Sprint has slapped a fresh coat of paint on its prepaid mobile by rebranding Sprint As You Go to Sprint Prepaid and launching all-new plans. The carrier has more attractive pricing too, though there's a caveat. The Smart Plus LTE data plan is $10 less at $60, but the previously unlimited data is now throttled after 2.5GB like plans on Sprint's Virgin and Boost Mobile brands. If you don't need network data, the basic Smart Plan is $45 for unlimited calls and texts (plus WiFi data), a $5 drop over last year. You'll also be able to pick any device you want, as long as it's an LTE Samsung Galaxy S3, LTE Galaxy S4 mini, 3G Moto G or pre-owned Apple iPhone 4s. With T-Mobile having just doubled down on data, we're not sure how tempting that sounds -- but if Softbank gets its merger, it may soon not matter.

Several UK supermarkets look set to enter a big price war after Morrisons announced discounts worth 1 billion over the next three years.
Asda has already responded with an advertising campaign claiming to undercut Morrisons, reports The Daily Mail, while Aldi last night promised to save shoppers 35 per cent on their weekly shop.
The cost of some everyday essentials could fall by up to a quarter as 'the big four' (Asda, Tesco, Sainsbury's and Morrisons) take on growing budget chains Aldi and Lidl. And Asda, Tesco and Sainsbury's all pledge to match Morrisons' prices.
Although the discounts are currently within the food category, it wouldn't be surprising to see some of the big supermarkets slashing the price of non-food items such as PC/technology products and consumer electronics.
Morrisons and Lidl don't currently stock tech products - but the other four major supermarkets do.
Shares dipped yesterday, with 2 billion wiped off the combined share value of Tesco, Sainsbury's and Morrisons.
Morrisons CEO Dalton Philips said: "The biggest challenge that we face is that there has been a fundamental change in how consumers view discounters. They are no longer going to them out of necessity. The perception has changed and there is a new price norm.
"We are going to lower our prices on a permanent basis. The rules have changed and we must change too. It is absolutely critical that we begin winning again in our core supermarkets. To do that we must compete on price."

David Cumming of Standard Life added: "Aldi and Lidl are growing shares at double digit while the majors are losing market share and they have to do something about it. If they are relatively expensive and the customers know it they need a price reset, or price war, whatever you want to call it, before they can move forward in terms of sales."

"Amazon officially announced that it is increasing Prime Membership fees from $79 to $99. Amazon Students will pay $49, and participants of Amazon Fresh (the grocery shopping service) will continue to have a $299 fee. The price hike in Prime Membership is attributed to rising shipping costs, but some wonder if the 'real question around Prime is whether it's sustainable at all, even at a higher price.'"

Even though CES 2014 is long gone, some of the stuff announced there is just now starting to become available for purchase. Case in point: Sharp's Q+ lineup (originally known as Quattron+), a series of 2014 AQUOS televisions featuring the latest and greatest, including a revamped SmartCentral platform. But that's not what's interesting here. Instead, it's the Q+ technology, one that Sharp describes as being able to "accept a 4K signal and play it back at near-4K resolution, with an effective resolution of up to 3,840 x 2,160."
The company says this is possible thanks to its Revelation Upscaler, which takes HD content and "optimizes it for the higher resolution screen, so that it's sharper and more vivid." By building Q+ TVs on 1080p panels, Sharp claims it's then capable of pricing these lower than some of its would-be competitors. Now, is that enough to get you to buy into it? If so, you'll have quite a few options to choose from -- they're up for grabs now in 60-, 70- and 80-inch flavors, with prices ranging from $2,500 all the way to a cool $6,000.
