Sony has confirmed that £50 is being lopped off the price of PS4 in the UK today.
The machine’s new RRP is £299.99, as per the rumours earlier this week and in line with the discounted price of the Uncharted Collection bundle that Sony told MCV at the time was a “promotional price that will be available for a limited time”.
The price cut applies to the whole of Europe, where the RRP has now been reduced to €349.99. There are also new prices for Australia ($479.95), New Zealand ($569.95) and the United Arab Emirates (AED1399).
Said Sony today: “Since the launch of PS4 our aim has always been to provide players with the best gaming experiences at the best value, and we’ve been thrilled with the amount of players who have joined our world.
“We have some fantastic bundle offers for the holiday season. From limited edition consoles to some of the best games of the year – there’s something for everyone.”

Meanwhile, former third place title FIFA 16 disappeared from the Top Ten completely, while the PS3 and PS4 versions of PES 2016 remained stable in seventh and eighth, respectively.
The only new entry in the software chart was Vita effort Geki-Dimension Tag: Blanc + Neptunia vs. Zombie Gundan, which filled out the podium in number three.
Over in the hardware rankings, PS4 hung onto its top spot, with sales only falling by 3,000 week-on-week. Second place was filled by the consistently popular New 3DS XL handheld.

Microsoft has said that combined Xbox One and Xbox 360 shipments for its fiscal Q1 were down 17 per cent year-on-year.
The company hasn’t revealed the actual sales figure, though did say the decline was mainly due to falling sales of the older Xbox 360 platform.
In the same period last year Microsoft reported Xbox sales of 2.4m units, so a 17 per cent decline – on the presumption it refers to unit sales – would point to sales this time of around 2m for the period.
In July Sony reported 3m PS4 unit sales for its Q1. At that stage global PS4 sales stood at 25.3m. The last time Microsoft revealed an Xbox One shipment number was back in November 2014, when it stood at 10m.
However, it’s certainly true that both systems are tracking well ahead of their predecessors, especially in the US. Both Xbox One and PS4 have had UK price cuts recently, in June and this week respectively.
There was big growth with Xbox Live. The service now has 39m active monthly users, up 28 per cent year-on-year and pushing Xbox Live revenues up 17 per cent. Game revenue soared 66 per cent thanks to the acquisition of Minecraft.
Microsoft’s overall revenue fell 12 per cent from $23.2bn last year to $20.4bn. Net income was up two per cent at $4.6bn. Revenues at its ‘More Personal Computing’ division, which is home to Xbox, fell from $11.2bn to $9.3bn. Operating income fell from $1.62bn to $1.56bn.
Interestingly, the company told Game Informer that it “will not be using console shipments as its primary metric for success beginning with this quarter” and that the company “is more focused on engagement, leading it to choose Xbox Live usership as its leading statistic”.

Superdata’s worldwide digital games report for September has shown an annual 11 per cent increase in sales.
Overall the digital games market was worth $5.4bn.
The biggest growth was seen in digital console game sales, which shot up 29 per cent to $326m. That’s despite the number of console players remaining flat – it’s just that these same users are buying more digitally than ever before, with the average monthly digital outlay up 39 per cent to $132.46.
Sales of digital console, PC and mobile games were all up, as were F2P MMO and social game revenues. Mobile remained the most lucrative digital sector, accounting for $2bn and up nine per cent. Mobile active user numbers are up 10 per cent year-on-year at 2.2bn.
The only sector to experience decline was premium MMOs, which fell eight per cent to $213m.
FIFA 16 was the world’s best-selling digital console game last month, followed by Destiny. Interestingly Superdata reckons two thirds of the latter’s revenues were made up of people buying full versions of the game and not just the Taken King expansion.
Both Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain and Mad Max sold stronger digitally on PC than they did on console. Added the report: “Konami’s efforts to release the PC edition of Metal Gear Solid V day-and-date with the console versions paid off in a big way as PC players flocked to the game despite the franchise’s console-focused history.”

FIFA 16 is favourite finish 2015 as the UK’s top selling game, according to Betway.
EA’s football title currently has odds of 2/5, ahead of second place Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 at 7/2. Third favourite is Fallout 4 (8/1) followed by Assassin’s Creed: Syndicate (9/1) and Halo 5: Guardians (10/1).
Outside bets include Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 5 and, amazingly, Spike Lee joint NBA 2K16 and NBA Live 16 all at 50/1. Slightly more generous are the odds for PES 2016, Just Cause 3 and Hitman, which stand at 33/1. The latter seems unlikely, though, thanks to its 2016 release date.
“FIFA 16 is sure to be at the top of a lot of Christmas lists and we think there’s a good chance this latest version can trump Call of Duty for a second year running,” Betway’s Alan Alger said.
“PES has been in FIFA’s shadow for the last decade and, although this latest release is touted to be the best for some time, we don’t think there will be a drastic popularity shift just yet.”
Star Wars: Battlefront doesn’t look like a terrible bet at 14/1.
Here are the odds in full:
