Thanks to the concerted efforts of numerous PS3 developers, PS3HEN has been receiving numerous updates which are making noCFW PS3s (Late Slim/Super Slim) closer to CFW-compatible PS3s functionality-wise. This time, PS3HEN got another update bringing it up to version 2.2.1 which comes with PSP ISO Launcher support, improved compatibility with multiMAN and a lot of other things!

PS3HEN 2.2.1, which was released a few hours ago, is a pretty significant update and it brings about a lot of new features including:

    • PSP ISO Launcher support which means that you can play games by just copying them over rather than having to rely on PKGs (Remasters/Minis)
Now, you can play PSP games like “Adventures Of Gurumin” on your PS3HEN-ed PS3 by simply copying over the ISO. Make sure to check the compatibility list first though!

    • Compatibility with programs such as multiMAN, and others which replace syscall 6-10, has been improved
    • The stackframe and PS3HEN bin files have been merged into one file named PS3HEN.BIN
    • The in-game screenshot feature has now been enabled
    • You now get a notification with the PS3HEN version currently installed when you boot up your PS3
    • On-the-fly PS2 Classics Launcher activation
    • Self Threading support which fixes issues with some games like Splinter Cell Trilogy
    • A HEN installer feature has been added and some appearance changes
    • Numerous fixes and improvements relating to memory management, kernel plugins larger than 64KB are now supported and some technical improvements like a fail-safe for stage0 if stage2 isn’t found among other things detailed in the link below

In order to install this updated version of PS3HEN and make use of the new features, you can update through the HEN Updater found in Network->Hybrid Firmware Tools->PS3HEN Updater->Update PS3HEN which takes care of the updating for you as long as you’re connected to the internet. If you don’t have PS3HEN installed, you have to follow the installation instructions found in the link below

Huge news for nonCFW compatible PS3 Models (SuperSlims and late Slim Models) as anonymous developer's have dropped a huge bombshell with the release of PS3HEN. Just recently we seen the release of HFW (Hybrid Firmware) for the PS3, proving once again that the development scene is still alive and kicking to bring a new window of exploration to 4.84 by bringing back a patched webkit (from 4.82) in a rather clever approach. Which restored the PS3Xploit Tools for 4.84 for both Custom Firmware Compatible Models (for CFW installs) and for nonCFW models that utilized the less powerful etHANel (aka HAN) exploit that with today's news will be an obsolete hack with the emergence of the PlayStation3 first HEN or otherwise known as a Homebrew ENabler. So, yes that means SuperSlim Console's and late Slims PS3 Models (aka nonCFW models) can now FINALLY enjoy PS3 Homebrew at last, but that is not all this PS3HEN release brings to the table. As there is a number of CFW patches / features that come along for the ride as well, while not on quite par with CFW functionality completely it does provide a number of functions that is very exciting and very close to a CFW experience (especially with homebrew support)..Some additional features include things like Boot-Plugin Support, BDISO Support, Cinavia patches are just a few of the features/patches you can see outlined in the release notes... ...

    1. Never say its impossible, as now the impossible dream of having latest homebrew and (cough) other goodies on the PlayStation 3 SuperSlim console running the latest v4.84 firmware is now possible as an 'anonymous' developer has release PS3HEN v1.00 into the wild, to lay 'cracked' eggs for your Sony gaming breakfast!
      What is HEN?:
      • HEN stands for Homebrew ENabler. it also consists of many more new functions relatively close to a Custom Firmware (CFW)

      How does it work?:

      • Use HAN Installer. Copy PS3HEN.BIN, HENTAI.pkg and stackframe.bin to /dev_usb000 and run the HTML.
      • Once done, go to Package Manager (on XMB) and install the HENTAI.pkg and reboot console
      • From now on to enable HEN simply use usb000 stackframe.bin and PS3HEN.BIN and run html...HEN ENABLED!

