Hi Everyone, I Just Got My GP2x. The Looks Of It Is No Competition to The Beautiful PSP. The Buttons Are Cheap And, I Preffer The Directional Buttons Of The PSP 100 Times More. The Screen On PSP Is Great... Well, as I Said, It Is No Competition.
Why Did I Got The GP2x? well, Mostly To Support The movement, Probably I'll Start Coding For It (But Im Not Quite Sure Of That Yet) And I Just Hate That the PSP Had The Lock From Sony In Each New Firmware. (I Used My PSP For Only Emulators).
Now, Some Questions:
I Put Some MPG files In My SD Card, But They didnt Appeared On The Movie Player. What's Wrong?
Which Are the Best Rechargable Batteries For It?
The TV OUT function Works Independent From The Application that Its Running? I Mean, Everything Will display On The TV OUT?
Thanks!

It doesn't support mpgs (although it should). There may be an external library that you can install to play mpgs or wait for a later version of the firmware

anything that is rated 2500mah or higher

No.
As for the joystick problems, try DaveC's cap from the gp32x forums and it should feel a tin better. Don 't forget about the LCD Tweaker that should reduce some othe scanlines. Personally I prefer the screen over the PSP .. not really sure way but i think it's mostly to do with the blur/low refresh rate on the PSP.

Thanks Yaustar.
I Figured The MPG Thing Already, Since It Worked With All Other Formats.
I Got A Energizer Charger & Batteries Pack 2500mah On Bestbuy.com, I'll Report Later the Performance.
The TV Out Seems To Work fine, but When I Tested One Emulator (Genesis) The Screen Got In Half... It Must Be The Refreshing They Use On the Emulator...
and I Ordered The DaveC Cap Already =)
I Just Need To Check The LCD Tweaker! Thanks For The Hint!

I just bought the gp2x, and I have to say that I am a tad displeased, in ALL description it said it did support mpg, but apparently it does not, and at this point I am afraid to try anything else.
the Mame emulator and Amiga emulators are great and work well, although the overclocking I feel is a bit dangerous.
mp3 support, perfect.
all in all I am pleased, and the idea that people can just come up with better software and codecs for it time after time is just great.
I am just disappointed that they all say that it can play mpg and mpeg but it does not show it.
Shame shame :(
any suggestions?
thanks
Maurizio

The Koreans probably got confused between mpeg4 and .mpgs in translation which is rather annoying to be honest although I haven't used a mpg for years so it doesn't worry me too much.

Ya it seems to be really buggy with 1.2.1 firmware, I'm just going to be patient and wait for whatever comes after 1.4
(ive had MP3's freeze on me a hell of a lot but otherwise its got good sound output even with the speakers)
It will get better though so PATIENCE!

I really feel that $10 is too much to pay for a joystick cap. Is there any other way? Like, would it work to put a piece of masking tape over the current joystick to add friction? I also wonder if it's possible to fashion a joystick cap out of, say, an old joystick or maybe even a modified button (don't know how the cap swapping actually works as I have not gotten my GP2X yet).

Heck, the PSP caps cost about the same for replacements and they are no way as high quality as DaveC's. There was quite a few threads on joystick modding in the GP32X forums, maybe you can get some ideas there. I believe someone used a Golf Tee as a thumb stick.

I don't even have a GP2x (I do haunt the forums, though...I'm a DCEmu regular, and I like to keep up on developments across all platforms), but I have heard a solution that may work for you.
A lot of people have talked about slipping the rubberized grip off the top of a GameCube analog stick, and working that over controller. It supposedly works pretty well.

Sorry That I took Long To Post This: I Got The DaveC Cap And Is Quite Good. Way Better Than The One That Comes With The GP2x. I Recommend It To All.
HOWEVER, It Doesn't Fix The Joystick Control Problem (Press Down and Probably Will Go DOWN/LEFT or DOWN/RIGHT etc)... Forget About Playing Puyo Puyo With the GP2x

I play puyo puyo fine on mine all the time. As a side note, someone is developing a full componment change to a proper 8 way joypad at GP32X.

Hey Yaustar, Don't Tell Me You Have No Problems Moving Down A Piece Without It Going Left Or Right???
And, Do You Have A Link To That Joystick Post? Im Very Very Interested!

Yaustar, Did You already Modded Your GP2x By Your Own?
Im Waiting To See Radek's Final Design. That Will Fix the Biggest Flaw On the GP2x IMOH

I did Too, But Still, It's not Perfect. What About The Genesis Emu Menu? There You Can See How It Is not Perfect.
