Ok time for some major changes as I am back with a 1.50 PSP again lol. So here is what I have so far. The size of the list is hopefully going to work with just the font size change I am trying... we shall see.

A Huge THANKS to all EMU creators & developers as well as all developers for the PSP, without you I def would not enjoy my PSP as much as I do now! (Nor would the many ppl who post here and in other communities)

Now first I want to add the EMU's that are available & how they stack up outside of my personal thoughts on them. I am also expanding to include the NES EMU's & hopefully soon the Sega EMU's.

As far as Games/ROMs compatibility look below for what’s not working on each EMU and what is. It is an on going test & some of the games I do not have so they have to be updated by those trying to play them. I will try to keep things as updated as possible though so keep checking back & if you find out before I do, let me know :D .

Downgraders for V2.0 to V1.5 are here! Use this Guide!!

Downgraders for V2.5/2.6 are here! This is the Easy Version.
http://www.dcemu.co.uk/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=28181

Quick FAQ on installing EMU's on 1.5
Ok first Download the tool: SEI PSP Tool (http://www.psparchive.de/cgi-bin/cfiles.cgi?0,0,1,0,15)
For Mac Users this is VERY sim to SEI Tool: HomebrewPSP for OS X (http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/27122)
Now get your Emulator from one of the links below, & download it to the desktop.
Unzip the files to your desktop & connect your PSP!!
Now open SEI & direct it to the desktop (Just keep pushing the icon with the folder & an arrow). When you get there you will ONLY see the EBOOT file of that EMU (Please do only one EMU at a time & delete the files on your desktop before starting the next one!!!).
Now You name the file in the first text box, select the eboot file in the second one & the third you just select which one is your psp drive letter. (The PSP Must be connected & in USB Mode for this to work!!! You can find your drive letter by looking under My Computer.)
After you have done all that just select hide corrupt files & click Generate. Now go to your PSP (Using My Computer) & go to PSP->Games->Whatever you named your EMU. Now put any remaining files (excluding text files) into the folder WITHOUT the % Sign. Also put your Roms in that same folder. Now your ready to play your Emulator(s)/and Homebrew!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Ok first to the Super Nintendo.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Need to Know Information:
Many have asked what settings to use for the best performance. Now there are many settings used to attain good speed & game play. I personally have discovered the following with all EMU's on the Super Nintendo Side;

Frame Skip @ 0-3 (Any higher then this will make effects such as laser blasts, flashes, etc not appear as well as when your character is hit; if they flash when damaged, most of the time they just completely disappear if the Frame Skip is above 3) With Auto Frame Skip or the Speed Limiter (They are identical just one is UO SNES and the other is SNES9X TYL) its good to leave on, it basically tells ur PSP to use up to the number you set (aka 1-3) to speed up & slow down the game (Slow down for when theres little action/sprites etc & it makes things seem like they are on super speed lol). I have found that even at 3 some enemys in Illusion of Gaia disappear so switching to 2 at times is needed!

CPU set at 333mhz (Let me clear this up for those who would ask, The PSP comes UNDERCLOCKED!! at 222mhz. It is made to run at 333mhz but that drains the battery much faster & so Sony Underclocked the PSP's Processor to increase battery life. In all actuality you are not overclocking the processor or harming it, the CPU & all its components were made to run at 333mhz from the day it was made, but since Sony locked it at 222mhz until better batteries are available (& until Gran Turismo 4 comes to PSP) we have to manually turn it back up to the normal speed. So do not be concerned with using this option. However as the PSP EMU's progress you might find that you do not need to clock as high which will help get you better battery life (Or just buy the new battery).

Sound and Graphics speeds can be changed in UO SNES but I have found it to be really more effort then its worth. The Graphics speed up works with some games and others it causes problems with, on the Sound Speed it can be useful for certain events but then it just throws the music to extreme speeds when it becomes unneeded.

Sound @ 44k (Dropping to 22k is an option but in every game that I tried it I did not see any increase in speed nor did the frame rate counter go up any).

Transparency On (While turning it off does give you 1-3 more frames, 9 times out of 10 it also drops parts of the game. In Chrono Trigger its mainly just graphics effects on special attacks however in Zelda you have to run Transparency, unless you like not seeing the ground at times lol. Personally for the small gain I found using the graphics speed up more effective then losing transparency & recommend learning to use that instead & leaving this on.)

