Square Enix answers email on Kingdom Hearts petition

Around a day ago i sent a email to Square Enix, here was its contents.

"Firstly i would like to say hello to all the staff at Square Enix. I have recently started a online petition to get the good staff at Square Enix to start development of Kingdom Hearts onto the PSP. As a person who is very much involved with the PSP community, we all felt as a whole that this game is a must on the Playstation Portable.

    Heres the petition information-

I'm hoping to get over 20,000 signatures. If i do i would hope for some sort of response from Square Enix.

    Sincerely,

    Rafael Bernard"

    Heres Square Enix answer back

    "
Thank you for contacting SQUARE ENIX Customer Support,

We hope this letter answers your questions.

Our parent company, SQUARE ENIX of Japan, has no current plans to create a sequel to Kingdom Hearts at this time. This is not to say that it will never happen, it's just that their development teams are currently focusing on numerous other projects. Namely Final Fantasy Crisis Core and a few others. We hope this information has been of assistance.

    Thanks,
    Neil- SQUARE ENIX Customer Support

Heres some details on the battle system as so many users are interested on how the gameplay details and which battle system is current in this installment of final fantasy.

    Battle system

Crisis Core has action- and menu-based elements. The new battle system is known as Digital Mind Wave, or "DMW", and revolves around a series of reels at the upper left corner of the screen which spin continuously as long as there is SP left to consume. Each rotate independently and upon lining up the three reels of the same character and value, a power-up or a "Power Surge!" will be rewarded to Zack.

The player will have full control over Zack when moving around, and can rotate the camera with the left and right triggers. Every now and then, a random encounter battle will occur. The battle takes place on the same screen as regular movement, with no transition or loading.

Battles consist of multiple enemies on screen at once. To attack enemies, the command bar must be set to attack. Spells like Fire, Blizzard, Cure, and their higher level counterparts are also located on the command bar and used in the same fashion as previous titles in the series, although they deplete magic points with each use. Materia will also be present in the game, fully customizable and with a variety materia commands such as "Steal" and magics. The game automatically targets the closest enemy, and changes the target automatically as you move around. A quick roll maneuver and triangle to block incoming attacks can also be performed.

Here's a new Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII trailer. The video details story plot within the game along with the new battle system that we are going to see in Crisis Core. Which is refreshing from the usual Final Fantasy battle systems. The games theme song is "Why" sung by Ayaka. The games Japanese release date is September 13, 2007.

    News via corybarlog

Here's what Cory had to say-

"now I am just going lament a little about how sad it is to see him, and several others move on from Sony to bigger and better things…like Spongebob Squarepants. Just kidding…I don’t think anyone is going on to work on Spongebob. But alas they are indeed leaving, and that fills my heart with sadness. I know that each of them are going on to work on something great, and I am happy for that. I just wish they weren’t breaking up the band. So to all of the extremely talented peeps who helped make God of War 1 and God of War 2 the best that it could be…you will be missed.

On a much more upbeat note, things are progressing forward quite nicely with the new project. We have finished the story and gameplay outline as well as the rough level design overview. That is a huge freaking relief to have that all worked out…though now is the time everyone will tell me we don’t have the time or the manpower to finish it. But that is how it usually is in the beginning…a long negotiation of figuring out what the game is an how it could possibly get done.

I also got to see some cool mechanics that have been in the prototype pipe for the last few weeks. Always good to see things that you can actually play with this early on.

The PSP game is moving along nicely as well. I am going to be playing through the latest build tomorrow to check out all the new stuff.

As for that CVG rumor…I would have to say that there isn’t much truth to any of that…that is really the first I have heard of that. If we do get started on a GOW for PS3 you can be sure I will be screaming about it from the mountain tops the first chance I am allowed. Until then…I am plugging away on my RPG opus ‘A Family Ties game’. It is going to be so freaking awesome…awesome to a level that will actually transcend awesome and become something entirely different… freakin LA LAWsome!
ok...I am tired from a wicked bout of insomnia last night so I am going to end this now."

Sony and PSM say, "What interview?"

One of the most popular rumors floating around the Internet last week was that Sly Cooper 4 is coming to the PlayStation 3. The gossip, reportedly attributed to the next issue of PSM, was popularized at PlayStation fan site PSX Extreme (via this article) and it spread to message boards from there. In the article, PSXE claimed that PSM held an interview with the Sucker Punch development team where the following was said...

