I used a noob installer from a p2p(I should have know better) to up my 3.71-4 to 3.90-2. Seems pretty stable but MP3 will not play, photo will not play and vids don't run. I tried re formatting flash, re formatting stick and no luck. I can listen to MP3 using IR Shell but I would like to launch from XMB. I also installed the fatsmod and still no luck. Not a huge issue considering homebrew is fine, Just curious.

This is weird, I have never heard of a problem like this.
My suggestion is that you downgrade and upgrade back to your firmware.

Will I have to use a Pandoras Battery or is there a "soft" downgrade?

You wont need to use a Pandoras battery, there is a soft downgrader somewhere, i used it myself once. just google for it and you will be able to find it.

Hey hi.

I have the exact same problem. My PSP does not find mp3, video or image files, using firmware 3.90 m33-2.

I upload them in various folders, and still no luck. Some said it was because weird names on files, others that now it uses the folder "/PSP/MUSIC", etc.

Not our problem, ours goes a bit deeper I think.

I've also started getting these problems. Running 3.90 M33 v2.

MP3 and video were previously working and now show as there not being any files there. Games can be launched from the memory stick still.

I've formatted the memory stick and put them back where they were, reset to factory settings etc. but still no luck.

make sure that all the files in the write folders
PSP wont pick up anything but audio files in the music folder
same for the other file types as well

This is the paths for all the files:
For Homebrew: X:\\PSP\Game or Game150 or Game 3xx
For Music: X:\\PSP\Music
For Video: X:\\MP_ROOT\anv something or X:\\Video
For Photo X:\\Photo
(X is the letter of your psp drive)

Still a problem use the soft downgrader to downgrade and upgrade back, it should work. Ill try to find the link for you guys!

Sorry, there isnt a soft downgrader for 3.90M33-2
(I have one that I made for TA-079 mobo's only)

I suggest the following:

0. Go back to your Original firmware, as has been suggested, and try upgrading again using DA's install packages (http://www.dark-alex.org/)

1. Reset Settings to Default using the XMB
System Settings > Restore Default Settings.

2. Toggle F1 in the XMB and delete the "config.se" file.
This can be done from the M33 menu in the XMB
and the Recovery Menu.

3. Go into the Recovery Menu.
Cool Boot > Hold Right Trigger
Advanced > Format flash1 and Reset default settings.

4. Use Chilly Willy's KeyCleaner (http://forums.exophase.com/showthread.php?t=1238)
This should help fix any Damaged ID Storage keys you might have.
Storage Volumes are identified by keys that are unique to your PSP.
A storage volume is any interface your PSP uses to get get or send information.
USB, UMD, PHoto's, Movies, IR, Games and so on...

5. Buy a Datel Tool Battery.
Restore your PSP back to 1.5.
That should format the NAND back to a stable state.
Going up strait to 3.80M33 using Despertar del Cementerio 4 (http://www.dark-alex.org/) should also fix any broken NAND partition and formating problems.

Just to clear things up for a few people, in my case at least it's definitely nothing to do with the files being in the wrong folders, it was working fine last week and nothing has been touched.

The problem may be similar but could have a different cause.
The problem you are having could be caused by:

1. All that I listed above.
2. Counterfeit Memory card.
3. Memory card going bad.
4. PSP card reader going bad.
5. Not using the 3.71 fatfsmod patch.
I have a 2GB ms that reads sometimes and then fails on 3.90M33-2 until I applied the fatfsmod patch.
6. Card not seated properly.
Eject and then firmly but gently reinsert the ms.

Is your memory card formatted at FAT or FAT32

What size is Memory card are you having problems with?

Are you have the same problem with other memory cards?

Is it a Lexar memory card?

Just an update, decided to re-flash to 3.80m33 then update to 3.90 m33-3 and it's working fine.

Decided to get a datel tool battery aswell and I can highly recommend them, great if you only have access to the newer slims.

yeah, you should only get your firmwares from dark-alex.org or the network update
