useless.

Note: This DOES NOT work on 1.51 or 1.52 firmware versions - strictly 1.50!

What you need:

PSPersonalize (KXploit Package) (http://www.psp-hacks.com/downloads/PSPersonalize_v1a-kxploit.zip)
Backup of Original PSP Backgrounds (http://www.psp-hacks.com/downloads/PSP_Stock.zip)
Some new PSP Backgrounds! (http://www.psp-hacks.com/psp-backgrounds.php)
There are 12 months in a year, thus 12 possible backgrounds for the PSP. You MUST rename the bitmaps you download to XX.BMP (XX represents numeric two digit month)

examples:

01.BMP - January
02.BMP - February
03.BMP - March
04.BMP - April
05.BMP - May
06.BMP - June
07.BMP - July
08.BMP - August
09.BMP - September
10.BMP - October
11.BMP - November
12.BMP - December
Remember the following rules when using a custom background - the image must be:

a 24-bit Bitmap (BMP)
<= 150KB in size
<= 300x170 resolution
Got it? Good.

First create a USB connection between your PSP and PC.
Extract PSPersonalize_v1a-kxploit.zip to your memory stick under \PSP\GAME - this will create two directories, so you'll end up with:
PSP\GAME\PSPersonalize%
PSP\GAME\PSPersonalize

Rename your BMP's respectively
Copy the BMP's to the root directory of your memory stick. If Windows recognizes your PSP as drive letter i: then copy the bitmap(s) to i:\. The final result should resemble this directory structure:

<?xml:namespace prefix = v ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:vml" /><v:shapetype id=_x0000_t75 stroked="f" filled="f" path="m@4@5l@4@11@9@11@9@5xe" o:preferrelative="t" o:spt="75" coordsize="21600,21600"><v:stroke joinstyle="miter"></v:stroke><v:formulas><v:f eqn="if lineDrawn pixelLineWidth 0"></v:f><v:f eqn="sum @0 1 0"></v:f><v:f eqn="sum 0 0 @1"></v:f><v:f eqn="prod @2 1 2"></v:f><v:f eqn="prod @3 21600 pixelWidth"></v:f><v:f eqn="prod @3 21600 pixelHeight"></v:f><v:f eqn="sum @0 0 1"></v:f><v:f eqn="prod @6 1 2"></v:f><v:f eqn="prod @7 21600 pixelWidth"></v:f><v:f eqn="sum @8 21600 0"></v:f><v:f eqn="prod @7 21600 pixelHeight"></v:f><v:f eqn="sum @10 21600 0"></v:f></v:formulas><v:path o:connecttype="rect" gradientshapeok="t" o:extrusionok="f"></v:path><?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /><o:lock aspectratio="t" v:ext="edit"></o:lock></v:shapetype><v:shape id=_x0000_i1026 style="WIDTH: 225pt; HEIGHT: 185.25pt" alt="" o:button="t" target="_blank" href="http://www.psp-hacks.com/images/psp-bmps.jpg" type="#_x0000_t75"><v:imagedata src="file:///C:\DOCUME~1\@HOMEC~1\LOCALS~1\Temp\msohtml1\01\cli p_image001.jpg" o:href="http://www.psp-hacks.com/images/psp-bmps-s.jpg"></v:imagedata></v:shape> (http://www.psp-hacks.com/images/psp-bmps.jpg)

<o:p> </o:p>

Browse to the Game menu on your PSP
Select PSPersonalize - disregard any "Corrupted Data" - it's nothing
Boot PSPersonalize
It will automatically detect the BMP's in the root directory. Press "O" to confirm the background change or press "X" to cancel
You'll end up at a "finished..." screen. <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" /><st1:place><st1:PlaceName>Press</st1:PlaceName> <st1:PlaceName>"</st1:PlaceName><st1:PlaceType>Home</st1:PlaceType><st1:PlaceName>"</st1:PlaceName></st1:place> and return to the PSP menu
You should see your background, depending which month you selected. If you don't try rebooting the PSP

<v:shape id=_x0000_i1025 style="WIDTH: 187.5pt; HEIGHT: 90.75pt" alt="" o:button="t" target="_blank" href="http://www.psp-hacks.com/images/psp-custom-background-large.jpg" type="#_x0000_t75"><v:imagedata src="file:///C:\DOCUME~1\@HOMEC~1\LOCALS~1\Temp\msohtml1\01\cli p_image002.jpg" o:href="http://www.psp-hacks.com/images/psp-custom-background.jpg"></v:imagedata></v:shape> (http://www.psp-hacks.com/images/psp-custom-background-large.jpg)

If problems persist, head over to www.dual-scene.com (http://www.dual-scene.com/) - they've got videos demonstrating how to fix common problems people are experiencing.