For what screen Size to use, I run Full Screen on botht UO SNES and on SNES9x TYL. For UO SNES I use the FullBL Screen Mode. (Can be fund by going past normal Full Screen Mode). For SNES9X TYL I use the default of Accurate Mix with Full Screen.

First We have the SNES9X TYL Release (http://psp-news.dcemu.co.uk/snespsp_tyl.shtml)

This Emulator was made by: YoyoFr, and many others. (I am working on a full list for all those who helped)

This is a Port of SNES9X 1.39. It was ported using some of the Palm Version from what I understand and for its first release a very Fast and well done EMU. It has proven to play many games faster then what was the current champ at the time (UO SNES9X). While it is a new release it does have a few minor bugs to work out but it is def the Fastest Emulator available for SNES Gaming, playing some games at full speed with no Frame Skip at all. It is loaded with features and screen filters. Not to mention the things promised in the next release included Speed improvements across the board among other things. This is my personal choice right now for SNES Emulation. The EMU below this is very nice as well but just not as fast. Plus the menu’s in this EMU are great! (It could use an Icon in the PSP Menu though).

The Available Options Include:
Different Graphics Filters, From Speed Setups to a Mix to a Full out Graphics Eye Candy
Speed Limiter (Just like Auto Frame Skip)
Screen Sizes to include, Zoom 1, Zoom 2 and Full
Transparency On and Off
Sound Quality Filter 44k to 22k etc
CPU Overclocking from 222 – 266 – 333
Freeze States

Second We have the U.O. Super Nintendo Release (UO SNES9x) (http://psp-news.dcemu.co.uk/unofficialsnes9xpsp.shtml)

This Emulator was made by: PSP Wiki/ Y

This is a port of SNES9x to the PSP. It is the most frequently updated of the SNES Emulators. It also sports the most options for controlling your games.
Personally I feel this to be the best EMU available for Super Nintendo Emulation, however it does not play all games. Corrections are being made but there are still problems (see the compatibility list below) Make sure your game(s) is not on the list! We try to keep it as updated as possible. I would recommend this EMU to all users as it gives you all the options you could need & is updated almost daily.

Those options include:
Graphics & Sound controls (These allow you to speed up the Sound & or Graphics up to 3 times there normal speed to help compensate if you feel they are falling behind)
Auto Frame Skip as well as Manual Frame Skip.
Screen Size Changes to include 4:3, Full Screen Width x2 & more.
Sound Options include Turning On & Off as well as Quality level.
Transparency can be Turned On & Off.
PSP CPU Processor Overclocking up to 333mhz
Freeze States

Next We have SNES9x .003a (http://psp-news.dcemu.co.uk/snes9xpsp.shtml)

This Emulator was made by: PSP Wiki / Bifuteki

This is a port of SNES9x to the PSP. This EMU is the most Compatible of all Super Nintendo Emulators. It plays most every game. If you have a game listed on the NON-Working Side of UO SNES then I recommend using this EMU. It has a lot of the features of the UO release but not all of them. The EMU has not seen an update in some time and I do not expect it will see one any time soon.

The options of this EMU are as follows:
Auto Frame Skip as well as Manual Frame Skip.
Screen Size Changes to include 4:3, Full Screen Width x2.
Sound Options include Turning On & Off.
Transparency can be Turned On & Off.
PSP CPU Processor Overclocking up to 333mhz
Freeze States

Work in Progress & Early Emulators

Optimized SNES9x (http://psp-news.dcemu.co.uk/snes9xoptimised.shtml); This EMU has not seen an update for awhile & does not include many of the functions of the above EMU's.
This Emulator was made by: Yoshihiro

Super Nintendo ROMs Compatibility:

Next Up is the Nintendo System Emulation

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

As for Emulator settings on the Nintendo:

As for Sound I ran at 44k all the time no problems. (NesterJ)

On Graphics I did full screen again with no problems. (NesterJ)

You can attain full speed w/ a max overclock of 270mhz (W/ NesterJ). While you do not have to overclock with most games I have found that using 270mhz seems to handle every game I have thrown at it at 50fps or above most of the time to include Mario 3. You can max it to the full 333mhz if you want but I just set mine to 270mhz & leave it there. In a few games as with my original Nintendo when to many characters hit the screen the game seem to have a split second lag but I found no difference at 333mhz in those games & since they happened on the original system I just wrote them off as being maxed for the limits of the system itself (The Nintendo that is).

