Rev Wii, not Xbox 360, may have prompted PS3 price cut in Japan

Heres some spiel from an analyst at Toms Hardware:

The fact that even the PS2 outsells the Xbox 360 by a factor of 20:1 raises the question why Sony would be concerned about the PS3's value against the Xbox 360. Chris Crotty, senior analyst for consumer electronics at Isuppli, believes that Sony in fact may not be worried about the Xbox 360 and its newly announced HD DVD drive, but much more about the Nintendo Wii.

"I am wondering if this announcement has more to do with Wii and how strong the console will be in Japan," Crotty told TG Daily. "It could be an indication that Sony feels less confident about its content." Cutting the price of the console could increase the value proposition of the offering and may make the PS3 more attractive. "If you look at the controller and some of the content you see some unique features and it is much easier to develop content for the Wii than the PS3," Crotty said.

I dont blame Sony for being worried, Nintendo seems to be outselling them on all the new products atm, and there has been a bigger buzz about the Wii then their has about the PS3.

I Personally will NOT be buying a PS3 but that is only due to the fact that the price probably wont drop here in Australia

O_O Are you serious? $599.99 instead of $600?! That's 1ยข savings, that I can pass onto my IRA and save for retirement.

Hell yes. I will not be buying a PS3 on opening day. Standing in the cold, for hours on end, in the hopes of possibly, maybe, if I'm lucky, getting a PS3 so I can play one of their few, sucky PS3 launch games. ^.^

    Go savings!

I think i read somewhere that only the core is being dropped in price, not the super ps3.

    Super is still $600
    Core is now $430
