What do you play with for Frets On Fire?

Do USB-adapted Guitar Hero controllers work?

yea they do work on the pc not sure if on the dc, just download the official microsoft controller plugin and configure the guitar with the frets on fire settings. its no guitar hero but it comes close. frets on fire would be a pretty cool port on the dc

I'm going to have to look into it then.

My PS2 is out of commission and I need to get my GH fix.

It sure would be awesome!

would there be a chance of frets on fire, or other guitar game, being ported to dreamcast? I dont know any coding at all so would any1 here be able to?

This would be pretty incredible even if its with a normal Dreamcast controller.

This would be awesome for Dreamcast. I Have this for My XP PC. This would work too i think *except for Editing Songs. * All it needs is an Official\3rd Party Dreamcast Keyboards and a CD Rom Packed with Guitar Action

Not gonna happen. The entire game's written in Python.

Unless it's completely rewritten, but who wants to do that?

I've been learning python, but thats no help because I dont know c/c++.

Python's Just a scripting language. FoF uses straight python for File I/O and stuff. It's made with SDL\SDL_TTF\SDL_Mixer (TTF needs Freetype, mixer needs a ton of things)

Just Port to KOS! That works.

Save Scores to song drive (port to KOS) Save Scores to VMU - its less than 1 block!

Read Scores from Songs Directory > Port to KOS and have it ask for a swap CD (like if you made a compilation of Songs on a PC\MAC Version of FoF :) check the Disc and Continue!

I'd like to do this, but i'm not familar enough with python and it's syntax

I though it'd be a good idea, but I don't know any coding stuff so I figured I'd post it here.

Well, whether Python converts over completely to something close to C++ or not, perhaps the main gist (or algorithm) of what it does in Python is pretty convertable.. anyone still interested? I might offer some C++ help to anyone if interest is still there.. ;)

i think that porting guitarfun itīs a better idea. Itīs made in C/SDL and the main platform is PS2 (later was ported to win32).

http://www.elotrolado.net/hilo_-JUEGO--Guitarfun-PC-2-0--homebrew-_948414

also is fully compatible with fof songs!!!

yes! this game is pretty good, supports the Frets on Fire songs, works in PS2, Win32 and a Linux port is in the way. My brother and i take a look on the source and seems that uses an ogg library that is ported (dcastle uses it) for DC.

some screens:

the game donīt looks too good, specially the band (seems a christian rock band), but the guitar fret effect itīs pretty good and the gameplay is also very good.

I asked the author nicely if it was possible for a port to the DC. Hopefully I get a response :D

Both games require to much ram and the Dreamcast only uses 16mb.

I'm afraid I can't help much with this, but I'll try my best. Frets on Fire doesn't work very well with old computers (5 or more years old, maybe even less), at least not on the computers I've tried, and when I play it on my laptop, it lags badly unless my laptop is plugged into a power source.