      FEATURES (as of v1.00):

      • ManaGunz backup manager works best for jb rips(ISO not supported)!
      • MULTIMAN works too but compatibility is not the same.
      • PSXISO Support is there!!!!
      • BD/DVD Region patches
      • BDISO support(stutter with xmb, use showtime)
      • BOOT-PLUGINS WORK location "/dev_usb000/boot_plugins_nocobra.txt"(Use webman original one and not the mod one. also disable content scan on boot in settings)
      • Discless games work with disc icon!
      • Syscall 6 added
      • Syscall 7 added (address>0x8000000000352230) and disabled overwriting syscall 0->15
      • Syscall 15 added
      • Syscall 8 opcodes added for detection HEN and for advanced lv2 poke(read DEVELOPER SECTION (next tab))
      • Whole kernel memory RWX (execute kernel payload like this at high locations or hook syscalls etc)
      • PS3MAPI support for modding
      • Debug PKG install
      • Homebrew resigned for 3.55 and less support!
      • Homebrew Root Flags enabled!
      • HAN PKG insall support

      • videoplayer_plugin
      • DVD region check (not cracking RCE)
      • REBUG themed RCO & XML
      • AIO copy

      • if you get error 80010017 launching homebrew that simply means HEN failure, restart console and try again!(restart is important!)
      • also try deleting cache, browsing data, cookies and the likes from browser, make the exploit page the home page

      • #define SYSCALL8_OPCODE_IS_HEN 0x1337
      • using this if return 0x1337 its hen
      • ADVANCED POKE:syscall8(0x7003, addr, value);
      • this allows poking any location in lv2 memory BUT you have to restore original value before exiting to another application or exiting to xmb.USE WISELY OTHERWISE PS3 SHUTS DOWN
      • BDMIRROR:Managunz FTW!(please use Cobra payload because by default its MULTIMAN)
      • NOTE:mounting dev_blind will actually mount dev_flash. change files directly from dev_flash instead or hdd0/plugins/CFW/
      • Kernel Mode returns 0x53434500 on success to user webkit 0x8a000000. its good to measure HEN success. right now hen is already close to or is 100%

Today, we proudly present the very first modified OFW that can be installed on all PS3 models.
(NOTE: THIS IS NOT A FULL BLOWN CFW, HOWEVER IT Allows you to run the patched webkit exploit that's ported to 4.84).

Yes, you didn't hear wrong, it can be installed over ALL OFW versions on ALL PS3 models (OFW 4.83, 4.84 , CECH-3XXX, CECH-4XXX and etc.). We wanted this to be called "HHHFW" since it was Hybrid, Hack-able, HAN ready also inspired by @habib but let's call it HFW since this is Hybrid FW (Well you can call this MFW).

The idea was reminded by some guy who didn't want to be annoying but actually ended up being helpful. Habib had this idea long time ago but the previous attempt was not successful due to lack of interest and preparation. As you all know, I recently started messing with my PS3 again and this idea was brought back.

So then I went ahead and tried his magical idea.... after a few hours later... Boom!!, now we have HFW that works on all PS3 models (including 3K and 4K) that allows the previously patched exploit by using old webkit from 4.50 that's been used until 4.83. This method is rather hacky than technical, so I would like to leave this method under the radar for now until it gets patched out (this can easily be patched).

What can you do with this HFW 4.84.1/2?
1.You can use PSN since the FW is the latest.
2.You can downgrade/Install CFW on your PS3 if your model is downgrade-able/hack-able (excluding CECH-3K and 4K)
(The same capability as what you had for 4.82 OFW)
3.You can use HAN and all the tools that worked up to 4.82 with this FW.
4.You can always go back to the real OFW 4.84 if you wish.
To all scener's and developers: Please update the HAN toolbox or any xml that can support 4.84 if anyone's available.

    Special thanks @habib @bguerville @esc0rtd3w @Doge_Rules @DeViL303 @littlebalup

Sony have released firmware 4.84 for PS3. There seems to be doubt regarding what this update actually does, so going with Sandungas post over at on this one: 'I guess we can nickname 4.84 as 'the valentine's day' update. Changelog: Additionally to the usual system stability this update improves love. A rainbow with unicorns has been added to the theme settings.'. I have updated the Ps3OsRels wiki as usual where the updates also can be downloaded (or at least could be at one point). This time there was an incremental update (PS3PATCH.PUP). In related news, Evilnat has released our beloved mitigation for boring stability updates, namely SEN Enabler v6.2.1. There is more new console stuff to leech in the download section if you feel like it, have a good weekend, love is in the air.

