1. The processor how does it compare to a PC ? would it say be equivelant to a pentium 2 233mhz ? or with twin processors is it much better I know it's difficult to compare but just as a rough guide ?
2. Can 3d games be played on it like Quake2 & Doom2 ? is it technically capable of this standard of game ? I'm not expecting Quake4 or Half Life2 just older FPS if they are converted.
3. Are there any PC ports out there now ?
3. How easy is it to get the emulators up & running ? I've managed to run a few emulators on my PC so I'm hoping it will be as easy as that if not simpler.
4. What's the after sales service like from Gamepark if you have any problems with your console ?
It's either this or a PSP 1.5 off of ebay but I quite fancy getting one of these with a 1gig sd card for £165 brand new,I fancy playing all the old MAME games such as Hypersports,Track & Field god that reminds me of mis spent youth hanging around the chippy.
Thanks for your time.

you cant do jack with the psp in terms of homebrew...well, at least not legally. you would always have to keep your firmware at 1.5 and whenever in teh future there comes a psp game you really want to play, it will require you to have an updated version of your firmware first in order to play that game, which is irreversable unless you install a mod chip in your psp, which is illegal as well. well...
1. its two 200mhz processors, or something like that...
2. yes quake 2 and doom 2 can run...they've already coded ports for gp2x
3. quake2 and doom2...ooh and duke nukem 3d
4. go ask them!

1. It's a dual core ARM processor running at 200mhz each. There isn't a FPU and you can't compare them to PC processors because of the differnet family. Dual core hasn't been ultilised properly yet by home developers but the code and libraries do exist.
2. Quake 1 (ported nicely)+ 2 (not so good) engine has been ported, Doom 1+2 engine has just been released. Duke3D has also made the rounds
3. At present, some still need to run be command line via scripts (ie no GUI), some have, some need files to be in a specific folder etc. Just read the readmes and in general you should be fine. Mame needs ROMs to be converted to the 0.34 romset which can be a little tricky.
4. Best check with where you order/intending to order it from. E.g. GBAX offer 1 year in UK.
If you do order it, make sure you get 2500mah decent rechargables to get any decent play time out of it. At the moment, the scene is still in its infancy so you have to decide between a potential investment or one that has reached its peak.
Regarding the PSP, you may want to check what homebrew is possible on ver 2.00/2.50 exploits and see if you will be content with that as most games nowadays only require 2.5 at most.

Cheers for the help guys I'm still undecided at the minute. Will probably watch for developments on both handhelds over the next month then take the plunge one way or the other.I'm swaying GP2X way at the minute as the thought of all the emulators & classic PC ports sounds so tempting.
