Nintendo gave Wii U's western prospects a further shot in the arm this afternoon with the announcement that Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate will be released simultaneously for Wii U and 3DS in March.
The news was revealed during this afternoon's Nintendo Direct broadcast, hosted by the company's European president Satoru Shibata. Capcom's Ryozo Tsujimoto appeared on screen to reveal the game and the compatibility between the two versions.
Save files will be transferrable between Wii U and 3DS, and while there is no cross-platform multiplayer, those on Wii U will be able to play with 3DS players who are connected to the same wireless network.
The announcement might have been overshadowed by the surprise revelation of the Wii U exclusive Bayonetta 2, but both show that Nintendo is serious about appealing to core gamers who felt short-changed by Wii's family-friendly focus.
It's been a busy day for Nintendo news, with announcements of release dates in Japan, Europe and the US, the Wii U launch line-up and more besides.
