Nintendo says there is "absolutely no truth" behind reports that it could be feeding media with stories to accentuate hype about the demand for its sold-out Wii console.

Speculation arose when a report regarding families paying over the odds for the highly sought-after console appeared in identical form in two totally different UK newspapers.

This was picked up by -BEEP-, who suggested Nintendo could have "fed" both publications the report to boost Wii demand hype.

Nintendo told us: "There is absolutely no truth whatsoever in what they have written, it is totally unsubstantiated and merely rumour they are reporting as fact."

A seemingly peeved Nintendo went on to state: "We are certainly NOT distributing any press release to feed media with demand stories - we never have."

There are various news pool sources from which newspapers can take stories for publication. This story could have come from one of those, which would explain the identical wording.

If Ninty could make more Wii's they'd sell more. They arent in a position to need to do that.

nintendo never had any problems shifting their previous consoles... they didn;t have any long term ds shortages either ('cept for the pink one... but who has that?)
