Recent job listings posted by Electronic Arts indicate that an open-world Star Wars game is in development. One of the listings, seeking an animation director (http://careersearch.ea.com/ca/burnaby/art/jobid3993862-animation-director-jobs) for EA Canada, is for "a major new next gen open world action game" in the beloved sci-fi property. The same description is listed for an executive producer (http://careersearch.ea.com/ca/canada/producer/executive-producer-star-wars-jobs) position and a lead combat designer (http://careersearch.ea.com/ca/burnaby/game-design/jobid3993852-lead-combat-designer-jobs) position at the studio, which was linked to the Star Wars property by a former recruiter for the publisher onTwitter (https://twitter.com/ZebaManki/status/380392970672807937).

The concept of an open-world Star Wars game isn't new, as Just Cause (http://www.joystiq.com/game/just-cause)developer Avalanche Studios (http://www.joystiq.com/2013/05/07/avalanche-was-almost-signed-to-make-massive-star-wars-open-wo/) nearly signed with LucasArts to develop one sometime between 2005 and 2009. Likewise, LucasArts' Star Wars 1313 (http://www.joystiq.com/game/star-wars-1313) was reportedly being developed as an open-world game before Disney closed the developer (http://www.joystiq.com/2013/04/03/disney-closes-lucasarts/) and halted (http://www.joystiq.com/2013/04/04/star-wars-1313-halted-says-lucasfilm/) the game's development in April.

EA obtained the exclusive rights to develop and publish Star Wars games in May (http://www.joystiq.com/2013/05/06/ea-disney-exclusive-rights-star-wars/), later announcing a new DICE-developed Star Wars: Battlefront game at E3, expected to arrive in mid-2015 (http://www.joystiq.com/2013/08/01/star-wars-battlefront-most-likely-in-summer-2015/). The publisher also recently claimed that it willnot pursue (http://www.joystiq.com/2013/11/20/ea-not-pursuing-games-based-on-new-star-wars-movies/) any games based on the new movies in the series.
