The 14-year wait for Shenmue fans has been a long one, but finally there is some (very early) in-game footage of Shenmue 3.
The project is approaching its final two days on Kickstarter. It currently stands at $4,972,983, meaning it has every chance of hitting the $5m village expansion and character perspective system stretch goal.
However, it now looks certain to fall short of at least 13 of the 14 subsequent stretch goals, and will almost certainly not hitthe $10m creator Yu Suzuki was targeting – although the developer later downplayed this target.
"We have come to the final three days of the Shenmue 3 Kickstarter! Your support and encouragement alone have already made this project a huge success. Thank you," the Kickstarter campaign page said.
"But we are not finished yet! It is our pleasure to announce the new scene from Shenmue 3! It is still a work in progress, but Yu Suzuki has sent it with loving care and hopes it will be all that the fans of the series have come to love, and will show those new to the game some of the wonder and magic they can expect from the continually unfolding world of Shenmue."
Shenmue 3 was announced during the Sony E3 press conference. It hit its $2m goal after just 12 hours on Kickstarter, breaking a record in the process, although funding progress has since slowed considerably.
