Well......

Personally I prefer English no not because I live here but because its about life look at Dizzee Rascal his songs are about his life. But American rappers I think are just whack and the English Grime/Rap scene is far better

Hip Hop I believe is the early form which later became Rap, I could be wrong but artists like Run DMC were the first Hip Hop artists which I think in this day and age could be considered Rappers?

In my opinion, the old Hip Hop (aka Th golden Age of Hip Hop) is a lot better than all the shit that appeared later. Run DMC rocks!

Agreed, the stuff today is crap, and Run DMC were ok...

...Especially with the track "Walk This Way" which either they were featured or Aerosmith was featured, but that was a cool song! :p

English rappers? lol, never heard of them.

BTW, there are alot of hip hop music these days that are discriminating to female. But, there are still plenty of great hip hop artist's. And I dont really remmember that much songs about raping, killing molesting. They usually rap about cars money and ladies, not killing.

xg917
September 13th, 2007, 01:54
well t-pain is t-pain, u cant change that. compare 50 cent to kanye west for example. 50 talks about money and cars and shit like that, mean while kanye talks about real shit thats going on in life like real rappers should. thats why people think hip hop is dead because people arent talking about the reality in life, they talking about how icy their rims or how expencive their clothes are. but i dont think hip hop is dead, i just think its hit a new era. styles of clothing is changing too. for example to partial rock style (skull belt buckles, tighter jeans that arent as baggy, a chain that comes out of your pocket and u hook on to your jeans, smaller shirts) <- certain rappers wear that type of stuff and it actually looks good on occasions.

kcajblue
September 13th, 2007, 02:09
i have no idea as to why rappers are trying to be like rockers now.

it annoyed me when they started doing that.

xg917
September 13th, 2007, 02:17
not trying to be like rockers. if so then they are making rockers look bad :p cuz the clothes look better on them than on real rockers. but yea idk, i would dress like that SOMETIMES if i had the money to get clothes, now im broke :(

if u heard the song rock man by dj unk, it seems like they are making fun of how rockers act, like head banging and sticking their tounges out like idiots
i think those types of songs are killing hip hop badly.

hip hop in the terms of radio/mainstream is dead, kanye west has alright songs but he takes his fame/popularity too serious like this cover where the poses as jesus http://www.breitbart.com/article.php?id=D8FB8FI00&show_article=1&image=large
im not religious but this is taking it a bit too far...

as for hip hop/rap and what it use to be, its all in the underground indie scene

xg917
September 13th, 2007, 02:21
fine then, compair 50 cent to common or nas. there you go! big difference in their lyrics. btw kanye isnt as into the religious scene as he was back in the day :/

Theres a lot of gun crimes, and most of it is because people imitate their favorite rap artists who go around pretending to be gangsters and owning guns for the factor of thinking that guns are "cool" and that people will respect them cause they have guns and such.

305 represent!

Anyways, aside from listening to obligatory Pitbull, most all the hip-hop and rap I listen to has little to do with bitches, fo-fos, or spinnurz.

The Roots and Blackalicious are my favorite American groups:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b6VNmsp1vL8

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BnevMn60Unk

The Roots are most known for their amazing live sound and flow. I've seen them before and it was unforgettable, 10+ minute medleys and whatnot.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i-dJ6xbrWHQ

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nIJ-aTeya5E
If you look for any of their stuff I reccomend Rhythm Sticks and Sky is Falling.

Then there's all the great rap that is neither: Orishas(Cuban), Infinite Mass(Sweedish), Hilltop Hoods(Australian), etc

edit:
America has no Mc's what so ever meaning you are all rap

There is seriously no contest when it comes to rapping. American rap it what it is. If you like english rap, then you do. But if you would put an american rapper and an English rapper in a ring, the americans would win.

And even though you say american rap lyrics is all bullshit talk these days, then so what? It sells doesnt it.

Nas, tupac, B.I.G, 50 Cent, Eminem, Snoop dogg, r.kelly, rick ross, lil wayne, birdman, dj khaled, andre 3000, big boi, the game, young joc, young buck, akon, jay z, diddy the list will go on.

No. Lil' Wayne releases a lot opf music. it's good but not the greatest. So he is has alot. It's mainly Quantity over Quality. If you want quality listen to ALL NaS' cds. Except I Am, it sucked. Nas is considered one of the greatest God MCs. Especailly after his debut album Illmatic released in 94 and his album Stillmatic released in 01.