Those with hacked consoles keep away:

    • Even tho, PlayStation 3 console is basically 'end-of-line', Sony is still rolling out 'support' for it, and in this case, their new v4.83 firmware is well an 'stability patch' as usual which to us Scene Ponies it really means, watch out Sony is pulling us free horses back into the stables to be retrained to be good consumers and not greedy pirates or free-range homebrew'ers, in other words: DO NOT UPDATE!
After a look at the update files & preliminary tests, I am afraid I am bearing some bad news for HAN users playing online.
      1. It would appear that s@ny patched one of the 2 webkit exploits we currently use to trigger ROP chains.
It means that we need to replace this exploit in order to get any ps3xploit tool working on 4.83. Work is already under way, obviously no ETA at this stage. Please don't ask.
      2. The kernel is completely untouched. No changes to either lv1 or lv2 which means CFWs will be easier to make. That's also good news for devs with any promising kernel vulnerability under investigation.
      3. Changes were made to vsh as usual & they seem extensive enough to suspect that they may have patched the HAN vulnerability as well. We have not yet had time to look into the matter at all but if they did, HAN might be gone for good past 4.82, leaving only CFW2OFW conversions installable & runnable on 4.83 whenever the patched webkit exploit gets replaced.

In conclusion, the changes brought by the 4.83 update mean that anyone updating will lose usage of HAN, and possibly permanently until a kernel exploit comes out. Cfw2ofw conversions will be the only installed games that will still be working after updating.

The nature of this update is upsetting our 4.0 release plans somewhat

The above notes are from the famous PS3XPLOIT team that was able to last 'xmas make softmod'ing our newer PS3's finally possible, but it looks like evil big crab is slowly catching up and now basically blocked all known loopholes, but never fear, they are hard at work digging around looking for new HAN entry points, in the meantime it can't be stressed enough: DO NOT UPDATE!

Heres another release for the PS3 Hacking scene:

Evilnat his very popular PS3 utility SEN Enabler with support for the latest CFW firmwares and updates:
    Improvements v6.0.8

    • Updated Cobra data
    • Added support for CFW Rebug 4.82 D-REX

Remember to use Charles Proxy now along with SEN Enabler and block three URLs (you can add more if you want), this software will minimize ban risk, but a ban is not 100% avoided on CFW. Block all these URLs on Charles or similar:

The awesome multi system supporting emulator has a new release, heres what systems this release is for starting with PC, Apple Mac, Android, IOS, Playstation 3, Playstation Portable, PSVita, Xbox Original, Gamecube, Wii, Wii U, Nintendo 3DS and Raspberry PI:

RetroArch 1.7.3 has just been released! Grab it here. This latest version has also been uploaded to the Google Play Store. If you’d like to show your support, consider donating to the team. Check here in order to learn more.
RetroArch now has a WIMP GUI, powered by the powerful multimedia framework Qt! This feature is available currently for Windows and Linux. macOS users will have to wait a while longer for this feature to arrive to their platform.

The WIMP GUI works as a companion to the main RetroArch window. You bring it into view by pressing the F5 key on your keyboard. From there, you can do many tasks:

    • Select a game from any playlist
    • Browse the file system or any attached media storage device and load a game.
    • Scan directories for content and generate system playlists.
    • Associate cores to an entire playlist or associate only one entry of a playlist to a specific core

Some things we’d like to note:

    • This has been the combined work of bparker and Tatsuya79 that have worked tirelessly on this for a month. We are aware of several features that we’d like to implement, such as playlist editing, grid view layouts, etc.
    • We are open to feedback on the GUI.
    • You will likely not see this WIMP GUI on Android or iOS (or any game console for that fact) anytime soon. WIMP interfaces don’t lend themselves well to devices that rely on touchscreen or gamepad-based controls.
    • (For Linux users) The Qt GUI should definitely work on X11. If you’d like to run it on Wayland, make sure you have the appropriate packages installed for Qt5 in your package manager. Be aware that Qt 5 cannot gracefully fail right now in case a platform module/plugin is missing from your system. This means that if you invoke the companion UI by pressing F5 on Wayland, and for whatever reason the platform module that Qt relies on in order to work on Wayland is not there, there is no way for RetroArch to gracefully fail there and just not show the companion UI. There will be a crash instead. Unfortunately we have talked to some Qt developers and they see no other way around this for now. The same situation applies for DRM/KMS right now. If we can find a better solution to this, we will certainly return to it.
    • (For mac Users) You will have to wait a bit longer for this to arrive to the Mac port unfortunately. Hopefully that wait is not too long.
    • We would like to still improve initial bootup times for the companion UI. Right now, on first initial startup, it can take anywhere from 5 to 10 seconds (depending on your harddrive and its performance), but on subsequent boots should only take 2 seconds or less for first startup. Hopefully by resorting to Link Time Code Generation and other avenues we can shave off some more seconds off this boot time.
