Hi all, the recent problems with the CMS have pretty much prompted me to act, that and the fact that google penalises any site with what they call duplicate content, so much so that we have majorly lost out in their Panda Updates.

From now on we are starting to condense all our subdomain sites into one mega site at www.dcemu.com the forums will always be at http://www.dcemu.co.uk/vbulletin/forum.php, one by one all sites bar Chuis site will be moving, dont worry though you still be able to find everything as you can now itll all be under a different address thats all.

Also with moving everything we are going to seperate the discussion forums from the news forums, that way never again will you have to put up with newsposts in the middle of discussions, im going to drastically prune the amount of forums we have too, that will be done by me only. In the end we will have a much more slimline DCEmu and one that can move us forward.

From now on the CMS and the Blog will not be updated, check out www.dcemu.com for all our news.

Thanks for your time

Well known 3DS Hackers Yellows8 & Neimod have now breached the security of the 3DS and gotten into full Kernal Mode access (arm9 & arm11). The exploit is on an Unmodified Nintendo 3DS via a Game Exploit on an unknown Card Game (although shouldnt be too hard to find out which. As of yet the exploit though unreleased is working perfectly. As you can see via the screenshot below

Heres the full irc log:

[07:51:56] <@neimod> full control of the 3ds in kernel mode (arm9 & arm11) from an unmodified 3ds :]
[07:53:03] <EdTheNerd> HHNNNNGGGGG
[07:53:05] <@neimod> the sky is the limit!
[07:53:17] <EdTheNerd> Gib romz plox
[07:53:50] <@neimod> in theory it's possible
[07:53:52] <EdTheNerd> Now then, make it do somethig cool, while displaying GBA TEMP BLOWS somewhere on the screen
[07:54:04] <EdTheNerd> Then enjoy the show
[07:54:36] <EdTheNerd> "neimod: in theory it's possible"
[07:55:02] <EdTheNerd> T-10 seconds before gbatemp quotes that and pisses itself like an excited dog
[07:55:59] <jse> nice work neimod
[07:56:02] <jse> congrats
[07:57:34] <@neimod> unfortunately, we are elitist bastards who never share anything, so kiss that warez loader goodbye
[07:58:01] <EdTheNerd> So not to try to pry to much info here, but is this something you need a specific game/app for?
[07:58:31] <EdTheNerd> Should i by buying all of the eshop now?
[07:58:35] <@neimod> it's based on a specific card-based game
[07:58:39] <EdTheNerd> Nice
[07:58:58] <EdTheNerd> How patchable would you say this is?
[07:59:06] <@neimod> very easily
[07:59:12] <EdTheNerd>
[07:59:41] <EdTheNerd> Still, amazeing work as always
[07:59:46] <EdTheNerd> Congrats!
[08:00:10] <@yellows8> SD version can be used too but ofc one has to run code first for that.
[08:00:19] <EdTheNerd> Now take careof that pesky region lock!
[08:00:33] <EdTheNerd> Could such a thing be posible with this now?
[08:01:55] <@neimod> yes, with full kernel control anything is possible

Makes for a very interesting year ahead

                 * Secret of Mana menu text (narrower tiles) are now readable.
* Reimplemented NDSSFC Display Mode 4 as an anti-aliased whole-screen mode. Performance-wise this is not really a problem, because most SNES screens have big rectangles of the same colour and black pixels, and there's a speed hack for those.
New description text for Display Mode 4 is also present in English and French. To get it, update at least CATSFC/system/language.msg on your card.