Also a big thanks to dual-scene.com - DrEggman and Vampire for developing PSPersonalize!

PSP Hacks :: Hidden Browser

We've created a portal for any PSP users wishing to start surfing the net. Before this portal you had to create you own DNS server which wasn't very practical. Now you can simply set you DNS to this new portal and presto! Your surfing the web on your PSP. There is another portal out there but it runs off someone's home machine. This is the first and only that I know of that runs on a dedicated server and is up 24/7 happy web surfing on your Sony PSP.

Go to Network Settings > Infrastructure mode in your PSP. Create a new setting (recommended) or edit an existing one.
Choose a connection name (maybe 'portal' or 'psp-hacks.com' it doesn't matter as long as you can remember it).
Enter SSID and Encryption options for the wireless access point (AP). You must already know this info
For address settings, go down and choose 'custom'.
For IP address settings, choose 'automatic' (or choose another option, if you want a static IP).
For DNS setting, choose manual. (This is extremely important)
For primary DNS, input this: 67.15.168.116 (ns.psp-hacks.com)
I left secondary DNS to whatever you want, I recommend your ISP's so if this DNS server goes down you'll know the hack isn't going to work.
Proxy server: Do not use
Confirm & save.
Ready?
11. Boot Wipeout Pure. Get to the main menu, go down to Download.
12. OK to ESRB notice. Choose the connection you just set up.
If all went well, you should see this screen - our PSP Portal! (click to enlarge)

<?xml:namespace prefix = v ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:vml" /><v:shapetype id=_x0000_t75 stroked="f" filled="f" path="m@4@5l@4@11@9@11@9@5xe" o:preferrelative="t" o:spt="75" coordsize="21600,21600"><v:stroke joinstyle="miter"></v:stroke><v:formulas><v:f eqn="if lineDrawn pixelLineWidth 0"></v:f><v:f eqn="sum @0 1 0"></v:f><v:f eqn="sum 0 0 @1"></v:f><v:f eqn="prod @2 1 2"></v:f><v:f eqn="prod @3 21600 pixelWidth"></v:f><v:f eqn="prod @3 21600 pixelHeight"></v:f><v:f eqn="sum @0 0 1"></v:f><v:f eqn="prod @6 1 2"></v:f><v:f eqn="prod @7 21600 pixelWidth"></v:f><v:f eqn="sum @8 21600 0"></v:f><v:f eqn="prod @7 21600 pixelHeight"></v:f><v:f eqn="sum @10 21600 0"></v:f></v:formulas><v:path o:connecttype="rect" gradientshapeok="t" o:extrusionok="f"></v:path><?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com /><o:lock aspectratio=</o:lock></v:shapetype><v:shape id=_x0000_i1025 style="WIDTH: 210pt; HEIGHT: 112.5pt" alt="PSP Hacks Web Browser Portal" o:button="t" target="_blank" href="http://www.psp-hacks.com/images/psp-hacks-portal.jpg" type="#_x0000_t75"><v:imagedata src="file:///C:\DOCUME~1\@HOMEC~1\LOCALS~1\Temp\msohtml1\03\cli p_image001.jpg" o:href="http://www.psp-hacks.com/images/psp-hacks-portal.jpg"></v:imagedata></v:shape> (http://www.psp-hacks.com/images/psp-hacks-portal.jpg)

Now enjoy surfing the net on your Playstation portable.

PSP Hacks :: Game Online

Well, this isn't really a "hack" per say; although it's pretty dope. Using the software, XLinK KAI (http://www.teamxlink.co.uk/), provided by Team Xlink, we are able to successfully play any Sony PSP game online which uses the Ad Hoc wireless technology. Anyway, let's continue...

