Yes, you read correctly... "The very first time", thanks to the U.S. PlayStation Store having the demo, which for some reason the UK store does not (I've even searched for it many times).

Anyway, I played through the first level demo with my SEGA Saturn controller (I now refuse to play a Sonic game with a non-SEGA controller) and was quite impressed with the demo overall. Although, it was ruined by the adding of the lock-on targeting, which did not exist pre-SonicAdventure.

Also, to celebrate my new YouTube channel (VampDudeDCEmu), which from time to time I will upload gaming related videos. My dodgy footage from my HDDcam, which was rested on my knee during gameplay. Something that will not be an issue once I go back to recording in my standard format, when my new HDD arrives for my homebrew PS3 (component to DVD) and free advertising to DCEmu.

I'm considering purchasing the full version from the store, but I'll wait and see if anyone wishes to see a playthrough. Obviously without the shaky cam. ...

Does anybody remember Crystal Dynamics’ cult third-person action adventure title, Legacy Of Kain: Soul Reaver? Some of you. Well as of tomorrow you’ll be able to revisit the PSone classic as it launches for £7.99 on the European PlayStation Store. For those unfamiliar with the title, it’s pretty moody. If moody is your cup of tea, then step right ahead.

Customs officials within the European Union are reportedly confiscating imports of PlayStation 3 consoles, according to an unconfirmed report. The U.K.'s The Guardian newspaper reported Monday that customs officials had seized shipments of the PlayStation 3 consoles in response to an ongoing patent dispute between LG and Sony. The seizures amount to a quarantine, however, as the imports are being held for ten days. "Tens of thousands of PS3s were seized by customs officers last week in the Netherlands," the Guardian reported.

So far, Sony and LG officials have not provided official comment or confirmation, and the EU has not posted any official confirmation on its Web site. Within the United States, LG and Sony have engaged in an ongoing patent dispute. Sony has claimed that LG's phones infringe its patents; LG, in response, has said that the Blu-ray drives used within the PlayStation 3 infringe its own technology. LG reportedly asked the U.S. International Trade Commission to block the sale of PlayStation 3s and Bravia televisions within the United States. LG's suit can be seen as a response to one Sony filed in late December; in it, Sony claimed that several LG phones infringe Sony's patents. They include the LG Quantum, the new Windows Phone 7 device available on AT&T, as well as the Cosmos, Accolade, Encore, enV Touch, Fathom, Glance, GU295, Lotus Elite, LX370, Neon, Remarq, Rumor Touch, VL600, Vu Plus, and Xenon. Sony said it wants the ITC or the court to stop LG from importing, selling, marketing, advertising, or demonstrating the infringing devices in the U.S., the same request that LG made of the agency. Meanwhile, Sony is attempting to tamp down the actions of George Hotz. Hotz hacked the Sony PS3 and posted his circumvention technique on his Web site, as well as links for others to do the same. Under the order, he is banned from posting or distributing those links or information about his hacking techniques. He must also turn over computers, hard drives, CD-roms, DVDs, USB sticks, or any other storage devices on which the circumvention devices are stored.
    Hotz is contesting the suit.

Defence Secretary Liam Fox has launched a scathing attack on the forthcoming video game Medal Of Honor, over reports that it allows players to kill British troops as Taliban soldiers. Fox has branded the new shooter from Electronic Arts "un-British" and has called on video games retailers to refuse to sell it.

In an interview with The Sunday Times, Fox said: "it's shocking that someone would think it acceptable to recreate the acts of the Taliban.

"At the hands of the Taliban, children have lost fathers and wives have lost husbands. I am disgusted and angry. It's hard to believe any citizen of our country would wish to buy such a thoroughly un-British game. I would urge retailers to show their support for our armed forces and ban this tasteless product."

Medal Of Honor, the latest instalment in EA's military first-person shooter, is set in present day Afghanistan and the single player campaign is centred around the efforts of US troops to defeat the Taliban. The publisher has reponded to the criticism from Fox by citing the game's authenticity. It also went on to point out that the reports stating that the game allows players to kill British troops for points are wholly inaccurate.

“Medal of Honor is an 18-rated highly authentic depiction of the soldier's experience in Afghanistan – matching US forces against the Taliban in today's war," an EA spokesperson said.

"Multi-player combat is a long-standing, common and popular feature of videogames. In multi-player, teams assume the identities of combatants on both sides of the conflict. Many popular videogames allow players to assume the identity of enemies including Nazis and terrorists. In the multi-player levels of Medal of Honor, teams will assume the identity of both US forces and the Taliban."

"The Sunday Times and other media stories on Medal of Honor contain inaccuracies," he added. "For one, Medal of Honor does not allow players to kill British soldiers. British troops do not feature in the game.”

Video games site Eurogamer.net has reported that the Department for Culture, Media and Sport has distanced itself from Fox's remarks, describing his comments as a "personal view". ...

The world's biggest mobile phone maker, Nokia, has filed a lawsuit against Apple claiming the iPad 3G and iPhone infringe five of its patents.