FIX94 seems determined not to take a break this holiday season and therefore proposes, on the eve of the end of the year, the last of his famous 2012 vintage USB loader that gives pride to the coverflow. Program, full of new things and solving some annoying bugs.
Citation :
Lets begin the new year with wiiflow 4.1 :D
This time you dont just get bugfixes, also some cool new features and
modifcations are there :)
At first, you have a new menu in the global settings, page 2, now you can set
the cIOS load management directly in wiiflow, so if wiiflow runs better in a
cIOS, just enable force cIOS load, or if you want the default cIOS 250 instead
of 249, just set the force cIOS rev to 250 etc.
Wiiflow will now also auto create a savegame on your wii, and yes, a normal
savegame which you can see in the system menu, there we save our new cIOS stuff
from now on, and in the future we will for sure move more into that since the
NAND loading time is much shorter!
Also, the credits button in the main coverflow is replaced by the help button
(makes much more sense), and the help button in the home menu is replaced by a
install game button.
To the game installation, finally you can directly select the partition from now
on where you want to install the game, no need to go into global settings
anymore and set the partition there to something else :)
Also we now have full vWii compatility, the forwarder is updated, using my new
nand loader, and d2x works again, using my new installer and davebaols updated
cIOS sources.
The stupid shutdown bug should be fixed now lol, as well as all NAND emulation
bugs from SD card. Most network init bugs should be fixed now too, if you still
have some play around with the "async_network" option in your wiiflow.ini a bit,
for some people its better with and for some better without.
If you dont want to use the sd card to make debug logs may use the wifi gecko
option, its much better and more detailed now in the debug output, even more
than the sd card log! You can use the wifi gecko reader as always, see the
readme in it.
The categories menu is now also affected by parental lock, so nothing bad can
happen there anymore. Also if you select a partition for a plugin, it will be
saved specifically for that plugin, that means easier plugin partition
management. Last may important point is wiiflow now can load homebrew dols and
elfs up to 32mb, old limit was 16mb.
I wont mention all the other cleanups, bugfixes and whatever done in this rev,
but all that stuff should be reason enough to call it 4.1, have fun with this
rev guys :)

You can download and install the official forwarder to start the loader directly from the interface of the Wii. Note that a version vWii just out. Forwarder Official v14b Wiiflow Wii sha1: 7a64855483548b989efaac819725c84507ff46bf Forwarder Wiiflow v14b official version of vWii sha1: a704f15be2270a0d2983e673021fa4a16ffde4d4 Wiiflow 4.1 Official website: http://code.google.com/p/wiiflow/

Yesterday Frostegater released his port of Total_Noob’s CEF to vita firmware 2.02. Some of you reported trouble running the exploit on the EU and US versions of the game. A quick investigation led us to understand this was a problem happening when the language settings were not set to “English” on your Vita (or rather, when the UNO game would not show up with the English interface for you).

Frostegater quickly investigated and updated his work. You should now be able to launch the exploit independently of your Vita’s language settings.

Frostegater also used the opportunity to remind me that he is not the one who found the UNO exploit (he “just” used it to make his port of CEF), but that so many people found it that it is difficult to find an actual “author”. This is already stated in his Readme file, but Frostegater wants to credit hackers xiaolin, zer01ne and MaxiExtreme for finding this exploit. Although we’re sure other people found this exploit as well, these are the ones we know about.

I also want to thank user 173210 who investigated and fixed the issue independently yesterday, which already unstuck most of you, here.

If you are having issues using this exploit, please have a look at our tutorial on how to install and run homebrews/isos before you ask any question, thanks

Important update: it seems for the EU version, you need your console to be set to English language in order for the exploit to work. I’m sure Frostegater will look into this, but in the meantime, if you use the EU version, please switch your console language to English!

Happy new year again! We eventually got convinced to not wait any longer and release the files for Frostegater’s port of Total_Noob’s CEF for Vita Firmware 2.02.

As a reminder, this tool relies on an exploit in the PSP Game UNO. You must own a legit copy of the UNO game on your PS Vita Firmware 2.02 in order for this exploit to run. CEF will let you play PSP Homebrews and PSP backups on your Vita. It does not allow you to play pirated Vita games, or PS Vita native content. To summarize, CEF does what a CFW or a HEN would do on a PSP.

Installation / How to use

Installation and how to run are explained in the readme, but for the sake of it:
1.Extract the zip, and copy the folder that matches your version of the game (EU, JP, or US) to your content Manager PSAVEDATA folder. For example: My Documents/CMA/PSAVEDATA/1234567890abcdef/NPEH00020DATA00
2.It is recommended to install OpenCMA, although until Sony releases a new firmware, the regular CMA client is ok too
3.Copy the UNO savedata to your PS Vita with the content Manager
4.run UNO on your PS Vita, and press X (or O) to continue, this should load the exploit

As you all can see development has been sluggish after the huge 1.0.0 release (as it always happens after releases) but there are still new stuff to look out for. So since the release of 1.0.0 here is a breakdown of most of the changes on PCSX2 itself and its plugins:

Various SPU2-X fixes for crashes/hanging in some games

Snowblind engine fix (Baldur's Gate etc) which also fixed Mortal Kombat Shaolin Monks. Keep in mind Baldur's Gate games only work in software mode for now and with various bugs still (we are getting there...)