· What you need (http://www.psp-hacks.com/psp-online-gaming.php#requirements)

· Preparing XLink KAI (http://www.psp-hacks.com/psp-online-gaming.php#preparing-xlink)

· Flashing your Wireless Router (http://www.psp-hacks.com/psp-online-gaming.php#flash-router)

· Preparing the Router (http://www.psp-hacks.com/psp-online-gaming.php#preparing-router)

· Play Online! (http://www.psp-hacks.com/psp-online-gaming.php#play-online)

· Tips and Help (http://www.psp-hacks.com/psp-online-gaming.php#tips)

· Online Screenshots (http://www.psp-hacks.com/psp-online-gaming.php#screenshots)

· Conclusion (http://www.psp-hacks.com/psp-online-gaming.php#conclusion)

What you need:

XLink KAI - download here (http://www.teamxlink.co.uk/downloads.php)
A Sony PSP
A Linksys WRT54G or WRT546S or Buffalo WBR-G54 wireless router
Custom PSP / XLink KAID router firmware - download here (http://www.angelfire.com/trek/ahman) (ensure you grab the latest version)
Very basic knowledge of routers/firewalls
Preparing XLink Kai

After downloading XLink KAI, proceed with the installation - it's a very simple procedure, just run the "xlinkkaievo7.exe" executable.
Next you'll need to create an "XTag" which will be your XLink user name. Click here (http://www.teamxlink.co.uk/?go=register) to create your XTag now!
Head to Start -> Programs -> XLink KAI Evolution 7 and run Start KAI Config Tool
Under UI select Java
Check Enable PAT, Launch UI and enter your XTag information
Uncheck Launch Engine - the engine will be running on the router
Flashing your Wireless Router

Open up the web based router configuration, typically located at http://192.168.1.1. Log in.
Browse to the Administration -> Firmware Upgrade page
Select the firmware that you downloaded earlier and DO NOT reset factory defaults.
Press Upgrade. NOTE: we do not take any responsibility if this firmware renders your router useless.
Preparing the Router

After the router reboots, log into the web administration interface
Disable Wireless -> MAC Filter
Browse to Administration and enter your XLink information under "Kaid Config"
Interface will be either:

br0 - this will allow both Xbox and PSP to function on all 3 routers
eth2 - PSP only on Linksys WRT54G 1.0 and 1.1, and Buffalo WBR-G54 routers
eth1 - PSP only on Linksys WRT54G 2.0 and 2.2 routers

NOTE: locate the version # beneath the router

Browse to Administration -> Kaid
Start Kaid - this will launch the intergrated XLink Kai engine
Play Online!

Fire up your PSP and load the game which uses Ad Hoc for multiplayer. (Wipeout Pure, Ridge Racer, etc...)
Fire up the XLink KAI and go to Menu -> Settings.
Under the GUI settings, specify the IP address of the KAID engine (IP address of your router)
Also enter your XTag information
Connect and join the PSP Arena
Select the game you wish to play
On your PSP, put the game in multiplayer mode - join or host a game
Back at the router configuration under Administrator -> Kaid press "Scan PSP"
If all goes well, XLink and the router should detect your PSP, allowing you to begin game play!
Tips and Help: if you're experiencing problems

Note: Any wireless devices on your existing network will not be functional while the router is operating in Ad Hoc (PSP) mode.
If the KAID engine is unable to start, ensure your router's DNS configuration settings are working correctly.
If XLink is unable to detect your PSP, please ensure your router can first. View the status of this under the web-based configuration for your router by going to Administration -> Kaid - you should see the current SSID of your PSP and the Wireless Mode should state PSP.
Often times I've noticed I'll have to keep clicking "Scan PSP" in order for XLink to initially detect your PSP
Also check our forum thread (http://www.psp-hacks.com/forums/about90.html) for further assistance

Conclusion:

Chances are this won't go as smoothly as you think. I ran into numerous problems trying to get this working properly; however, don't give up! I was successful and it will work! We have setup a forum thread (http://www.psp-hacks.com/forums/about90.html) for those who are having difficulty in setting this up. We'll try and provide you with support to get you on your way.

Great roundup brad666, but I wrote some of the stuff in that document - some of the starter guide and how to run homebrew :eek:

Also, this is a great document to read, an Ultimate Homebrew Guide/FAQ (http://www.psphacker.com/forum/showthread.php?t=2323) which I also compiled / wrote.

