How do you stop the R button from making the menu appear? (GameCube version)

    (Example)
When playing Lufia 2, when I would cast a spell and press the R button so it would hit all the enemies, the menu pops up. (However, after exiting the menu the multiple targets were selected.)

I'm hitting the same issue... I'm using a retroport adapter to convert my SNES original controller into the gamecube plug for the wii.

The emulator recognizes all the keys on the snes controller just fine, and when I press the R key the game consumes the keypress correctly. But then the emulator menu shows up immediately afterward.

It's not just the R key either; some other keys also cause the menu to appear. Conversely, the A key does not.