Adapter selector in GSdx so you can select your dedicated graphics card instead of that pesky on board graphics chip

Videos finally working for Katamari Damacy, Baldur's Gate, Tales of Destiny 2, Suikoden Tactics, Midnight Club,Guilty Gear XX Accent Core Plus, Ace Combat games and probably many more

Various fixes here and there

The website also got its share of fixes, with various layout fixes, a much nicer looking video gallery under Demo, random screenshot on index page really random ( ) and more functionality on the compatibility list. I am planning on adding some very handy features to it soon, which are still under development but I'm sure most will appreciate them!
Our community has also been very active, with many members coding tools and patches for PCSX2 which are worth a mention:

XInput Wrapper for DS3 and Play.com USB Dual DS2 Controller by Scarlet.Crush , so you can use your Playstation 3 DS3 controller with PCSX2 and PC games, supporting both rumble and button sensitivity

Pokopom, a (relatively) new pad plugin by KrossX, which works great for Playstation 3 DS3 controllers in conjunction with the above wrapper. Finally, our Youtube channel has already exceeded the 1,000,000 views mark!
On Saturday the 8th, my colleagues and I from the development team at MeinAuto hosted one of 160 Code Retreat events that took place all over the world.

The "Global Day of Coderetreat" is a day-long, intensive practice event, focusing on the fundamentals of software development and design. Our task that day was to program Conway's Game of Like, a cellular automaton, or, easier put, a very simple evolution simulation, in six one hour long sessions under different preconditions, like for example using no conditional statements. After each session the code had to be thrown away to start from scratch in the next one.

The language to write in was our choice, so I decided to do something special and bring the Game of Life to the Virtual Boy.

Everything was done in pair programming, so for each sessions, I paired up with another developer and mostly worked in Java that day. In the one session I actually worked in C on a Virtual Boy version, I got it running just in time, though. Although the code was deleted in the very next moment, I was trained enough to write it again in like 20 Minutes after the event.

That particular version makes use of the Virtual Boy Virtual Image Processor's (VIP) characters and backgrounds being perfectly suited and therefore uses an array of 48x28 8x8 pixel cells. In the following days I also created a version using 4x4 pixel cells on 4 layered backgrounds and an experimental (and not fully working) one with variable sized cells that writes directly to the framebuffers instead of using the VIP. In case you want to have a look at the surprisingly small sources, here they are, including compiled binaries:

A few days back YifanLu posted an entry to his blog explaining where UVL is now, and also speculating on some of the software and system security. For those of you wondering about the current state of this project, or why hacking a console takes such a long period, then it’s most certainly worth reading. It’s rather a long read, but most certainly worth it for those of you with the patience to do so.

The following was entirely written by Yifan Lu

PlayStation Vita: the progress and the plan

Sorry that it’s been a while since I’ve said anything about the Vita. I was caught by surprise the last time of all the media attention from just a simple call for help. While I still don’t want to say too much right now, I do want to answer some common questions I’ve been getting and also go over what needs to be done.

Did you hack the Vita? That’s a very vague question. What I have done, is run native code on the Vita with the same permissions as the game being exploited. This means I can load homebrews written and optimized for the Vita’s CPU and take full advantage of the CPU speed and RAM (unlike the PSP emulator or PSM, both impose artificial limits on resources and system functions). What has NOT been done (yet) is unlocking the system completely for tasks like USB interfacing, custom themes/system mods/plugins, and (fortunately) pirating games.

What’s UVLoader and how far along is it? The last I’ve spoken, I was beginning work on UVL and asked for any help I could get. Even though, I did not really get help, I did find people who were interested in what I was doing and we exchanged information. I also want to brag that I finished the main functionalities of UVL in a couple of weeks, and it has been “done” for about three months now. (Quotes around “done” because I decided to not worry about some features yet). That means, I can basically load most (most being the few that I manually built without an open sdk) compiled homebrews. You can run your standard hello worlds and spinning cubes and such, but in theory, it should load any homebrew built.

The second reason is that having a Vita exploit at this stage (when it is really hard to find exploits) is very rare if not a once in a lifetime thing. Me and others I’ve talked to agree that right now it’s more important to use this exploit to gather more information about the system in order to find more exploits and such than it is to run homebrews right now. We have PSM for homebrew games and PSP emulator for homebrew emulators, so there really isn’t a huge demand for native PSVita homebrews yet. As I’ll expand on below, we’ve only scratched the surface of Vita hacking and there’s so much more to see.

