    Rev New Wii Consoles Unmoddable

Those of you wishing to mod their Wii Consoles will want to hurry and buy one as new Wii`s in Japan are now shipping with motherboard changes. This change will stop all the present modchips from being able to work on the Nintendo Wii.

Heres what hacken forums let us know:

It is a latest news from a shop in 188. The latest lots of Wii NTSC-J can't be modded. Why? It's because 3-pins are physically cut from a surface-mounted IC. There are still some Wii NTSC-J unaffected in 188 and Golden, but price will go up soon once this news spreads out and everyone is struggling to be the last one to have it. So hurry if you have not gotten one yourself yet. Of course, if you only play legitimate games, then it doesn't bother you anyway.

Luckily, Wii NTSC-U is not affected yet.

    Heres a screen:

Hi. I already have a Nintendo Wii, but I don't know where I can get it modded.
Also, what does it do? Can you turn it multiregion by modding it?

You can mod it in your kitchen with some very basic soldering skills.

Since there's a bunch of modchops, you should read the features of each and decide which you want. That'll tell you what each does.

so, they shear the legs off at the edge of the chip? i'm sure there is some sort of work around for it, i've seen people solder to smaller stuff than that. i guess the heat would produce a problem when trying to not burn out the chip, but they will think of something. [:

Well luckily it's only for NTSC-J Wii consoles at the moment. I hope they will not do it for America and Europe.

Well JKK i would imagine they will do it to every console if it works.

They will try and stop piracy anyway possible.

I don't think piracy is doing a big problem. Software sales for the Wii are excellent actually.

Well, getting accurate numbers for revenue lost due to piracy is extremely difficult for obvious reasons. Just because it's assumed that it's "not a big problem" doesn't mean that Nintendo doesn't want to limit it, especially if they can do so at a very low cost.

There was also piracy on the Gamecube. And we know the Gamecube wasn't a real success, so it will not be a problem for Nintendo.
W can say the same for the Nintendo DS, but the sales are extremely good.
