3DS retained the top spot on the Japanese hardware chart during the week ended March 30.
Sales of Nintendo's portable jumped more than 50 per cent in the final week of the month, ensuring it comfortably held off competition from its nearest rival, Vita.
Japan increased its sales tax from five per cent to eight per cent on April 1, Nintendo Life reports, marking the first rise in 17 years, according to the BBC. This may explain the increase in sales of all hardware platforms (bar PS4) last week, as consumers rushed to purchase expensive items before the start of the month.
The Vita version of Hatsune Miku: Project Diva F 2nd debuted at No.1 on the software chart with just shy of 100,000 sales, while the PS3 edition of Sega's rhythm game came in at No.3.
Sandwiched between the pair was the previous week's bestseller, Mario Party Island Tour, according to data from retail monitor Media Create, which was republished on NeoGAF.
Weekly software sales / lifetime

Mario Party: Island Tour (3DS, Nintendo) - 78.098 / 210.767
