Intellivision Entertainment has this week announced the Intellivision Amico, inspired by the original 1979 console.
Joining Sony, Sega, and Nintendo in the retro hardware space, Intellivision Entertainment has reclaimed the formerly defunct brand in order to produce a modernised version of the classic console.
The Amico intends to capture the family market, offering a range of re-imagined and remade retro console games from Intellivision, Atari, and Imagic.
It will also include a host of classic titles such as Toejam and Earl, Miner 2049er, and Tropical Angel, along with brand new games, all exclusive to the Amico.
Priced between $149 and $179, the console is slated for release on October 10, 2020; it will only feature games that are rated E for Everyone, or E10+ and will not feature any "costly DLC" or in-app purchases.

Speaking over the weekend at Portland Retro Gaming Expo, Intellivision president Tommy Tallarico stressed the company's focus on accessibility and affordability.
"Most every game being made for the home consoles these days is created with only the hardcore gamer in mind," he said.
"We see a world where everyone is interested in playing at home and with friends... Our goal was to create a console that both gamers and non-gamers are able to have fun with and play together.

“We are happy with the progress we are making on Atari VCS and thrilled that fans finally have a chance to reserve the first ones,” said Michael Arzt, Atari COO of Connected Devices. “Atari VCS will give fans a lot of freedom to game, stream, connect and customize their experience like never before. The entire Atari team is working hard to deliver this unique platform and can't wait for fans to get their hands on it. We’ll have exciting reveals and announcements between now and then so stay tuned!”
Additionally, the Atari VCS platform will support 4K resolution, HDR and 60FPS content, onboard and expandable cloud storage options, dual-band WiFi and Bluetooth 5.0, as well as USB 3.0 support. Moreover the proprietary Atari VCS User Interface that the device packs integrates optional voice control and a web browser for full access to the internet.

A new Atari VCS launch video accompanied the announcement: (see the video below)

And what about games? Every Atari VCS comes with the Atari Vault collection of more than 100 classics like Asteroids, Centipede, Breakout, Missile Command, Gravitar and Yars’ Revenge. (see the video below)

And that's as much as we know for now but the team behind the Atari VCS previously said that "a growing list of games, especially a full range of popular modern titles, will be announced at later dates". Nevertheless, the Indiegogo campaign page is touting the device as a "gaming and home entertainment streaming device with open platform for creativity and customization". This might entice tinkerers as the platform runs on Linux and might evolve into a community investing in independent software development for the console.

However this revival of the Atari brand in the console market does not come cheap. The less pricey option is the Atari VCS Onyx priced at $199 USD (without controllers), and that for a limited time. Other options include extra controllers or even the $299 USD Indiegogo-exclusive Atari VCS Day One Collector’s Edition, also available only for a limited time. Nevertheless, there seem to be a lot of people interested in the product as its campaign has raised 1819% of its initial goal (over $1.8 million) at the time of writing, with a month left before the backing ends.

The Atari VCS has an expected delivery date of July 2019. But the big question is, do you like the 'specs.' posted above? And if so, will you pre-order one, or what until next year?

As an homage to the past, Atari VCS covers the classics with the included Atari Vault of more than 100 classic games, including all-time arcade and home entertainment favorites like Asteroids®, Centipede®, Breakout®, Missile Command®, Gravitar® and Yars' Revenge®; a growing list of games, especially a full range of popular modern titles, will be announced at later dates.

"We continue moving forward on the Atari VCS project and are excited to see this pre-sale kickoff and to share more updates with our fans as we look toward the first shipments," notes Michael Arzt, Atari COO of Connected Devices. "We are building outstanding teams and forging alliances that will make this product great and truly worthy of the Atari VCS name. Expert hardware partners are helping make this project possible and we couldn't be more pleased with their contributions."

Atari appreciates the community's intense curiosity about VCS games and content, hardware specifications, production timelines and other key information, and is confident that it is putting the right pieces in place for a successful product and launch.

For a handheld thats been gone for years heres a first time rom hack for the Atari Lynx:

Switchblade II is a platform game, originally released on the Commodore Amiga and Atari ST, with a cut-down port for the Atari Lynx, and now there’s a hack for it. The hack itself is quite simple - giving you the ability to continue from where you died, and giving you only one life at the start as a form of balance - but it’s notable for two reasons.
It’s the very first hack for the Atari Lynx on this site, and secondly, it was done without any debugging tools, save a memory viewer. The author identified the assembly instructions due to their similarity to other systems like the NES, and made educated guesses to achieve the desired effect.
It’s a game that many won’t be aware of, but now that this hack makes it somewhat easier to play, why not give it a try?

