Rev Wii Classic Controller Pro Finally Hitting US This Spring

The Classic Controller Pro for Wii has been available in Japan for some time already, but it's making its way to these here parts this April.

The controller looks like it came from the PS2 factory, and it won't plug directly directly into your Wii. Instead, you have to plug it into your Wii Remote, which isn't that much of a hassle. It'll ship with Monster Hunter Tri, but will also be sold separately for $20.

Having it plug into the wiimote rather then the console is nothing new (the current Classic Controllers function the same way). The shoulder buttons seem nice to me then the layout on the current regular classic controller and the side handles probable makes it more comfortable to hold. Still its hard to get especially excited about it. It is just an ever so slightly differently shaped version of an old controller and for anyone that really wanted it that way plastic cases have been available for a long time that you could snap a classic controller into to give it a shape more like that.

What would have been cool is if they put bluetooth into it and had it function as its own independent wiimote so you wouldn't need to plug it into anything.

It's also wider (and allegedly a bit heavier), with the shoulder buttons arranged in a scheme that's been standardized for well over fifteen years.

At any rate, the $20 pricepoint makes it solely an issue of personal preference.