Need to Know Information:
(Let me clear this up for those who would ask, The PSP comes UNDERCLOCKED!! The first & most widely used Nintendo Emulator is Nester J (http://psp-news.dcemu.co.uk/nesterjpsp.shtml)

This Emulator was made by: PSP Wiki / Ruka

This Emulator gets updated Often & seems to sport the most Features. It runs games at Full Speed with the settings mentioned above & supports Full Screen Emulation. There don't seem to be any known game problems with this Emulator that I have found.

Its Options & Features include:
Processor Overclocking
Sound Quality Changes & Options
Graphics Sizes to include Width x2, Normal & Full Screen
Freeze States

Second we have NES for PSP (http://psp-news.dcemu.co.uk/nesforpsp.shtml)

This Emulator was made by: REi / PSP Wiki

This Emulator is Updated, just not as often as Nester J. I have yet to load it myself as I started out with NesterJ & loved it.

Third We have Famicontest (http://psp-news.dcemu.co.uk/famicontest.shtml) (Also known as InfoNES for PSP)

This Emulator was made by: PSP Wiki

This Emulator does not seem to be well known or updated at all since its release here on DCEMU.

Next We have the Sega Genesis Emulators (Including MegaDrive and Game Gear)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

First we have the popular PSP Genesis (http://www.dcemu.co.uk/vbulletin/showthread.php?p=33031#post33031)

This Emulator was created by: Sougen

This is one of the more popular Sega Genesis/MegaDrive Emulators. I can not say for sure its the best but it seems to be very fast, and compatible (even running some games at full speed using only the 222mhz setting). It does not sport all the features of the Nintendo and Super Nintendo Emulators (Zip File Support, Filters, Etc) But it def plays well, clearly and quickly. The Author has decided not to release further updates do to the Source Code and Emulator itself not being ready for release (Its still not complete). So after being told this violates GPL rules the Author chose to finish testing on his own. I personally can not wait for the next release of this Emulator! (The Author has decided to release some updates and so we have seen this EMU progress and continue to be the best Genesis EMU available)

Some Options Include:
Full Screen
CPU Overclocking to 333mhz
Full Sound Support
Auto SRAM Feature (Not at 100%)

Need to Know Information:
Make Sure that you Return to the ROMs list BEFORE Exiting as not doing so can cause your PSP to Shut Off sometimes.
Let me clear this up for those who would ask, The PSP comes UNDERCLOCKED!! at 222mhz. It is made to run at 333mhz but that drains the battery much faster and so Sony Underclocked the PSP's Processor to increase battery life. In all actuality you are not overclocking the processor or harming it, the CPU and all its components were made to run at 333mhz from the day it was made, but since Sony locked it at 222mhz until better batteries are available (And until Gran Turismo 4 comes to PSP) we have to manually turn it back up to the normal speed. So do not be concerned with using this option. However as the PSP EMU's progress you might find that you do not need to clock as high which will help get you better battery life (Or just buy the new battery).

Next we have the DGen Emulator (http://psp-news.dcemu.co.uk/dgenpsp.shtml)

This Emulator was made by: Syn-Z

This Emulator seems very solid. It is still in progress and being updated by the author! It will be a great addition to the community! It has good speed but the sound still needs some work, its alittle static ridden. However the displays and everything else are excellent! It does however need a Region selector as some games will not play on it. :(

Supported Features include:
Full Screen
Has Vsync w/ On/Off
PSG Emulation w/ On/Off
YM2616 Emulation w/ On/Off
CPU Overclocking to 333mhz

Need to Know Information:
See OVERCLOCKING information listed in PSP Genesis Up above!!!
No Region Selector so not all Roms play!