Can I help? Depends who you are. If you’re an established reverse engineer, you know how to contact me. If you just want to “beta test,” read above. If you know any other way of helping me, don’t ask, just do it™, since UVL is open source. Even though I don’t accept monetary donations before I release anything, if you have access to broken Vitas, memory cards, games, etc, or any unused hardware reversing tools like logic analyzers; anything you wouldn’t mind parting with, one of the things me and others involved don’t have access to is funds for materials to test some of the more… risky ideas and if you could help with that respect, just use the contact link at the top of the page to get in touch with me.

What needs to be done to “hack” the Vita? Again, that term is very vague, but I know what you mean. This is the perfect time to describe (as far as I know) the Vita’s security structure and what needs to be done at each level.

Vita userland

This is where UVLoader works; we exploited some game to run code inside it’s sandbox, meaning that if that game doesn’t have camera functions, no UVLoader Vita homebrew can use the camera either. This also means, of course, we can’t load pirated Vita games and so on. A fun fact here is that, in theory, if someone finds an exploit in Kermit, the system inside the PSP emulator that talks to the Vita through a virtual serial port, they can run UVLoader in the process hosting the emulator (one level higher than a PSP kernel exploit), meaning they may be able to modify the emulator to have more RAM or faster CPU or etc. Another advantage of running UVLoader here is that because the PSP emulator has access to more Vita hardware than most games (bluetooth, camera, etc), homebrews could have more access too.

However, it’s easier said than done. It’s hard to appreciate how hard it is to get a Vita userland exploit. Let’s work backwards: we want to somehow run native ARM code, how? Well, the classic route is some stack smash. But wait, modern ARM processors have XN (eXecute Never), which is a feature that only allow code in memory to run at specific locations (these locations are determined by the kernel and are read only). Ok, we have some other choices here: heap overflows, ROP (google if you don’t know), and so on (assuming you even know you got a working exploit, which in itself is hard to know without additional information; most “crashes” are useless), but all of these choices require that you know enough about the system to create a payload fitted for the system. That means, you need either a memory sniffer or somehow dump the memory. Well, let’s rule out hardware memory sniffing since the Vita has the RAM on the same system-on-a-chip as the CPU. How do we dump the memory then? Usually, you need to run some code to dump the memory or do some kind of oracle attack on crashes or error messages or something. Option one only works if we hacked the system before, and the second one, AFAIK, won’t work because the Vita doesn’t give any information when it crashes. So how did I get the first userland exploit? I’ll leave that as an exercise to the reader…

Vita kernel (lv2?)

Vita userland is the most we have access right now and PSP kernel mode is the most that is public. What comes after? Remember all information at this point could be wrong and is based off of the little evidence I have currently. We are in the Vita sandbox right now, which means we can run homebrew, but we can’t use functions that the game doesn’t use (camera, bluetooth, USB, etc). We also can’t modify the system (run Linux, change the theme, add plugins, etc). For those to work, we need to go one level up: the Vita kernel, which might be called lv2. Even with complete userland access, we can’t even poke at the kernel. The kernel acts like a black box, providing functions to the system through syscalls. You pass input into these syscalls and it returns some output, without revealing how the output is created. The kernel’s memory is separate from userland obviously, and even guessing what syscalls do (there’s no names in the memory, only numbers) is a challenge. In order to hack the kernel, we have a problem that is very much like the one I’ve stated above about getting Vita userland, except with even more limitations. Again, there’s the circular problem of needing a kernel RAM dump to inspect for exploits and requiring a kernel exploit to dump the RAM. Now, there’s even less “places” to inspect (visually and programmatically). In order of likelihood, one of the following needs to happen before there’s even a CHANCE of a kernel exploit: 1) Sony does something stupid like the PS3 keys leak, 2) we get REALLY lucky and basically stumble upon an exploit by just testing one of the several hundreds of syscalls with one of an infinite amount of different inputs, 3) some information leaks out from Sony HQ.

It’s still unknown how much control we would have if kernel mode is compromised, but me and some others think that we MAY at least be able to do something like a homebrew enabler (HEN) that patches signature checks temporarily until reboot, allowing for homebrews with no sandbox limitations (access to camera, BT, etc) and POSSIBILITY system plugins and themes. It is very unlikely at any keys will be found at this point or being able to create or run a CFW.