Nokia claims the infringements involve technology used to enhance speech and data transmission and antenna innovations for compact devices.

This is the latest salvo in a long-running legal battle between the two companies.

Nokia and Apple are embroiled in another dispute concerning the iPhone.

"We've taken this step to protect the results of our pioneering development and to put an end to continued unlawful use of Nokia's innovation," said Paul Melin, general manager of patent licensing at Nokia.

In a statement, the company said that during the past two decades Nokia has invested about $51bn (£34bn) in research and development and has rounded up 11,000 patents.

Last year Nokia filed a similar lawsuit which claimed that various Apple products infringed Nokia patents. Apple responded with a countersuit against Nokia for infringing Apple patents with its smartphones.

Meanwhile, Apple is also involved in another legal row with Taiwan's HTC, maker of Google's Nexus One phone, which it says has infringed patented technology.

Patent disputes are common in the technology industry and often end with some kind of licensing agreement, correspondents say.

The Nokia lawsuit came on the day Apple announced that its iPad tablet computer will go on sale in nine countries outside the US on 28 May. ...

DENVER - Bill Jordan was just doing a favor for a Canadian coworker who asked him to purchase a new Apple iPad, since the device wasn't yet available in Canada. But his goodwill gesture made him a target for thieves last Thursday afternoon at the Cherry Creek Shopping Center.

After purchasing the iPad, which can retail for $499 to $829 according to the Apple Store's website, Jordan went to the mall exit. While in between two sets of doors, a man crept up behind Jordan and started pulling the bag.

"He was pulling with all of his might, probably thinking that he could just pull it out of my hand and be gone quickly. But the chord (of the bag) was wrapped around my finger," he said.

That didn't stop the thief. Mall surveillance video shows that the man kept pulling the bag until he ripped Jordan's pinky finger.

"It was opened up to the bone all the way to the top. Like I told my wife when I saw it, I figured they wouldn't be able to save it."

Jordan's pinky finger on his left hand was amputated at the knuckle. The 59-year-old, who is left-handed, will likely need therapy to learn how to do things like type on a computer, using his injured hand.

"It just doesn't seem like, in my mind, something that is worth hurting someone over," Jordan said.

The thief, who was seen in earlier surveillance video with another man, eventually got the iPad and escaped through a south exit. Denver Police Department Spokesperson Sonny Jackson says, even though investigators don't know if the other man was waiting in a getaway car, they believe the pair had an escape plan and premeditated their crime.

"When they're walking above (on the second level of the mall) they see the (victim)," said Jackson. "They obviously targeted him and went for him and took his device."

Police are offering a reward of up to $2,000 for information leading them to one or both men, anonymous tips can be reported at 720-913-STOP (7867).

"The safety and security of our customers and the shoppers who are coming here is our first priority," said Cherry Creek Mall Marketing and Sponsorship Director Dave Dixon. He added that the mall keeps security guards constantly on staff, along with an undisclosed number of surveillance cameras.

"If there's a message here, it's that people have to be careful wherever they go," said Jordan.

Square Enix is exploring the possibility of reissuing PSOne RPG Final Fantasy IX via PSN.

According to producer Shinji Hashimoto, the studio has been gathering feedback on whether fans would like to see the game appear on the digital storefront.

"Thanks to everyone for your opinions on FF9," Hasimoto wrote on Square Enix's Twitter feed. "Regarding an FF9 download release, everyone is so passionate about it that I'll be proposing it at the next board meeting. Look forward to next week."

Final Fantasy IX was the last main entry in the franchise to appear on the PSOne. Released in 2000, the game took the series back to its fantasy roots.

Predecessors Final Fantasy VII and Final Fantasy VIII are already available for download on PSN. ...

Capcom Europe has today revealed the final box art design for the forthcoming Super Street Fighter IV. Set for release across Europe on both Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 on April 30th 2010, as revealed earlier this week, Super Street Fighter IV will improve on it’s predecessor by offering additional characters, backgrounds, gameplay modes and those sorely missed bonus rounds from Street Fighter II.

Street Fighter IV launched in February 2009 to critical acclaim. Electronic Theatre delivered an in-depth review shortly after launch, stating that; “Street Fighter IV is a fantastic rendition of a one much-loved series, and will undoubtedly be a success at retail.” Which, it seems, it most certainly was.

Super Street Fighter IV sees the addition of new characters Cody and Guy from the Final Fight series, and the all-new Juri, as well as the Electronic Theatre Imagereturn of a number of old favourites. Super Street Fighter II’s Deejay and T. Hawk join the line-up, as well as Adon from the very first Street Fighter title, later featured in the Street Fighter Alpha series. In addition to these new characters, a handful of new backgrounds (featured in new screenshots here) and a number of new gameplay modes will be included in the title also, all of which are demonstrated in a trailer, available right here.

Super Street Fighter IV will be available across Europe this coming April, and Electronic Theatre will keep you updated with all the latest details on this and other forthcoming titles from Capcom.