Work in Progress and Early Emulators
MegaDrive for PSP (http://psp-news.dcemu.co.uk/megadriveforpsp.shtml) This Emulator has not seen any updates lately but appears to have supported Full Screen! Hopefully we will see some updates to it here shortly!
This Emulator was created by: Osakana

Generator/PSP (http://psp-news.dcemu.co.uk/generator.shtml) This Emulator just seems to have stopped updates. There are no screenshots and it seems like this EMU may not be seeing any further updates.
This Emulator was created by: Hotoke / PSP Wiki

Next We have the Gameboy Advance, Gameboy Color and Game Boy Emulators
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Ok at this time Gameboy and Game Boy Color are Emulated together and Game Boy Advanced has its own Emulator. I am going to start with Game Boy Advanced and go down from there.

Need to Know Information:
Let me clear this up for those who would ask, The PSP comes UNDERCLOCKED!! at 222mhz. It is made to run at 333mhz but that drains the battery much faster and so Sony Underclocked the PSP's Processor to increase battery life. Game Boy Advanced Section

First we have Virtual Boy Advanced (VBA) Emulator for PSP (http://psp-news.dcemu.co.uk/vbapsp.shtml)

This Emulator was created by: PSP Wiki

This is the only Game Boy Advanced Emulator I know of. It currently is still being worked on but is updated and keeps making progress. It seems to play games although not at full speed yet. No compatability problems have been mentioned as of yet. It does support sound as well.

The full list of features are:

Overclocking CPU to 333mhz (Red Screen)
Auto Frame Skip
Sound with On/Off feature

Next We have the Rin Gameboy + Color Emulator (http://psp-news.dcemu.co.uk/gameboyemupsp.shtml)

This Emulator was created by: Mr. MIRAKICHI

The Rin Gameboy + Color Emulator seems to be the Best for the job. It handles every game I have thrown its way be it Super Gameboy, Gameboy or Gameboy Color. It has many features as well as Full Screen and Overclocking.

Very nice. I've got a bunch of remaining games to test on UO_SNES when I get home from work, so I'll be adding it to WikiGamers soon.

Also remember WikiGamers isn't just for SNES, anyone can add/start a list like the SNES one we currently have.

Has major sound issues, the sound starts to distort and ends up in a mess of nasty audio that hurts your ears to listen to.

Super Bomber 2 man works aswell with a frameskip at 2, transparency off, and cpu at 333mhz but has a weird bug where you cant progress to the next setting, ex. from choosing options for next vs. battle and then getting on to the battle. It looks like it freezes when the screen blacks out but if you enable the sound it'll go on. I just enable it till it loads and then turn off. It goes at a pretty smooth 30fps which is basically fullspeed at a frameskip of 2

hmm, ok I have not put that much into it. I actually ment to that along with Super Metroid and Chrono Trigger were big reasons I wanted the EMU. But I forgot I had Illusion of Gaia lol. I have been playing almost nothing but that.

I will list the sound issue with FF3 I hope its cleared soon, maybe 19 will correct it.

I'm new here and I'm a beginner in the PSP Emulation World.
I would apreciate some help from you guys. Where can I download those games I mentioned?
It would be nice if you posted the links to the games and to the applications needed, like the overclocking tool you mentioned.

Cheers.

umm what games? If ur asking for ROMs of games for the NES/SNES/GEN then I suggest using google looking for ROMs and thats all I can tell u.

On the EMU's click the links for each emu listed on the first page.
SEI tool can be found on the PSP News page.
Overclocking (or actually clocking the PSP to its full Original Speed) is done in the EMU Menu itself.

Ok I just checked the separation lines I had setup for Headers and saw that while they looked fine on my Resolution everyone running 1024x768 probably did not like it so I ahve changed it. Everyone with 1024x768 will see what it was intended to look like, everyone with beyond that will see the odd styling I choose to us lol.

I assume I have 1.5 firmware, just bought the US PSP. I had no trouble using SEI PSP Tool to put UO_SNES9x on my PSP, but when I run the EMU I can't see the roms I put in the same directory.

I'm supposed to just drop them in the same directory as the EMU, right? Not in the 'SAVE' directory. Do the file endings matter? Do they have to be particular ones? I'm trying to run a .swc or a .fig. I'm so frustrated >_<

(edit-I forgot to add that you guys are awesome! Thank you for all the helpful stuff, this thread was exactly what I was looking for.)

