psp Sony upset with third-party PSP support

    via Eurogamer

Sony Worldwide Studios boss Shuhei Yoshida is disappointed at the lack of third-party support for the PSP.

He pointed to first-party games such as God of War: Chains of Olympus, Buzz! Brain Bender and Resistance Retribution as examples of strong, existing IP that had been manipulated for PSP - something he's disappointed third-parties are not emulating.

"What we'd like to see more is for third-parties also - there is so much great IP that they have," Yoshida told IGN.

"It's really, really disappointing, and it's a lost opportunity for the third-parties. They should look at what the PSP can do for their titles and the potential for the business that their IP has."

Yoshida promised Sony has "many more" unannounced PSP games planned for next year, and said leading by example was the best way to get third-parties involved.

Capcom's Japanese Monster Hunter phenomena was used as an example, whereby developers and publishers could visibly see groups of friends playing the game in public places.

Perhaps the PSP-3000, with its brighter, more colourful screen, will prompt more activity when it launches here in mid-October.

The first PSP-3000 bundle will arrive in the UK on 17th October and cost GBP 149.99. Contents, bizarrely, are yet to be confirmed.

This is true. I bet some developers who gave up on the PSP a year ago or limited support are wishing they had stuck with it. Its only gaining popularity and with the 3000, the PSP is a very attractive device to release a GOOD game for.

For as long as the psp 3000 remains unhacked we will have a chance of getting some decent third party games... but as soon as people don't need to pay then the games will start to dry up again, but at least us with 1000 & 2000's will get the benefit from it

Perhaps Sony should start looking at the homebrew scene for some help lol. It'd be so cool if they could get some free games/apps to download made by users a-la-itunes. One can dream…

I was upset long time ago, join the club
But it is good to se they're taking the matter in their own hands, hope they continue doing so, anyway this is the console that feeds them as the ps3 is not doing that good

    Well, thats good.
Shows you cant always rely on 3rd parties, just look at how Nintendo has stayed strong with or without them all along

well lets not look at nintendo, they have legions of fans, and as long as they keep bringing out new and exciting titles with their same old charters people will buy it

a good example of what happens without 3rd party support, is basicly every single other video game console to fail, prime example # 1 the saturn, for all the reasons no one wanted to touch it, the total lack of 3rd party support is really what killed it

sony needs 3rd party support, they are not nintendo

I remember sony did do that once with the ps1... they set a kind of competition where amateur programmers created games that were then given away free with the official playstation magazine, and a few of those games were then given better graphics and sony ended up selling them

    couldn't agree more.
    Bite-size homebrew is like a lucky-dip,
downloads quickly, and complements UMD games very nicely.
It'd be great to see an unsigned software page on PSN.
