This is the third edition of this homage for coders in which SceneBeta.com distribute more than 3000€ in cash prizes, and also 4GB pendrives and trophies. If you are a coder, your homebrew can take part of the Scenery Beta and you can win one of the prizes.

The last year more than 80 homebrews where presented in PSP, NDS, Wii and PC platforms. In 2010 we will also accept homebrews for Android and iOS.

Scenery Beta 2010 is not a competition, it is just a festival (similar to cinema festivals) which not only pay tribute to all those great coders who make the scene bigger and bigger, but also make the rest of us enjoy with new games and applications for our favourite consoles and terminals.

And we also want to award to the users who help us to spread the original Scenery Beta article: you can win one 4GB pendrive and a T-Shirt if you create an article about the Scenery Beta in your blog or website. Here are the details.

Thank you to all the coders who help the Scene growing. We hope that all of you (and all the Scene lovers) enjoy this little homage.

You can post here if you have any doubt about it, I will try to answer ASAP.

    Enjoy. ...

carlosgs has just released a new version of downPSP, which is coded in C now. With this awesome application, you will be able to download (and install) into your PSP hundreds of homebrews, without using a PC. And dont worry, you can use the integrated search engine to look for the Homebrew that you need. You will also be able to explore your Memory Stick (rename or detele files, view PNG images, txt files...) and in the future we could even check our Gmail account...And even more: downPSP autoupdates itself from the Internet every time that a new version is released.

downPSP uses psp.scenebeta.com's database to download and install the Homebrews. Despite you see that the picture is in Spanish, downPSP has been translated into English.

    Controls:
    • X select/view/change (only in the config menu)
    • O back
    • Triangle search (in homebrew list and in filebrowser)
    • Square rename file (in filebrowser)
This application has already won several coding competitions (like the last Scenery Beta, and the NeoFlash Spring Compo), and now it takes part into the Scenery Beta 2009. If you are a coder, you can still present your work until the next 1st September.

A whole year has passed since the first Scenery Beta 2008, and our particular Homebrew Festival has returned with the summer time. This time we are glad to announce that we will give real trophies to the winners of each category. We hope that the Scenery Beta 2009 will bring to us even more Homebrews than the last festival (specially in sections like Wii and NDS). In order to achieve this purpose our Homebrew Festival will dristribute as much money as the last year (2.400€ even despite the global crisis), new model and capacity for the pendrives (4GB each one), new trophies, commemorative stickers and official diplomas.

Scenery Beta 2009 is not a competition, it is just a festival (similar to cinema festivals) which not only pay tribute to all those great coders who make the scene bigger and bigger, but also make the rest of us enjoy with new games and applications for our favourite consoles: PSP, Nintendo DS, Wii and PC.

    Let's get this party started!

Changes since the last Homebrew showcase

We want to summarize the changes since the Scenery Beta 2008, specially for those who toke part on it. We have considered our experiences after the last showcase, and all the suggestions that we received from the participants, who complianed about the Staff scale and votings from one coder to another, just for being friends. So this year:
    • There are no Staff scales.
    • We will only accept Homebrews that have been accepted in the previous Scenery Beta 2008 only if there are major changes, or better funcionality. The organization will reject all the works which do not include substantial changes.
    • Users voting will be more important, because the Homebrew are offered just for the general public. Besides, an user will not vote for only his favourite Homebrew, he will choose his 5 favourite Homebrews, in the correct order.
    • Coders voting will remain present, but they will be less relevant for the final score to avoid that a friend can vote to another.
    • The organization is testing these days different methods to avoid that some coders can get votes from the new users.
    • This year we will send some marvelous trophies, designed by Nova Rosa.
We have also heared to the participants when they spoke us about the prizes: most of them prefer money. When this Scenery Beta 2009 finishes we will send again a questionnaire, to check which changes have been nice and how we can improve future events.

    What is Scenery Beta 2009?

It's a Homebrew Festival, an "exhibition" or "fair" where we'll make know the works of coders from all around the world, and some of them as world novelty (hey, but always at coder's choice, that's absolutely only if you want!).

They may get to win cash prizes, which will be awarded by the score given by their fellow coders and the the users. You've got the details in the Scenery Beta Rules (link at the bottom of this new).

I'm a coder, can I enter the showdown?

Any coder can enter the showdown, of whatever country, as long as is willing to show his/her work. The only requisite is that the Homebrew has been under development during last year (or, of course, has been created purposely for this event!), and is available to some of the 4 platforms on which we have an active community at this moment: PSP, Nintendo DS, Wii or PC. You can see the submit periods and schedules at the end of this new).

Even more, we've open an "off-contest section", let's think of some SceneryAlpha, where to show those works which are proofs of concept, purely experimental, still unfinished or whatever, so you can get a broader audience and impact in the international Scene. We think that there is a huge load of really great ideas that get lost due to lack of, put simply, someone seeing them. And, yes, we think about giving some kind of award for great "off-contest" ideas.

We also want to tell you that you can publish your Homebrew in other Scene websites, even if it takes part in the Scenery Beta. But you should keep the Splash of the contest. It would be nice if you speak about the Scenery Beta in other websites, doing so the showcast will be better known and if an user checks your work and likes it, maybe he can vote for you in the contest, so it will also benefit you.

Inscription period: From the moment these rules are published until Sep, 1, 2009 at 24:00 hrs (UTC+2 timezone). Just send your works to [email protected] (check the rules, at the bottom of this thread, for more info).

All homebrews must include the Showcase starting/splah screen for its platform. (This is mandatory):

Official Splash Screens can be downloaded from the rules link, I don't atach them here because there are too big.