Cross
July 7th, 2005, 15:15
ok there should have been two directories. Make sure that you put the roms in the directory without the % sign. Another easy way to tell is the folder with the BIGGER EBOOT file is where your saves folder and ROMS should be.

I did have it all in the correct directory, the .swc and the .fig just don't work. Had to have .smc to get them to be recognised. Working fantastic now, showing it off to all my friends!

1.51 is a no go. 1.0 and 1.50 only.

Hm sorry I should have guess that when u said NT and XP (Granted unless its NT 4.0 they are basically the same....)

Anyway your doing exactly what it says in the read me, nothing different no other messages while installing etc?

Thats the only version of SEI. I have not heard from anyone with a problem with it yet... hmmm I need some more info,

1) Was your PSP Conntected and recognized?

2) The program is failing when trying to generate the file or when starting up?

3) There are no errors on install nor any other messages? (Aka Norton etc?)

4) Have you tried redownloading SEI? Maybe its a bad DL?

I recently started using NesterJ to emulate my NES games on my PSP....problem is that it doesn't work. It boots up fine, then allows me to select my game, but when I choose the game it goes to a black screen with a colored (usually grey) square in the center.

My PSP is version 1.50 and I've used Sesi tool to create and generate all my files on my system.

I run the SNES9x and DGen emulators both of which work great. Although my Vectorman Rom doesn't work at all on DGen, but Vectorman 2 does...weird.

Any thoughts on how to fix this.

Let me check what my games are formatted in o2.

All the URL's are in the main post, click the BLUE text on each EMU. Now you need tobe sure you have a 1.50 EMU, if its not 1.0 or 1.50 you can not play any homebrew.

You know when u play super mario world 2 yoshi's island on snes9x for PC u need to run it on force mode 2 in order for it to work. But i dont think all of the yoshi island roms are like that. Just some friendly advce you can not ask for roms or where to get them, fast way to get urself banned. All I can tell you is try google/yahoo.

On Force Mode 2, Unless you have tried it and it fails I would try it. MMX2-3 are C4 Emulation and Star Fox is FX Emulation which both work. If you have display problems move to the BL display drivers that come with UO.

Good Luck

Hey Cross, do you know how I can overclock the uoSnes9x ver y25 emulator? The games are running a little 'slow' (good examples: Mario World, Maximum Carnage & Death Return Of Superman). I've read posts on the board talking about ver y26, which I can't find, that supposedly improves the slowness. I just figured if you can overclock the other emulators...than maybe you can for this one too.

I don't want to overclock it to 333mhz if I don't have...I was thinking 266mhz would be a great improvement. I've read that 333mhz could damage the memory card/PSP themselves...

I'd appreciate any advice you can offer.

Cross
July 12th, 2005, 16:25
You should read about overclocking listed next to every EMU here, its not really Overclocking, the PSP comes made to run @ 333mhz. Sony clocked it down to improve battery life. You will not damage anything on the system because it is currently underclocked. Just look at the Need to know Info you will see the explanation as well. Your fine using 333mhz. I use it all the time.

However to change the speed in UO SNES push the Thumb Stick Left and the last option before the Rom's List shows the processor speed pushing left or right changes the speed setting.

I am playing FF3 and it seems to lag. i pushed the graphics up to 1.3 and when i go into the menu and then try to config, the screen goes black. if i take the graphics down to even 1.2, it works again but the game seems to always run a little slow. especially during battles.

anyways, is there a working MAME emulator?? and which emulator supports the metal slug games?? i love those and i just forgot which emulator runs them

Cross
July 15th, 2005, 18:47
There is a MAME EMU but from my inderstanding its limited. I have not gotten to it because Mega Man Power Battles does not play and thats all I have.

On FF3 and Zelda, I did not notice any static with y28, I did not try with y27. On FF3 I used Frameskip Auto and 3 and its fine, I do play with the graphics and sound but as u found out u can only go to 1.2 on graphics nd frankly I thouhgt it seemed to hinder it (moving the graphics) more then help so I just turned that off. Casper0878

i get annoyed by the same thing Casper0878.

