Sony is preparing to release its next dose of PSP firmware, hoping to combat the latest hacker victory, which allows PSP owners to downgrade their v2.00 systems to v1.50. A spokesman for Sony commented, “We plan to deal with this issue with the next system update.” While Sony has not specified a release date for their next firmware upgrade, the company will most certainly enforce it with the wave of upcoming holiday titles—starting, perhaps, with GTA: LCS. And for those of you hoping the next upgrade will include a host of new features, don’t count on it, v2.01 (or whatever it will be called) will likely be quick and dirty tidy.

hah! ahahahaaaa! let them *try*. tee hee hee. it feels good to be 1.5
about half way tru playing super metroid for the 4th time already(edit: thats the 4th time in total, not just psp :P). its a perfect game for the psp really. 2.1? no thx
I will keep my 1.5 forever as seeing as I have 2 psp's i hope that a firmware trick will work for that lame upgrade!!!!
Sony-Your stupid system will always get hacked somehow no system is EVER Perfect why do you all think windows is constantly updated? Macs? The Gameboy Releases? There is always something to fix or improve upon in life and sony is just being a big *** in a bag. . .
I guess I am still scratching my head over why Sony cares if we play Pong,Tetris, or Sega games on the PSP. Are they liable in any way for their unit running roms? It's not going to keep us from buying UMD games... or movies.
I just don't understand the overt hostility towards developers... especially since no one has taken away ANY of their profits.
well its mostly coz ppl burn teh umds on the comp and launch them in 1.5
I see. Maybe they should better protect their UMD's then from piracy instead of taking the wind of out homebrew developers.
Just like mp3's the entertainment industry is blind when it comes to a major money making opportunity basically staring them in the face. If they would embrace this, and market it properly, they could potentially attract a whole new demographic for their product.
It will take something like the scope of the iPod in the portable gaming world to make everyone who is in the ivory towers understand that having the capability for user side development is good.
wish someone from sony could read this. Well if they make newer games etc with verion 2.00+ then ppl with 1.5 will most likely download the ISO cos they know it wont run on there 1.5, which in my opinion is stupid. if all games ran on any firmware then likes of me with 1.5 could go out and buy it which i hopefully but dont wanna upgrade from 1.5 = sony loose alot of money. there tryin to get new users to not be able to play "homebrew" and dont give a fuk about lower firmware users, forcing them to upgrade for a game or 2, this will only encourage hackers to make firmware changer and ISO loaders even more.
game which works for all firmwares would probably sell more than ones that only work on 2.01 etc. if it came down to it i would get the ISO of GTA if it meant me to upgrade to 2.xx ( only cos it wouldnt work = gay = sony omg use ya brains )
DO NOT, for one second, believe that the Sony PSP is for your convienence. It IS for profit. Otherwise, sony would not have hesitated to stamp your precious homebrew apps out. Sony is making plenty of money from your purchasing their overpriced system, games, movies, and even their accessories. The largest threat against them is the piracy of their games for the PSP, but thats no reason to stamp homebrew creativity. They should just have created better security on their UMDs, not the overall system (firmware). Haven't they heard of data encryption? And if they are really listening to their customers, why oh why don't they create a legitamate way of creating applications besides forcibly making programmers use their 'patented' UMDs to make them? I will stay at 1.50 from now on, thank you very much!

I agree with Cirus
umm than why in the hell would we buy it? So my neighbor could play it???DO NOT, for one second, believe that the Sony PSP is for your convienence
To the previous poster-No disrespect man but hes right! lets use the memory sticks for example ok the 2GB is sooooo expensive to most of us right?
But would you buy (money and PROFIT) if the price was lowered? If you say no to this question than your crazy. . .yes of course you would!
Now lets go back into sonys situation-Ok, people have cracked the new 2.0 and found a leak that could lead to running ISOS ok if we have cracked 1.00, 1.5, and 2.0 we can obviously find a leak in 1.51 and 1.52. So basically if sony creates a 2.20 or 2.40 or whatever the hell dont you think WE WILL CRACK that and what do you know? History repeats itself and there is no such thing as an uncrackable system. Take security cameras also as another example; which is a form of security, they have a downfall they have a blindspot!
Every system has a leak!!!!!
Now if sony said hey, why dont we stop with these upgrades to firmwares even though we may dislike it because people would steal our pirated games and let them enjoy there emus and games and ATTRACT MORE CUSTOMERS. If you heard sony stopped these updates what would you think? Most likely "omg sony thats awesome i will so stop pirating games now because none of them have updates which FORCE ME TO PIRATE THEM.) but now people are hearing they have a new update which stops homebrew and isos that just makes you hate sony even more. I know a lot of psp users that dont even know about the psp scene. There being stupid japs about this its ridiculous. . . .This isn't just to you man (no offence or anything. . .) its to EVERYONE