    3. Raspberry Pi

Ive been sat at home this Xmas, getting drunk as you do, eating way too much and watching a load of crap films on TV, but whilst going through Facebook one day I noticed what must have been a sponsored link to a site called Pixelarcades, having never seen it before and im trying to get back into the good old days of newsposting I had a good looksy.

Now I am really glad I did, the guys at Pixelarcades are from what I can see replacing the guts of the games consoles with I presume a raspberry pi board and some type of flash drive or hard drive and bundling it with roms and emulators.

Theres probably more to it than I know but if you want a PSX, Snes, N64, Dreamcast etc maxed out with games this is an awesome way to go about it, if you live in the UK you can even get your console converted and at the moment they are even buying consoles to be retro fitted.

They also sell pinball tables and arcade systems if you have the cash to buy them, some look like one off versions too. Cant fault them at all for the balls to do this, check them out here -> http://pixelarcades.co.uk/ and give me your comments. ...

For those who know me know ive been a fan of emulation for 20 years or more, the reason i started a videogames website was purely because i like to play emulators of old consoles on a single device.

Recently the homebrew/emulation scene has been stagnant, no real breakthroughs means that the best way is to buy a device that is made for emulation fans like myself, i reviewed the JXD S7300 Android Tablet and for a fan like me i loved it. The Android tablet was for me perfect, the mixing of old style controls and touchscreen inside an Android OS and with Gamecenter X you could download games onto your console with no messing around, the console/tablet game with Android/N64/Megadrive/Arcade/GBA and Nes Emulators with games built in, beyond awesome.

But JXD since then have brought out a new and improved JXD S7800b Gaming Tablet which features PS1, MAME, Dreamcast, N64, NeoGeo, Atari, NES, SNES, Gameboy, Gameboy Colour, Gameboy Advance, SEGA Master System, SEGA Mega Drive, CPS1, CPS2, Amiga, Commodore 64, ZX Spectrum Emulation to name just a few, am i salivating ?, hell yes.

    The JXD S7800b Gaming Tablet has a 7" 1280x800 IPS 5 Point Multi-Touch Capacitive Screen, RockChip RK3188 QuadCore 1.8GHz CPU - 2GB DDR3 RAM - 8GB Memory, Network Wi-Fi(802.11 b/g/n), External Ethernet,3G with Dongle and runs Android 4.2.2 Jellybean OS.

So this Android Tablet runs one of the latest versions of the Android OS plus comes built in with all them emulators and you can do what you would expect from a normal Android Tablet.

If i can snag one for review ill put it through its paces but for now check out the JXD S7800B at Funstock in the UK

Those who didn't grab Capcom 30th Anniversary Character Encyclopedia at its New York Comic Con debut can breathe a sigh of relief: If you've got $11, you can now grab a copy at Amazon.

For that money (less than half of what the book was going for at Comic Con), you'll receive a 208-page, full-color, hardcover tome filled with artwork and character profiles drawn from the last 30 years of Capcom games. Obviously you'll see Ryu, Mega Man and Capcom's other poster children among the 200 characters detailed in the book, but there are also more esoteric entries which exist purely to fill in minor bits of backstory and to give devoted Capcom geeks a wry smile of vague recognition.

You can find more information on the Encyclopedia at Capcom Unity, but please ignore the part about an Amazon Prime discount. Whether you're a member of that service or not, the Encyclopedia will set you back $10.39.

The License and Distribution Agreement between TOMMO Inc. and SNK Playmore involving production of the Neo Geo X Gold line of products was "terminated" on October 2, a statement on SNK's site revealed this week.

The post describes SNK's demand that TOMMO "immediately cease any and all manufacturing, distribution, marketing and promotion" of the Neo Geo X Gold and its line of Neo Geo X Classic games. SNK has also demanded that TOMMO cease sales of the SNK Neo Geo X Arcade Stick and that they remove it from the shelves of both physical and digital shopfronts.

Despite SNK's statement, the Neo Geo X Gold line of products is still availablefor purchase at some retailers at the time of this writing.