If you have a 1.5 you are going to have to run the exploit again. once you do that you can simply replace the normal folders pbp and the % folders pbp with the other pbps in the directories of the same name.

... meaning you can keep your save states and what not... but i think it resets the game specific settings you may have already setup :/

Casper0878

Question #2:
I have bunch of roms on disk from about 4 years ago when I used to play NES and SNES games on my PC. Will these roms work with the various PSP emulators that are out there or do I have to look for later versions of these roms?

Guys, I figured it out. I had bought a new 1gb memory stick, and as Im new to all this, I didnt realize I had to format it. I stumbled upon the option on my psp and formatted it. From there everything worked like a charm! I was kind of dissapointed with the games coming out for psp, and was killing time with N4spd Underground and Hot Shots Golf. Now I dont care if I never get another PSP game again! NES and SNES rules! If anyone has a good Neo Geo emu, please PM me. Thanks again for all your help.

The best deals I've seen so far have been on ebay. You can get it for around $100-$110 including shipping. Everywhere else its going for $140 and up. I got an employee discount here in the Los Angeles area, because I know someone that works for Fry's electronics. Still cost me approx $112.

yeah, i won the bidding on one for $106 with shipping and everything, but the guys paypal didnt work and after speaking to a paypal rep they advised me not to pay him. that something fishy was going on. so i gotta keep looking. the high speed memory sticks cant be used to their full potential on a psp can they??

Don't forget about the PSP compatibility List:

PSP Compatibility Lists (http://www.berzerk.co.uk/psp-tracker)

Would it be possible for people to update their findings on the lists. Just click on the status icon for a game and select a status. It's as simple as that :)

Casper and friends,
Just to let you know, I bought a 1gb SanDisk Memory Stick Duo Pro from www.ebuyer.com (http://www.ebuyer.com/) for $98 after tax and shipping. Package came via USPS and arrived 3 days later! SanDisk even includes an adaptor that lets you use the Duo stick like the older, longer version of the memory stick. Useful if you have a camera or memory stick adaptor for the non-duo variety. Both work great!

Sounds like ebuyer.com is cheaper than eBay, and with a return policy, I trust it better, personally. Hope this helps!

Cross, I need your help. You seem to know what you're talking about...so here goes. I downloaded the SEI tool v0.5c and put it on my desktop. I also dl'd a SNES emu and put it on my desktop. I open the sei tool and connect my psp. It shows up as G drive. When I try to complete the instructions in the sei tool, it tells me "PSP drive not found" I am certain that my PSP is hooked up properly. I have gone to the usb option on the psp and made sure that the PSP is talking to the computer. Still "PSP drive not found"??? Any ideas on what might be the problem?

Question #2:
I have bunch of roms on disk from about 4 years ago when I used to play NES and SNES games on my PC. Will these roms work with the various PSP emulators that are out there or do I have to look for later versions of these roms?

I really appreciate your help.

Thanks
Nick

On question 1,make sure you connect the PSP BEFORE you open SEI tool. Let the PSP Be recognized by windows, etc then start it up and it should be there. (also make sure you know which drive it is by checking my computer.)

on question 2, you should not have a problem. Unless an EMU changed the format like DGEN tends to with Gen roms, the you should be fine with NES and SNES I was not aware of any that did and mine worked just fine, I have them all archived from 2003.

Ok... I have noticed that there is a working ROM list for PSPGenesis.
As for DGEN... just a description of the emulator.

If there is a certain post that would point me to a list... I would gladly appreciate the link to it.

If not... I will do some testing myself because I have noticed some great differences in PSPGenesis and DGEN.

Basicly PSPGenesis runs most everything with good speed and ok sound... no full screen or zip support.

DGEN... lots of problems... lots of sound problems. Some roms freeze in the middle of play.

The problem I see here is that most people are overlooking this stuff. They just say, "ah.. its a ok emulator.. does fullscreen... blah." Until I can find some better detail on DGEN... I will be doing my own testing and will be glad to post it on this thread.

DGen just is not as popular in my mind I stick with PSPGen. Hints why there is no list plus your the first one to request it. I am actually removing the Oficcal SNES 9x List as it has not been updated. However I think the new SNES EMU may be listed I have not decided.