Good job compiling that info though.

I just bought a PSP 2 weeks gone, it was just released in my country 2months ago. Anyway before I purchased it, I wasn't aware of emulators etc... Now I'm kicking myself because I have the 1.51 version.
Anyway, I went to the website above www.psp-hacks.com to read up on how to upgrade to 2.0 in order to downgrade to 1.50 (is that correct?). I'm not to clued up on this stuff, but I just wanted to know if there are any risks involved when downloading the upgrades/downgrades? Such as trojans that may cause lasting damage to the PSP? Just wanting to know before I go ahead and give it a go. If anyone has some advice for me I would really really appreciate it! :confused:

I posted it before but it got deleted by one of the mods , princess , she went carzy and started deleting everything. And then got banned. So I reposted it and then when I became a full mod , I made it a stickey. You can keep the FAQ here. Im just saying he could have asked first. Thats all. But thats ok. Its not like the noobs read the stickeys anyway.

Its not like the noobs read the stickeys anyway.

Well your a better man then me, I'd be real pissed if any thing with that much work into it was stolen from me.

Alright, I need help...bad.
I don't know how to put music, vids, or pics on my PSP.

I hook up my PSP to my PC, put it on USB mode, and go F:.
When I try to create a new folder in F:, it says "Unable to create 'New Folder', The System Cannot Find The File Specified.

When I try to send an mp3 to it, it says "Cannot copy, Cannot find the specified file. Make sure you specify the correct path and file name."

Hmm that is odd that it is unable to create a folder. Never heard this problem before. Are you sure the F: drive is the PSP's memory stick?

I'm too ignorant to know any better.
Is there any way to find out?

Yeah, I go to My Computer and I see PSP (F: ).....I renamed the drive label to PSP, I forget the original name...But, I don't see "Removable Hard Drive".
Although, under the detals of PSP, it does say "Removable Disk".
I've went in there before and tried to copy music files and make new folders....but get the same problem as I listed above.

Do you remember if its original name was...
Removable Disk (F: )

Alright, have you also tried formating the memory stick using the PSP and your computer?

no iso discussion.. but I will say that winrar tends to try to open up rar files and view them like any other compressed archive. anyway NO ISO DISCUSSION PERIOD.

OKay...I'm encountering the same problems...once again.
Is there another website you can point me to?

I have no clue what's going on....
I mean, I put a few music tracks on my PSP the other day...today, it's like my PC doesn't even recognize my PSP....none of the folders are in there...nothing.

I try formatting the memory stock from the PSP....nothing.
I try formatting it from my PC....when I click format, my PC takes no action.
I've tried restarting my PC and then trying to connect my PSP to it...
The PC will search for the folders that were once there (with the whole popup flashlight thingy)....but, nothing happens.

Could it be a problem with my PSP, should I take it back?
Could it be a problem with my memory stick??

Try getting a card reader, if you don't already have one built-in to your pc. I was having the same problem. I would use the usb connection, but got the "Cannot copy...", etc. errors when trying to copy files, create new folders, dont remember if the same thing happened when trying to delete files. So I popped the ms duo into my card reader, and it worked flawlessly. However, now, my card reader would not be able to read the duo on its own at all, so I tried putting it into the memory stick duo >> pro adapter, and the card reader then recognizes it. However, in between transfers, it would always automatically stop working, and the card reader itself would no longer be recognized by the PC until i disconnect it, and reconnect it. When I try again, same thing keeps happening. So I tried with the USB connection psp feature again, and now that is working perfectly. I guess Im lucky that Ive always had an alternative available. You should look into investing in a card reader, since they've become very cheap now, and come in use a lot, (digi cams, cell phone mem cards, PSP, etc.) However, when purchasing one, make sure it can read memory stick pro DUO's or, if you have an adapter to change it to just a pro, make sure it can at least read pro's. Dont know if this will help in any way, but good luck :)

Brad hasn't been on these forums since Sept 26th 2005. Don't expect a reply. Plus Brad had stolen this information from another site. He simply copied and pasted it. We are only keep it up because the real author is okay with it.

Sundowner, you are obviously a real newbie. If you have 1.5, then you can download a homebrew browser or use the wipeoutpure browser. email me at [email protected] if you need more