Illmatic - 1994
It Was Written - 1996
I Am (Bootlegged unfinished cd) - 1998
NaStradamus - 1999
Stillmatic - 2001
God's Son - 2002
The Lost Tapes - 2002
Street Disciple - 2004
Hip Hop is Dead - 2006
Untitled WIP - 2007

Every single one of them are good enough to listen to first song to last. (Except I Am... for obvious reasons.)

xg917
September 16th, 2007, 16:15
wat i dont like about nas is that he thinks hip hop is dead. rappers could talk about what ever they want and nas cant control that but he obviously thinks he can make this change because hes the "Hip hop God"

It depends on your definition of genres. Some people see rap as purely a sub-genre of hip-hop, and hip-hop is tied extremely closely to R&B.

LilSwish722
September 17th, 2007, 23:01

Have you EVER listened to the GOOD american stuff. Like the stuff I've been mentioning this whole time. Nas mainly.

I agree. All you guys mention is how bad the american rap lyrics are. You dont realise that there are plenty of good rappers in the states. I am sure that american rap is much better than english rap. There might be a few english rappers that are better than some of the americans, but the majority is very vast. There is too much american rappers that will that is school the english.

Im sure english people know about these great american rappers. But how about america. Do they actually show english rappers? (I doubt it)

Just because there are a few very good english rappers, doesnt mean that english are better. There is completely no comparison. But if you still think that english rappers are better, then go ahead. But if you were trapped in a room with only american rap to listen to, you would find out why american rap is so much better.

(I bet that most of the people who voted english on the poll dont have a clue what rap is. They only voted because they are english. The majority of this site is english anyways)

Oh, I just discovered a long lost gem of mine. Little Brother. go to youtube and search for Little Brother. Play the first video (should be Lovin It) it's incredible and BET actually BANNED it because "it's too smart for the viewers"

BET is racist, they only show black people. I remember when I was in Central America and I looked at BET a few times and wondered where the white people were, even the commercials are all black people! lol

its not racist. Racist shows your feelings through actions and words. Has BET done anything to the white community? No.

Thats what BET is. Black Entertainment Television.

Racist to the fact they won't show white people, for example it's like me having a T.V. show and I won't let you on it cause your maroon and the people on my show are all lilac.

I used to only listen to US stuff, but it started to get shit, fast. A good example of what im saying, that everyone here can follow, is eminem. First album, excellent, second album good, third album 2 or 3 good songs, fourth album complete and utter bollocks, fith album **** off mate i'll keep my 10 notes thanks! All the other us artists seemed to go that way too.

I didnt have any UK stuff really then (except freestylers but thats not technically hip hop), i bought a Mark B and Blade album because DJ Mr Thing was on there, and from then on my Uk collection went up, and US went down.

If I going US now i will mainly go old skool, and i occainsionly listen to J5, Copperpot, Dilated, Profound, Cut Chemist, DJ Shadow, stuff like that. Ive heard some Nas stuff, time ago, i dont own any Nas CDs so obviously I wasnt impressed.

Have YOU ever heard any decent UK shit, like the stuff ive been mentioning? The stuff in the chart is shit, buy the Slipperz mixtape, you wont be disappointed.

fat joe is puertorican and cuban so he isnt white. but eminem was actually a good white rapper. paul wall was on BET as well. so no bet isnt a racist channel but it was specificly created for black entertainment. and rocsi (the host of 106 & park) isnt white either, shes hondurian. im venezuelan. BET should be hispanic & black entertainment :p

Most rappers in America are the same. I like some lesser known rappers like Tech N9ne and some old school rap/hip hop. I have no clue what rap is like in the UK, so I can't make a preference.

Tech N9ne is good. And that beat to the Lovin' It music video was a 9th Wonder beat. He was the official producer for Little Brother. Yes, they did ban it because it was too intelligent. Not because a white guy was rapping in it (although you don't hear much from Scudda) I only listen to older stuff too. Except the new Kanye cd. It's just great all the way around (disappointed with Lil' Wayne on Barry Bonds though). I got all kinds of good hip-hop. My iPod is filled with it. I usually listen to Nas, Kanye, and Lupe Fiasco the most. Anybody want some GOOD hip hop, PM me.

White is a skin color, not a nationality. My family is cuban and we're all white.

Really? I thought it was really disappointing, his worst album for sure. The singles are catchy but it doesn't have the songs, the storyline or the skits the old stuff had, just club tracks.