"The graphics have been majorly overhauled and the gameplay will be more varied and focused this time around. We're aiming for a fully interactive 3D world, with no loads and seamless interaction between settings and characters."

Article author, Ben Dutka, speculated that the new Sly project would likely be for PlayStation 3 because "two Sly games are slated to come out simultaneously and have connectivity with one another." It was further reported that the two games, of which the other is supposedly for PSP, are likely be shown at E3 in July.

But here's the rub. Sony and PSM (USA branch) both deny that the interview happened.

"Yeah, it's not us," commented PSM Editor-in-Chief, Rob Smith. "It must be a PSM in Europe somewhere."

Sony Computer Entertainment PR Manager Jennifer Clark added, "There have been no announcements made in regards to future Sly Cooper products and there are no plans for the franchise to appear at this year's E3. Any information that has recently been reported is pure rumor and speculation."

Curious, we had our UK staff check the latest issue of PSM UK as well.

"There's nothing in there about Sucker Punch or a new Sly game," reported IGN UK guy, Alex Simmons. "And the next issue isn't to subscribers yet."

When contacted, PSXE editor Ben Dutka said that his original source for the article was a report found on News for Gamers (linked), where it's revealed that the whole thing started as an anonymous posting at GameFaqs.

"Obviously, it's only a forum post so that's hardly something concrete," commented Dutka. "But I believe it's true. Usually I get a notice from Sony or whomever if we post an erroneous article, and I would've expected to see something if this wasn't actually fact."

Does this long trail of rumors mean that Sly Cooper 4 and Sly Cooper PSP isn't happening? Not necessarily. Sucker Punch is working on at least one "next-gen" project as we reported in this story published last year, but then again, the existence of such a project does not automatically equal "Sly Cooper."

Thus far, everyone that would have been involved in the original interview (if it even exists) has yet to substantiate it.

    news via itwire

Tokyo gaming research firm Enterbrain says that the Nintendo Wii is outselling the Sony PS3 by a factor of five to one in May, accelerating from four to one in April, in the latest bad PS3 news.

Sony can’t even get a lucky break in Japan, where the Wii is seriously outselling the PS3, as reported by Bloomberg. Bloomberg quotes the Tokyo gaming research company Enterbrain Inc with the information, and say that while Nintendo sold 251,794 Wii consoles, Sony only sold around 50,000 units.

This compares with 11,082 Xbox 360’s from Microsoft, showing they are doing even worse in Japan, although naturally they are still selling units at more than 2000 per week, while the Nintendo DS is doing to the PSP what the Wii is doing to the PS3: also outselling it five to one.

Enterbrain’s figures are 620,670 DS handheld consoles compared with only 123,673 PSP’s.

This is all despite the Wii having the worst graphics, standard definition instead of high definition, no hard disk, the inability to play DVD movies, no Blu-ray or HD DVD – but simply a unique control mechanism that has caught the imagination of people around the planet.

At figures of around 50,000 units sold for the PS3 in May, Sony are still selling over 10,000 PS3’s per week, which is nothing to be sneezed at, and as programmers release better quality PS3 games and that take better advantage of the PS3’s own motion sensing capabilities, we should start seeing an upsurge in PS3 sales.

But for now the Wii rules the roost, with a long hard slog ahead for Sony and Microsoft to take back the initiative, especially come the big holiday/Christmas season later this year, in what will be the biggest console gaming battle to be fought ever.

    news via nintendojo

Bill Gates apparently thinks that Wii is the future of computer hardware and software. But not in so many words.

Speaking with Apple CEO Steve Jobs at the D5 conference, the Microsoft founder described what he saw as the future of input devices for PCs and other electronic media: "And as we get natural input, that will cause a change. … Software is doing vision and so, you know, imagine a game machine where you’re just going to pick up the bat and swing it or the tennis racket and swing it."

To which the moderators replied, "We have one of those," and referred to Wii by name.

Gates, however, insisted that Nintendo's console was not what he was talking about, saying, "No, that’s not it. You can’t pick up your tennis racket. And swing it."

It's possible that those who've played Wii Tennis might think otherwise, however.