Bootloader? (lv0?)

Again, only conjecture at this point, but this is the holy grail, the final boss. Once this is compromised, the Vita would be “hacked” in every sense of the word. We may never get here (and by never, I mean maybe 5-10 years, but I would most likely not be working on the Vita at this point). Here’s is where I think the keys are stored. With this compromised, CFW of any past, present, or future firmwares could be created, and anything would be possible.

Summary

I guess to summarize, the reason there’s no release in the foreseeable future isn’t just because I don’t have time to make an sdk so there won’t be homebrews to use even if UVL is released. Even if the SDK does get done, at this point, it would be more attractive to use the control we currently have, double down, and try to get more control. If the exploit is revealed prematurely, getting the game pulled, and the firmware patched, sure we may get a fast N64 emulator in a couple of months when somebody has the chance to write it (and at that point, most people might be enticed to upgrade anyways for new firmware features and PSN access), but we will have to start at square one (read above about finding userland exploits) before having another chance at exploring the full potential of the system. Deep down, I am a researcher, and would have more interest in reversing the system than I would at making a release for users just so I could be the “first”. Like all gambles, I may end up with nothing, but that’s a risk I’m willing to take.

Developer Virtuous Flame, the dev behind many projects including the recent Open CMA, just recently revealed some information on Chinese scene site duowan.com about a kernel exploit and Vita eCFW (a Custom Firmware running on the Vita within the PSP emulator) he’s been working on, dubbed ARK.

Virtuous Flame revealed that he has access to another working kernel exploit other than that of Frostegater’s, working on 2.02 and running his own version of a eCFW. This is extremely good news considering kernel exploits in the psp emu can be hard to come by, it’s always good to have more.

Virtuous Flame’s eCFW ARK is something similar to that of Total_Noob’s CEF. Virtuous Flame is already hard at work on a new eCFW Ark through a new kernel exploit, on the latest Vita 2.02 official firmware update.

ARK along with this exploit has some advantages compared to TN-C such as a neat feature of being able to instantly go into loading into the eCFW ISO menu instead of having to load the save data (note: this is most likely a feature of the game used for the exploit rather than ARK itself), like what we have seen with other exploits. Another advantage is that game compatibility and homebrew/emulator compatibility seems to be on par with TN-C, if not extremely better. The release date seems a bit unclear for now, especially with Frostegater’s upcoming exploit release.

C4E’s BurnerMAX Payload Tool in association with Team Jungle & Team Xecuter
—————————————————————————————————
Official release of the BurnerMAX Payload Tool – works with most MTK chipset based DVD burners (Liteon etc)
- No need to flash burner firmware
- Delivers a realtime payload to increase capacity of DVD+R DL discs to support XGD3
- Support for stock iHas B, C, and D burners, all makes and models
- Support for many of the Liteon iHAS Clones
- Supports many other models such as ASUS, Samsung, Pioneer and many others
- Supports many Liteon and Samsung USB External Burners
- Supports many Liteon IDE Burners
- Supports any disc burning software – we recommend iMGBURN
How it Works
—————–
Load your favorite burning software. Insert your blank DVD+R DL disc. Send the BurnerMAX Payload. Re-select your drive in the burner software and the capacity will be increased.
You will need to send the BurnerMAX Payload evertime you insert a blank DVD+R DL disc.
Special vendor specific commands are sent to examine in realtime the drives custom registers, searching for specific DVD+R DL blank media capacity and layer capacity parameters.
If found these registers are modified using another set of vendor specific commands.
Due to the use of stock firmware and different burner makes and models, any settings the burner has play a more important role.
For iHas burners B, C and D, recommended settings are:
Force Hypertuning – Enabled
Online Hypertung – Disabled
Smartburn – Enabled
Overspeed – Enabled
OPC history – Do not clear
Results may vary depending on hardware and disc brand.
Verbatim DVD+R DL (Singapore Manufactured) Blank Discs are recommended for best results.
I would like to wish everyone a merry xmas and a happy new year – many more goodies are coming……
Thanks go to Team Jungle for their hard work and efforts in the development process.
Thanks also go to Team Xecuter for their support to this project.
I wish to dedicate BurnerMAX Payload Tool's release to the victims of the Connecticut school massacre and the bravery of the school teachers involved who saved many lives.