I am also trying to review the Mame and RIN Emulators but again if they do not get updates I am not giving them a whole lot of atten.

If you want a Gen list then we can work on that however they take up a lot of space so I am considering changing the file to a Spreadsheet and making it a picture included or a link to a pic. I will decided when I finish coping everything to the laptop and completely redoing it again after the HD crash I went through with the laptop.

Now I want to add that the New SNES EMU is really proving to be an all out amazment, faster in a lot of areas but not all.

Back to the PSP Gen EMu it may not be full screen but its def the higher of the two EMU's at this point. DGEN has some nice features (I thought PSPGen had full screen now?) I have yet to run PSPGen since i DL'd the Update I have been busy with other EMU's. I will check back into that. Frankly though as you can see in almost 13 pages there has been no real requests for DGEN. If you have a list of roms that DO NOT WORK on DGEN but work on PSP GEN or Visa Versa just send them to me. I will be happy to add them, or post it here and I will put it up front.

However, like i said I had a whole change and update that was lost for this thread, when I finish redoing it tomorrow hopefully I will add things at that time, post it and I should have it added.

Also....seeing Fight Club for the first time really plays games with your head. LOL

Now if you want me to list the faults of EMU's.. well again theres two reasons I did not. One I do not want to test every damn release esp if the EMU is not one I am currenlty using or feel is where I want to be. So by listing problems I have to check them...every release, plus these coders know the problems they do not need them put in new comers faces, let them decided let them talk to the community, let them make contributions and add input. (Although this also leads to some cases where they should have used the Search Button *Sigh* you can never win) But frankly, these codes work hard and I am not going to post problems I feel with the EMU's that are present. They hear them from those who want them changed, those who can not do it, and those who just want the thing to work. Frankly I think thats enough, no more then enough.

Props to the guy(if it was just one) who wrote this, it's very helpful!!

I know running Emu's at 333mhz doesn't hurt the PSP, but it does effect Battery life, correct? So then that would make a difference between running an Emu at say 270 as opposed to 333 if there is no difference cosmetically.

thanks.

Im no psp guru, but as far as I know the only thing that will be affected by the boost in the clockrate is battery life. many things can run fairly well at 266mhz now if your worried about it, but i think the extra juice used for 333 is nessicary.

Hello everybody.
I ran into a proplem with running snes roms on the psp and I tried looking for an answer by reading most of the 13 pages of stuff posted on this topic and a few other topics. I couldn't find a solution, so I decided to post something.

I'm using SNES9xTYL, all the roms I tried loaded and ran, except for one single common problem shared by all of them. It lags. It's a consistent lag, even when nothing but a logo is popping up on the screen it lags at the same rate. I tried about 7-8 roms (ff6, turtles in time, mega man x, tales of phantasia, tetris attack, and others). I thought maybe I had to optimized the settings, so I tried all sorts of combination, like raising/lowering the clock speed, raising/lowering frame skip.

Anyways, anyone have any ideas what the problem is? or can direct me to the solution? thanks.

Hehe thats just the emulator dude. Snes emulators have gone a long way on the PSP since the first. But the emulation still has its issues. Its still playable but more work will be needed to get them near perfect. The only real emulators running near perfect are NesterJ and Rin.

Well witht he clock set to 333mhz and a frameskip of 1 or autoskip, I get 90% of games running perfect. And worse case is a frameskip of 2.

There are a few exceptions but 99% of snes games play fantastic on SNES TYL.

Right, well it's obvious that I don't have the skills to work out how to quote on a forum. That said, I want to raise the point that people like you, besides being flamebait are the sole reason for natural selection.

I want to make it clear that I don't post on forums, you made me get an account just to tell you off and that makes me angry...you wouldn't like me when I'm angry...rar!

Stupid quotes aside, don't waste peoples time with redundant questions because you're too lazy to bother reading something. I have been in the emulation scene since 1997, and I think I have probably fewer than 10 forum posts in various places. You should only ask questions if you really can't find the info. They don't make Newb FAQs for nothing. Chances are someone has asked the same question b4 you, so open your eyes, dick.

You're not a Fat American are you?

