• March 2013 - DCEmu Turns 9 Years Old and Still Going Strong

Its Now March 2013 and DCEmu the Homebrew & Gaming Network is now 9 Years old. I actually started the sites back in 2002 but joined them under the DCEmu name back in 2004 when the site was foremost a Dreamcast Site, since then we have expanded and cover all homebrew scenes as new consoles come into play. To make sure the site gets back to what it does best i have merged the discussion forums and unmerged all the news forums, which for everyone makes for a better reading experiance, no one wants to search for PS2 news on a PS3 merged news forum because it takes ages to find it. Also this month we have launched new sites for PS4, GCW Zero and also an Open Source Handhelds website. Thanks for visiting DCEmu and please join in the discussion and remember if you are a coder then you can upload to our forum instead of using crappy internet upload sites.

Old PS One games now available on touch-screen phone

The PlayStation digital games portal is now available on Sony’s Xperia Play S smartphone, with a range of old PS One titles on sale at launch.
Those that own the buttonless Sony mobile will need to download the PS Store app directly.

Sony is embarking on a operation to expand its games service beyond traditional games devices. Various ‘PlayStation Certified’ games are already on the Sony Tablet S, which also uses the Android operating system.
Meanwhile, it is expected the platform holder will soon approach indie studios about its PlayStation Suite development framework, which allows game builds to be deployed on both Android and PlayStation game hardware.
The first wave of PS Store games on Xperia Play S are priced at £3.99 each in the UK.

All about 'connected experience' for Ericsson-less handset maker.
The Xperia P and Xperia U join the Xperia S in the Xperia NXT series, which is Sony's family of next generation smartphones.
As before, the new devices come bundled with the film and music streaming services, Video Unlimited and Music Unlimited, and are designed to work with the related offerings on TV and PC.
Both Android phones have design features including the "transparent element" – a band that encircles the base of the phone and also integrates invisible antenna components.
It illuminates when receiving calls, texts and notifications.
The pair also boast Reality Display powered by Mobile BRAVIA display engine and 1 GHz dual-core processors

Smartphones and tablets could have access to classic Sony games.
Sony's certification will provide HTC with permission to introduce the PlayStation back-catalogue of games to all of its device users, according to Pocket-lint.
It's a questionable move, considering that Sony split from Ericsson to spread its wings in the smartphone market by delivering a more integrated hardware and software experience.
Sharing its gaming platform with a rival will mean relinquishing a would-be USP for Sony.
The report cites sources that claim an official announcement will take place at MWC, however HTC said it would not "comment on rumours or speculation."
Sony (then Sony Ericsson) launched the The Xperia Play last spring as its first PlayStation phone. The device featured PlayStation-branded buttons, a flip-screen and links to the PlayStation Suite platform, which allows gamers to download PSone and Android software.

Sony Ericsson has seen its status slip from fourth/fifth biggest OEM in the world to the ninth.
It was hoping an focus on Android would turn its fortunes around, but that switch didn't make too much difference as the Xperia range failed to match sales of rivals like Galaxy and Desire.
Ahead of its rebranding that will see future handsets drop the 'Ericsson' moniker, the company has reported a pre-tax loss of €247m for Q4 2011. The company said it shipped just 9m units in the fourth quarter, down 20 per cent on last year.

Cloud gaming service OnLive has updated its free app for Android devices to support Xperia Play's slide-out controls.
The move enables gameplay of almost all OnLive titles, and makes Xperia Play the first mobile device to play console-performance games using in-built controls."From the moment we launched our OnLive Android app, gamers began asking about Sony Ericsson Xperia Play game control support," said OnLive CEO Steve Perlman. "We listened and delivered.
"Now Xperia Play gamers in the US and UK can play almost all of OnLive's 200 premium titles-including hit AAA games like Saints Row: The Third and Assassin's Creed: Revelations-on their Xperia Play smartphone with a full console-class experience, including multiplayer and social features."
Other Android tablet and smartphone owners can play OnLive demos of 24 games, such as Dirt 3 and Defense Grid Gold, which have been either redesigned with native touch controls or include various virtual gamepads on-screen. Alternatively, they can play nearly every game in OnLive's library using the recently released OnLive Wireless Controller.

Storage platform looks to add to its 8m individual users and 100,000 businesses.
Sony Ericsson says the promotion will allow Xperia users to stash their digital hordes of photos, music and videos on the Box service.
By logging into a Box account through the app, which can be found in the Android Marketplace, users can enjoy free cloud storage and file sharing for life.
The global offer begins today for anyone with an Xperia X10 smartphone or newer, and runs up until December 31st 2012.
Steve Walker, chief marketing officer, Sony Ericsson, said: "Xperia and Box will provide consumers with access to a massive amount of content on the go putting their smartphone at the very heart of their connected lifestyle."
Presumably, Sony Ericsson's main reason for the partnership is that it will be hoping to see devices fly off shelves for Christmas gifts and during the January sales period.

Why Sony chose to sit on this one, we have no idea, but the company just revealed that its software update for the 2011 lineup of Xperia phones -- which was released last month -- also adds browser support for WebGL. This means that if you're holding an Xperia Arc, Mini, Neo, Play, Ray... or any other of its most recent handsets, then there's a good chance you're wielding one of the first Android phones to support this modern graphics platform. Designed to bring advanced visuals and gaming to the web, the API holds roots in JavaScript and has been used to develop everything from Angry Birds to far-outmusic videos. Sony Ericsson first previewed its WebGL efforts back in February, and after all these months, its official arrival is a welcome one, indeed.

The Ice Cream Sandwich announcements keep dribbling in this morning, with the latest morsel coming from Sony Ericsson Italy. In a Facebook post published last week, the company's Italian outpost confirmed that its Xperia line will receive an upgrade to Android 4.0 sometime next year. Head of marketing Maurizio de Palma clarified this declaration in a follow-up post, adding that the update should "arrive by March." That's certainly more specific than anything the company has announced thus far, though we'll obviously have to wait and see whether this timeline holds up.

This year, you say, you're not going to watch retailer websites all Thanksgiving weekend for deals; you're not going to give in and drive to a store at midnight for cheap games. Walmart is the first to try to convince you otherwise, posting its Black Friday circular with discounts and exclusive offers it hopes will bring you back on the most dangerous shopping day of the year.

For $199, you have a choice of console bundles: an Xbox 360 4GB with Gears 3, 3 months of Live, and a $50 gift card; an Xbox 360 4GB with Kinect, Kinect Adventures, and a $50 gift card; or a 160GB PS3 with Ratchet & Clank All 4 One, LittleBigPlanet 2, and 3 months of Plus membership.

The blue Wii, announced in Europe as a Mario & Sonic bundle, will be released in America exclusively to Walmart ... at the crazy low price of $100.

If you're already set for systems, Walmart is also offering limited-time deals on games. From Thanksgiving night at 10pm through Friday, you can get recent releases like Batman: Arkham City, Battlefield 3, Gears of War 3, Infamous 2, and Call of Duty: Black Ops for $28. Dance Central 2, Kinect Sports Season Two, and Epic Mickey (among others) are $15. You can also get Yakuza 4 for ten damn dollars -- plus the cost of having to fight for your life at Walmart.
