This tells you how to make the memory stick needed:
http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/552549

Now for the battery:

"1)Take your battery and open it using a knife or exacto knife
2)look on the main board for the display "ICO4" or "CO4" (depending on your battery)
3)Now, take a needle or something like that and remove pin #5
here is a diagram: (NOTE: you can find pin #5 easily when the ICO4 or CO4 display is facing you!!!!)
__ (pin 4) __ (pin 8)
__ (pin 3) __ (pin 7)
__ (pin 2) __ (pin 6)
__ (pin 1) __ (pin 5)
4)After that, put your battery back together.

Testing your battery:
---------------------
Your will know if you successfully made your battery when:
1)you inert the battery and the green power LED comes on
if it doesnt come on, you did not make it correctly!"

After that is done, put in your memory stick first, then put in your battery. It should automatically turn on, and nothing should come up on the screen, but the memory stick will flash. Plug in your PSP and make sure it has a good amout of power. Press X and the memory stick should flash some more. Just wait. It is installing the custom firmware. After it stops, restart your PSP and you'll be on custom firmware!

You do know that the hard mod is hard to reverse and usually once hardmodded its only good as pandora you could try and fit some sort of switch but if you have the heat on the battery for too long it can explode and if your not to steady and short the leg next to one your cutting it can also explode, I recommend getting a mate with a homebrewed psp to convert battery and it will have to be a battery from a fat psp cos slims wont convert, If you dont have a mate with one you could buy the datel tool battery they cost about £12.99.

Also to install custom firmware to slim psp you have to use despetar cementario V3 not normal pandora as the slim is not compatible with 1.50firmware or the 1.50 kernel. So as for your emu's you will have to find ones that run with the 3.71kernel.

what if you use a toothpick or something nonmetal to remove the leg. are you still risking shorting the battery?
