GP2X vs. ipod for video watching

Which is better for watching video, gp2x or ipod? I know that storage-wise ipod is better, but I dont care about that. I care about pure video format compatibility and video quality (screen).
I know I can download any video file from my PC to GP2X and watch it without any problems. I'm concerned that ipod has some kind of a "block" so that I can only watch videos obtained through itunes or somth like that. I like freedom without restrictions. Can someone shed some light on this?
How about quality? Which device is better? What about formats? .mov, .mpeg, and most common formats?
PS: Does ipod force you to only use mp3's downloaded "legally", or you can use any mp3s?
Are there any emulators for the ipod? games? (note, that I'm talking about the new video ipod, NOT the older ones, since I know that there ARE games and emus avalable 4 them) How powerful is the ipod for emus? Can it possibly run GBA roms? (probably not even close) :(
My questions might be too much to handle, but please help, since I'm buying one of these devices for my b-day which is coming very soon. :)
