House of the Dead on Wii - first screens

Sega has confirmed last week's rumours that old House of the Dead games will be coming to the Wii.

The second and third instalments of the zombie shooter will indeed be bundled together and released on Wii next spring. A perfect excuse to pick up the Wii Zapper then, which will be in the shops bundled with Link's Crossbow Training before the year's out.

Arcade and Time Attack modes will both be available, says Sega, along with single-player and co-operative antics. It'll be interesting to see if the earlier game is an Dreamcast port or straight from the arcade.

Sega's also bringing its current arcade shooter Ghost Squad to Wii.


"The House of the Dead franchise has been revamped for today's gamer looking for fast-paced shooting action on the Wii" commented Sega marketing man Gary Knight in the press release. "Utilising the new Wii Zapper, the player can get the renowned light gun experience in their own home."

After a quiet few years it looks like we're finally in the middle of a lightgun revival.

I loved number 2 on the Dreamcast, is it me or is at least one of those screenshots from the original HOTD? It'd be awesome if it was a trilogy of games :)

Ahh, graphics needs improvement. Ive never played the game, but I will look into this in the future.

I'd like to see Typing of the Dead 1 and 2 come to Wii. They're versions of House of the Dead 2 and 3 where instead of shooting with a light gun, you type the words that appear over the zombies. It's VERY fun if you know how to type.

There isn't a need to update the graphics. I think it should be as close to the original as possible. We don't need better graphics to enjoy the game.

Hence the whole point of the Wii. I pulled out my Japanese Dreamcast and lightgun and rocked out some HoTD2. I don't think it needs a face lift. Dreamcast had some nice looking games. Even better than ps2 in some respects. It couldn't push as many polys but at least it could do Anti Aliasing and had more texture memory. Thanks to the PowerVR chip. The shots from the original arcade do look like an upgrade in graphics to me. Anways screenshots always look worse than if you're actually seeing the game in motion. I hope this is all 3. I've always wanted to play number 3 but never saw it in the arcade. I also never owned an XBOX. Maybe I can track it down for PC.
