• March 2013 - DCEmu Turns 9 Years Old and Still Going Strong

Its Now March 2013 and DCEmu the Homebrew & Gaming Network is now 9 Years old. I actually started the sites back in 2002 but joined them under the DCEmu name back in 2004 when the site was foremost a Dreamcast Site, since then we have expanded and cover all homebrew scenes as new consoles come into play. To make sure the site gets back to what it does best i have merged the discussion forums and unmerged all the news forums, which for everyone makes for a better reading experiance, no one wants to search for PS2 news on a PS3 merged news forum because it takes ages to find it. Also this month we have launched new sites for PS4, GCW Zero and also an Open Source Handhelds website. Thanks for visiting DCEmu and please join in the discussion and remember if you are a coder then you can upload to our forum instead of using crappy internet upload sites.

The pink and white 3DS XL was released in North America over the holidays as a limited edition, first sold online, then briefly through retailers. Just in time for Valentine's Day, when the color pink overruns stores nationwide, Nintendo is bringing the pink 3DS XL back.

According to a post on the company's Facebook page, it'l be out this week "at stores coast to coast." It would probably look really nice with a bouquet of roses. Just saying.

Saturo Iwata accepted responsibility for lower than expected international sales of the 3DS.
Having already pointed a finger at its international teams for the disappointing performance of Wii U to date, the Nintendo boss also believes that the company has only itself to blame for the handheld’s current performance.
“It is obvious that if we are able to sell only about the same number of units of Nintendo 3DS next fiscal year as this fiscal year, the sales growth of software will be limited,” he said.
“In such a case, we will probably not be able to reach the level of operating profit we are aiming for. Therefore, the current sales levels of Nintendo 3DS in the overseas markets are not at all satisfactory in regard to the hardware’s potential.
“This is not happening due to external factors.
“In our understanding, this is because we could not fully convey the appeal of the Nintendo 3DS platform and as a result, fewer consumers purchased it than we had expected. So, obviously, our aim is to increase our hardware sales more than in this fiscal year.”
The comments are in direct contrast to Iwata’s insistence that low software sales are not of Nintendo’s own making. In the same investor conference, Iwata blamed retail for the failure of a number of potential software hits.
However, many onlookers would agree with the notion that Nintendo is at least partly responsible for the plight that it currently faces.
The age-old lack of first party software support for its machines, the high retail price of Wii U, high download prices, limited hardware memory and an almost belligerent resistance to step fully into the digital frame are of Nintendo’s making, not the market’s.
And what Iwata fails to note, of course, is that Nintendo’s UK team cannot be blamed for the drastically reduced marketing budget it had to play with in 2012. Who knows how the Wii U might have worked out had Japan coughed up.

This weekend, two hackers have revealed to the world their achievement, claiming to be able to update the bowels of the 3DS. Mr. Xcution has found a way to run an application on a personal machine, as can be seen against the image below. More interestingly, some Neimod would in turn bypassed the Zoning console via its kernel, which will delight lovers of import and many players frustrated by geographic restriction imposed by Nintendo yet. The hacker has not unveiled a method for accessing the control of the console with the ability to replicate this feat, simply stating that he had used a loophole in a game unearthed unidentified. In theory, this flaw promise to rezone more than just the machine.

Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Gates to Infinity is the first game in the spin-off series to arrive for 3DS, and will hit store and the eShop in US on March 24.
According to the blurb, "Become one of five popular Pokémon from the fan-favorite franchise - Pikachu, Snivy, Oshawott, Tepig or Axew - and journey through infinite dungeons, battle and befriend other Pokémon, collect treasures and explore the game's vast, beautiful world".Mystery Dungeon offers up randomly generated dungeons, with items and power ups that'll change location each time a player enters them. Pokémon, items and treasure within a Mystery Dungeon will change location every time a player re-enters.
In Gates to Infinity, players can gain access to additional Mystery Dungeons through 'Magnagates'. "To open the Magnagates, players scan circular objects in the real world using the Nintendo 3DS Camera, allowing them to continue their adventure, even after they have completed the main Mystery Dungeons" explains Nintendo.
The game, which released in Japan in November 2012, will also feature wireless multiplayer. A UK release is yet to be confirmed.

In less than two years the 3DS has sold more in Japan than the PS3 has in over six years.
According to Media Create (via Nintendo Life), Nintendo's latest portable sold 211,499 units between 3rd December and 9th December, bringing its cumulative total to a whopping 8,799,378. Conversely, the PS3 has only sold 8,716,260 units in Japan. This is especially impressive when one notes that the 3DS only came out in March of last year, whereas the PS3 debuted in November 2006.The 3DS's prime portable competitor, the Vita, has failed to catch on in Sony's homeland where it only shifted 11,039 units last week. Comparatively, its eight year old single analogue stick predecessor surpassed it with 19,637 units sold. The only platform to topple the 3DS last week was the Wii U, which moved 308,142 units between its Japanese launch on 8th December and the cut-off period for this week's report on the 9th.Below is the full chart on Japan's hardware sales last week. Lifetime sales are in parenthesis.

    • Nintendo Wii U - 308,142 (308,142)