Finally we can publish the winners of the very first Scenery Beta. There has been a lot of good Homebrew over our 4 communities (PSP, NDS, Wii and PC), a nice fair play and the feedback of hundreds of user who have been voting and posting in order to improve all the works. Here it is, the final list with all the winners. Congratulations.

We remember you the awards, described in the Scenery Beta 2008 Rules:
    • 1st place: 150€ + Pendrive 2GB
    • 2nd place: 100€ + Pendrive 2GB
    • 3rd place: 50€ + Pendrive 2GB
    • 4th place: Pendrive 2GB
    • 5th place: Pendrive 2GB
We will also give a 2GB Pendrive to those Homebrew which have been presented to the off-contest section, to try to encourage those coders to finalize their projects.

The organization is very happy with the Scenery Beta, so there will be a 2009 edition. Prepare your consoles.

We also want to thank you all the users, Staff Members and specially coders, this little homage wouldnt be possible without them.

    Long live the Scene!!!

I give you link to the final results article. We have already send the cash prizes, and we want to inform all the winners that the pendrives will be sent along this month. ...

Carlosgs has just released a VERY usefull Homebrew. Maybe if you are a PSP's scene fan, you remember the oldie Install-o-tron, by Fanjita.

downPSP is very similar, we will be able to download, and install, some of the best Homebrew for our PSP, without using any PC!! You only have to configure your PSP's WiFi connection.

This is possible thanks to the GREAT LUAPlayerHM (Homemister). If Homemister implements the unrar function in LUAPlayerHM, we will be able to download almost ALL PSP Homebrew, directly to our Memory Stick, thanks to psp.scenebeta.com (because all the files there are prepared to be installed in the root of our Memory Stick).

For the time being, we can download Homebrew from PSP.SceneBeta.com, but it wont be installed automatically. We even can use an integrated search. Of course, you need to have an account in that PSP Homebrew community, if you want to download from there.

You can translate the application into English just pressing Square when it boots up. downPSP is also "skinable". And the best of all is that this application auto-updates every time you use it, so you will always get the last version easily.

This Homebrew takes part in the Scenery Beta 2008, an International Homebrew Showcase.

coolguy5678 has released a new Homebrew game for our PSP. This Homebrew takes part in the Scenery Beta 2008.

I copy from the Readme of the author:

This is a game based on the game "four-square" played all over the world. If the ball goes to your square, you have to hit it so it first bounces in your square and then in someone elses. If you make a mistake, you are out, everyone who was in a lower square moves up, and a new person enters the game in the lowest square (on the bottom-left). The highest square (top-left) is the king square, and if you make a mistake here, you only move to the lowest square, instead of going out.

You are the blue player. You earn points for staying in and playing fast shots. You earn double points when you are in the highest two squares. When you go out, your game ends.

A note about the rules: Four-square is played around the world, but the rules vary dramatically depending on where its played - so, don't tell me "the rules are wrong!"

    Controls
    • Use the analog/or d-pad to move.
    • Hold X to charge up your shot.
    • Release X when the ball is near you to hit it.
The ball is hit outward in the direction of the blue cone on your player. If the ball is far away from you when you release X, the ball will be hit at a shallower trajectory, unless the ball is outside your reach. It takes a while to get used to this, but its easy to play the game once you are used to the feel of the game. Try watching the AI players on the main menu.

pipagerardo has just released a new version for his GREAT Homebrew game for our loved PSP. If you like action and tanks, this will your favourite Homebrew game. This is the first Homebrew that takes part in the Scenery Beta 2008.

What about if I tell you that you will be able to play with a friend using PSP AdHoc connection? If you prefer to play alone, you will have to defeat tanks. At first, you only have one opponent, but if you continue playing...you will have to defeat 5 tanks on the field at the same time!!!

Enjoy this marvelous game, PSP Slim compatible and translated into English.

One of the best games that have ever been coded in LUA.

    New in version 2.0
    • Pause.
    • Graphics improvements.
    • 3D terrains (if your tank is at the top of a mountain, it will fire very far from your position!).
    • The game uses less PSP memory (so its more stable).
    • Added credits.
Note: The game is not compatible with previous versions of Cannons and Shields, so if you want to play versus another friend, please, use this v2.0 in both PSPs.

Finally, one of the ideas that has been buzzing for longer down the ears of the Group SceneBeta.com admins, has got to see the light: "kinda contest" of Homebrew. And it's a "kinda contest", like that, because we haven't planned quite a contest, but something truly akin to the film festivals, someplace to bring a little homage to those coders who make the Scene grow. The most outstanding works will, also, have a cash prize; we'll give away more than €2000 (more than three grand$)! And well, those of us unable to code, will be delighted by brand new releases whatever it's our favorite platform, either PSP, Nintendo DS, Wii or PC. Be welcome to Scenery Beta 2008, our own and only homebrew festival, scenery and fiesta!

We want to warmly thank to all our sponsors their support and trust which has made this showdown possible.

    Where'd you get that idea?

It's been some months now since the community Admins were toying with the idea of making some coding contest. It'd be the first time that a Spanish-speaking web did something like that. And finally, our nice little dream has come true!

I'm a coder, can I enter the showdown?

More details in the rules (link below this thread).

What are you looking for with Scenery Beta?

First and foremost, to pay homage and respect to the scores of anonymous or little-known coders who daily struggle to make our machines more and more useful. Also, we hope that the thousands of users who visit us every day have lots of fun checking and playing with the works, comfortably sitting at home.

In a nutshell, Scenery Beta is a great homebrew fair, with cash prizes for those people who give us something to talk about in these pages.

    ”Cheers to the Scene!