So it'd be fair to say that asking about firmware 2.0 emulators will instigate a degree of head-banging? Fair enough. People should have worked that out. But I think a more important question, especially with recent discoveries, is are emulators being developed that will work in 2.0?

I'm still tryin to decide whether to use the firmware upgrade disc that was bundled with the PSP – I'd like to try the web browser, but at the same time I'd like to run hacked stuff. Will 2.0 be beaten? Soon?

Cross
October 1st, 2005, 07:08
Actually in your case no. Mainly because of this new info: (Plus I addressed the ROM issue many times before in this thread already as well as the other topic which both are in the VERY FIRST POST TO!!)

It seems 2.0 has been beaten with a downgraded that has gotten public review in the news. So its offical 2.0 may ot be running Homebrew but if you look around here at DCEMU you can find that a Downgrader has been made and you can go back and forth... I am just not eager enough to upgrade to 2.00 to use it lol.

As for EMU's for 2.00.. well I am not sure but I honestly think the best way around all this is a chip will eventually be developed. Until then I think the downgrade will be the way to do things for now until 2.00 is completely figured out (There has been progress made just for now as I said the DG seems to be the only working option)

To solve the Gta problem cant you just put overflow.tif and 1.5 updater on your 32mb stick and then when you want roms pop out your extra stick (if you have one) and downgrade.

P.S. you have to be near a charger to do this.

Hi... sorry if this has been anwered........

I'm guessing that emulators will only work on a PSP V 1.5 or lower? What if I buy one with a higher version (because all others are nearly sold out) can I downgrade it so I can play my emulators?

Everytime you get a new UMD doesn't it upgrade the PSP to the version required for it? So can you downgrade a PSP that was a higher version than 1.5 when it was bought?

OK, I know this may perhaps make somebody die from banging their head, but is it possible to do a virus scan on PSP software to make sure that it is free from PSP viruses? I have downloaded a few PSP apps from sites I don't 100% trust, and I want to be sure that they won't brick my shiny new PSP - almost new, anyway (eBay). Does anyone know of an app to do this? Also, there seems to be a layering problem, during battle the damage done is drawn under the unit, and in many menus I can't read anything. Such as shops and the first part of the character selection menu. I also can't see the name I'm entering for a character.

I don't have these problems with uo_SNES9X_0.02y32, Although I do have to set the frame skip kind of high during battles or it runs rather slow. I also have it clocked at 333mhz.

Mario Kart is worse, I need to change the gfx settings to even be able to se anything but my place and the scenery. Not to mention neither plays it at a playable speed unless sound is off.

Awesome to see you back at work on the guide, keep it up. This guide was the reason our forums got a guide section. It was the first guide and first sticky. :)

Its weird to think I had such an impact writing the info I found and sharing it... wow LOL. Thanks.

But I just can not do as many things as I want to it seems and Emulation and games in general have still just stacked up. Its funny I still make sure I buy every new release I want but they just collect dust. Many I have not even started but I just have to have them for my collection.

Maybe when my personal business finally takes off and I can pay others to do the work I can play but until then its full time work... and every once in a while in a waiting room some PSP or DS Action :p

Anyway I should try and update this with new releases and info. I will see what I can do in the next week or so. I have some time to myself I hope. lol

*Just shakes head* I did not upgrade to 2.0. I sold my PSP for lack of games. I finally got a new one that was a version 2.5 and found 2 good games so far.

I just did not see the point of only owning a system that has a few good games and went for my DS. It does what I need, and I take it and now my psp everywhere along with my laptop so I have all my EMU's.

*shrug* I just felt 250 for an emulator was not what I wanted in a system, I wanted games that I enjoy and emulation. With the 3.0 upgrade I will have just what I want, all my ff and chrono and lunar games with me 100% of the time.

Then you put the two folders for whatever your emulator is called (Daedalus and Daedalus%) and put them in GAME. I used Daedalus as an example. ;)

Ok, then put the two folders inside GAME (snes9x003a and snes9x003a%). I've never heard of it. You know that snes9xTYL is the best right?

And what is inside that folder? Just an eboot and some files? If that's the case, you'll need to KXPloit it, which I'll explain once you answer.

I would just dowload snes9xTYL after all. It's the fastest for 1.5 users. Here's a hotlink:
