    Heavy Rain is not your typical game -- the experience promises to change and morph throughout the different scenes. While the Taxidermist and Mad Jack scenes are reasonably similar, with our protagonists infiltrating areas for clues and then making their escape after being discovered, the new scene shown off at E3 by Quantic Dream's David Cage illustrated how situations and gameplay styles will differ throughout.

    This new scene does exactly what it says on the tin. Named "Madison At The Blue Lagoon," it follows the exploits of our female protagonist, Madison -- who you may recognise from the Taxidermist scene -- at a busy club called the Blue Lagoon. Madison has gone in search of the club's owner, Paco, in order to get new information regarding something. As usual, Quantic Dream's David Cage is appropriately cagey about giving away too much of the story.

    In contrast to the other scenes we've been shown, which have involved only a couple of characters at a time, the Blue Lagoon is packed full of people. Madison weaves through them naturally and realistically as she makes her way through the dancing throng towards the bar. This game's graphical fidelity tends to range from "incredible" to "a bit iffy," but this scene looked great, despite the relatively large number of characters on screen. With a Q1 2010 release date and with the game 70% done, there's still time to iron out any graphical kinks.

    Nintendo is remaking Pokemon Gold and Silver into Pokemon Heart Gold and Soul Silver. We've known this much since last month.

    But what no one knew about until now is the little special extra Nintendo is preparing for the title. In Japan, each copy of Heart Gold and Soul Silver will come bundled with a PokeWalker, a pedometer that looks like a Pokeball.

    You can transfer a single Pokemon from Heart Gold and Soul Silver into this device, carrying your little friend with you when you go out. As you walk, the internal Pokemon gains experience and grows happier.

    Additionally, the PokeWalker converts your steps into watts, a currency that can be used to catch wild Pokemon and shop for tools. These can then be sent back into Heart Gold and Soul Silver.

    Nintendo hasn't shared pricing for Heart Gold and Soul Silver in Japan, so we're not sure if there will be an extra charge for the included hardware.

    Currently, this bundle deal applies only to Japan, although we imagine Nintendo would keep such a deal intact when bringing Heart Gold and Soul Silver to the rest of the world.

    In addition to this news, we've managed to get our hands on first official media for the remakes. Check out our media gallery for art of the game's selectable male and female characters; the first three Pokemon, Chikorita, Cyndaquil and Totodile; and two Legendary Pokemon, Ho-oh and Lugia. We also have a few screens from early in the game.

    Microsoft developer Turn 10 has told of its "surprise" when Gran Turismo developer Polyphony Digitial stumbled over to try Forza Motorsport 3 at E3 last week.

    Apparently, the handful of visiting GT5 devs were keen to get their hands on Microsoft's competing racer, but that didn't stop Turn 10 calling Gran Turismo a "stagnant" racing series.

    "Perhaps the most surprising [visit] to me was when a couple developers from Gran Turismo makers Polyphony Digital came by to personally get hands-on with Forza 3, all the while taking careful notes, examining our UI system, shooting photos, and directly asking us some pretty interesting questions," Turn 10's Che Chou posted on his blog.

    "The reason I say I was personally surprised was because PD aren't generally known as a studio to acknowledge that there are racing games that exist beyond their own. Which could explain why the GT franchise has been so stagnant in the racing genre since GT3."

    Apparently other celebrities who stopped by at the Forza stand included "Steven Spielberg, Victoria Beckham (with her little boy), Incubus drummer Jose Pasillas, DJ and Turntablist Chris Killmore, folks from LA Galaxy, Aisha Tyler, some dude who came by to shoot a segment for the Jimmy Fallon Late Night Show."

    Apple's newest iPhone 3GS will be the most powerful yet with more robust graphics and a faster network connection when it hits on June 19 for $200 to $300, the company announced today during their annual World Wide Developers Conference.

    The iPhone 3GS will hit the same week as the new game-centric 3.0 firmware for the iPhone and iPod Touch. The 3GS will sell for $199 for the 16GB version and $299 for the 32GB version. The original 3G will stay on the market for $99 with 8GB of storage.

    Apple calls it "the most powerful, fastest iPhone we've ever made."

    With the 3GS, launching messaging is faster, viewing Excel is faster and loading SimCity is 2.4 faster. The 3Gs will include a 3MP autofocus camera, 30FPS VGA video capturing and supports OpenGL/Es and 7.2 Mbps HSDPA. The 3GS will also include a built-in digital compass.

    The device's battery life has also been improved, with the 3Gs getting nine hours of life on Wifi, compared to the 3G's six, and 30 on audio, compared to 3G's 10.

    Last week sources told Kotaku that the new iPhone would sport a gaming-centric 3D graphics chip, run on a faster national network. We were also told that Apple's 3.0 firmware for their existing iPhones, which includes a bounty of new features for gaming, will hit on the same day.

    This year the World Wide Developers Conference drew 5,200 developers from 54 countries. Apple also announced today that they have sold more than 40 million iPhones and iPod Touch. They've also logged more than a billion downloads and the App Store has 50,000 programs. That's quite an install base.

    Apple's firmware and this new iPhone come at a time when the company is seeing huge growth in the games flooding their App Store. The company seems to be a crossroads of sorts, one that has folks like the Entertainment Software Association sort of hinting that they need to dive in with both feet. ...

    Apple is launching iPhone OS version 3.0 next week, bringing with it a slew of new features, including cut and paste, undo, MMS support and more. But what about the gaming features?

    We already knew that Apple would allow for in-application purchases, ushering in the era of microtransactions via add-on game packs and other downloadable types of content. iPhone OS 3.0 also adds new options for developers to tap into other new features, including new "push" notification technology, Google Maps availability in any application, peer-to-peer support for paid apps and much, much more.

    Two iPhone game developers, Gameloft and ngmoco, showed off playable apps that take advantage of these new features.

    Gameloft's Asphalt 5 takes advantage of peer-to-peer functionality by adding multiplayer over Bluetooth. It also lets players tap into their own music collections by accessing custom soundtracks directly from your iPod library.

    ngmoco's Star Defense, just released today, will be one of the first games to take advantage of in-app purchases. iPhone owners can download new galaxies adding "hundreds of hours of gameplay." Publisher ngmoco plans for free and paid-for downloadable content packs. ...

    Nintendo has updated the WiiWare store with Final Fantasy IV: The After Years, which costs 800 Nintendo Points (GBP 6 / EUR 8 approx) to download.

    This, a spin-off of the episodic series for mobile phones, follows the adventures of Ceodore - son of FFIV heroes Cecil and Rosa. There are further episodes to download for 300 NP (GBP 2.25 / EUR 3 approx.) a pop.

    Meanwhile, Art Style: Kudos and Animal Crossing applications bolster the DSiWare stock cupboards.

    The Art Style series is worth nothing, and Kubos presents a tower-climbing game with 10 levels and high scores to chase. Art Style: Kubos costs 500 NP (GBP 3.50 / EUR 5 approx.)

    Clock and Calculator are the Animal Crossing applications, and they've got features like Animal Crossing-themed alarms and animations to make checking the time or totting up sums more fun. These cost 200 NP (GBP 1.50 / EUR 2 approx.) each. ...

    Sony America marketeer Peter Dille claims that development kits for the motion-sensing PS3 wand have already been sent to third-party studios and the technology is further along than we thought.

    "We're a little bit past the research phase," Dille told GameSpot, countering Microsoft's E3 announcement that Project Natal dev kits are being sent to developers this week.

    "We're having conversations with the third-party community. The dev kits have started to go out to the third parties as well. They're working on the tech. They couldn't be more excited about it," Dille added.

    But for all their posturing, neither company has yet provided a solid date for either technology. That Microsoft has a final product rather than prototype and at least one game suggests Project Natal may arrive first.

    First behind Nintendo, of course, which launches the Wii MotionPlus accessory on 12th June. WMP adds a gyroscope to the Wiimote, which takes the controller to a maximum six degrees of motion-sensing freedom. ...

    The Wii's Super Smash Bros Brawl will no longer allow users to uploaded snapshots, stage designs or reply data online, according to announcement on the game's official website.

    No reason is given for the move and the features will no longer be supported after June 30, although users will still be able to download existing data. Standard online play appears to be unaffected by the changes.

    The game was released as recently as June 2008 in Europe (January 2008 in Japan), when it earned a positive critical response. It also became one of the best-selling games of the year and the fifth-strongest seller on the Wii to date with 8.4 million sales worldwide. It's also currently the best-selling Wii title not bundled with additional hardware.

    The game's online features remain some of the most complex on the format, although the quality of online play has long been criticised by players. Thus far no other online Wii title has seen its full range of online features curtailed after such a short period of time. ...

    More downloadable Pokemon is on the way to WiiWare. Nintendo announced today in Japan Ransen Pokemon Scramble, a slightly different take on the Pokemon franchise.

    In Scramble, you take control of a windup Pokemon toy in overhead stages of play. As you defeat rival Pokemon and, eventually, bosses, you end up building up your roster of ally Pokemon.

    This is where the "Ransen" part of the title comes into play. "Ransen" is Japanese for "Battle Royal." Once you've gathered Pokemon of enough strength, you can enter a battlefield to face your party off against dozens of rivals. Your goal is to be the last one standing.

    While there does appear to be a strong single player component to the game, Pokemon Scramble will also support four player cooperative play. Other players can bring over their Pokemon data via their Wiimotes. Those with limited controllers can get two player play out of a single Nunchuck/Wiimote combo.

    For a first look at at Pokemon Scramble, see the game's official site. The site is is in Japanese, as Nintendo has yet to announce an English release.

    In Japan, players will get their hands on this new Pokemon game on June 16. The title is priced at 1,500 WiiPoints.
