Just need the video ID, dont have to edit the url from 'watch?v=' to 'v/'.

You don't really need to do that,
You take the embed code from the youtube page and delete the stuff in front and behind the url.
For example, just keep the bold text here.

I still find click/drag ctr+c from after the = in the URL in the address box up top easier than scrolling through and copying from that small embed box.

i've tried and tried to post them, But videos came along after my time. And I kinda missed the memo on that one :o

Dude you don't need to do that. You just left click on it, which highlights it all. Then right click and Copy.
Then paste away!

But then you still have to edit it after you paste to delete all the extra stuff, that takes precious seconds :)
This way its just copy and paste inside the tags.

I go to great trouble to save minute amounts of effort.

I do believe that a monkey could play Guitar Hero though, cause a 5 year old kid can beat Expert Mode! (which I would love to see a video of a monkey) :p
