PacManFan has released the first version of his PSX/PSOne emulator for the PSP, heres what the coder said:

For all the people who have been asking, here's the first demo test release of PSPSOne. This one is hard-coded to run the pdx-dlcm.psx demo, but I've included a few other psx files as well. It runs at about .5 fps @ 222mhz, The emulation is really slow at this point, I'm still working on getting my recompiler to function properly (or at all). Once the recompiler is working, I expect to see a huge jump in performance. After that, I'll replace the GPU software rendering with the GE calls to hardware blit 2d triangles.

You'll need to run the KXploit tool on this. The directory must be PSPSONE, Also, you'll need to put in the scph1001.bin playstion bios into the /bios subdirectory for this to work.

Speaking of which, what's the best/easiest/quickest way to extract an iso from my PS1 games?

Jeisu

I'd say it, but I think it'd not comply with this site's rules unless wraggster would allow it, i'd say a name. ;x

What rip format does it use.
Iso, Bin/cue, cdd, tao, dao?
Would be nice to know. Does it support the files zipped or rared?

Umm guys. I dont think this suports comercial games still. He is still trying to rewrite the dynamic interpreter for the psp mips cpu. It will probably be a while before he gets games running on it (at least a good 2-4 weeks minimum).

yes, i was about to ask what the hell everyone thought they were doing...

use alcohol 120% (google it) to make iso's. dont ask for further instructions please or il take a soldering iron to your face.

This is awsome how fast this emulator is being built up. It brings up a lot of problems though.

- getting a PS1 ISO is a challenge (creating an image of my real games).

-PS1 games take so much space. I recently ripped my copy of Resident Evil: Directors Cut and the .img file took a huge 670 MB.

if you know what your doing, you can chop down content to make games tiny. there are programs to do it... but its not that hard to do on your own.

once again making iso's, bin & cue files, etc is very very easy with alcohol 120%.

GOOGLE ALCOHOL 120% but it is up to you to learn how to use it... and if you cant... well... your lost.

Making games tiny isnt that easy.

You can convert all the sound down to 96kbps at 22mhz
You can remove all video or convert them.

Its impossable to down size textures unless your a hacker and have advance tools though.

its true that it isnt THAT easy... but dont let that scare you. also concidering that movies are usually the largest bit of the cd anyways you can easily remove or modify them.

On a psp screen you can really downsample videos cause they wont be playing fullscreen.

I know this site doesnt really like warez talk but i figure we can talk about patches here. I'd really like the FF7 one disk patch if there are still links for it. Because if you sue the debug room you notice the whole games on one disk but for movies. So if you make dummy files for all the movies and hack the disk change screens you can play on one disk.

with alchohal ii still cant make it any smaller than like 700 mb dam to bad

CannedSoup
July 19th, 2005, 04:44
most psx games are like 400-600 mb. No psx game is over 650 per disk since psx game use 650mb disk and not 700mb disk.

Downsizing huh?
Sounds too much like DC piracy... watch tons of people start asking for patches of the games or downsized .isos.

For every one of those people there will probably be someone like me who has a huge PS1 back catalog and would love to be able to extract an iso small enough to not fill my memory stick. I wouldn't go assuming we're all pirates.

I own all my games. their is nothing warezy about doing that. Some people (quzar) believe that it isnt legal to modify the original package or place it on a differant type of media.. That being the case this would be totally illegal... however I dont much care, and unless wraggster or another mod says somthing about it I will assume that it is not agains to rules to discuss.

Alcohol 120% is not used to shrink iso's.. its just a cd image creation tool. To shrink stuff.. well... figure it out on your own you bum. :p

also canned.. i believe that FF8 disk 1 2 and 3 were actually 800 mb some how... I recall that because I was confused when I put that in my cdrom for the first time..

It's not that I believe it, it's that it's part of the DMCA. It's as illegal to distribute it as it is a plain ol copied thing. It's fine and dandy to modify something of your own and copy it to whatever you want. The only place I have made an argument to the contrary was for the NeoGeoCD emulator, and that wasn't a question of the legality of making files (iso+mp3) it was regarding the license that the author of the original emulator wrote which stipulated not distributing games and the emulator in the same media. I have nothing against copying your own things at all, and consider myself a "fair use" activist (I wrote my senior thesis on the subject).

The only thing that matters is that if something like that happens, it won't be right to answer questions on these forums that start like this "I downloaded blah game" because it's obvious piracy. Yes, it is just as easy for someone to say "I cant get blah game to run" but the latter of the two ways denies any explicit knowledge of illegal activity on our part, which is one of the reasons the Dreamcast homebrew/emulation scene is held in such high regard by sega. and yes, i know this is the psp section, but as long as it is on the same page, linked to and everything else, it needs to be held to the same standards, lest the dreamcast portion be tainted.

You can change to response time and visual quality also.

Hit the PSP home button then Settings > Communication Settings > Response Speed or Image Quality.

For some reason my my response speed was defaulted to -2 which was unplayable for action games I now how it set for +2 and I also bumped up the visual quality and everything looks and plays fine.
