[New GP2x Need help please]

I just purchased a GP2X Feb 26 2006 and put the 1.40 Firmware on it.
Many of the games I put on it will not work. (The did not work before the 1.40 upgrade) Those that do work cause the speakers to screech!...and static. I use alkaline batteries, card reader. Many times I transfer something to the GP2X and the 'Install' icon is nowhere to be found. For example, there was a german 'skin' I tried to install with no install icon. Some of the games that will not work are: Cenfirino, Duke3d, Pang etc. I have installed an SDL file do I need more?
Since I purchased this in late Feb of 2006 is this the 2nd version I have heard about?

I would really appreciate it someone would help me.

The second edition does not exist. The first thing you should try is a decent set of 2500mah rechargable batteries. Alkaline batteries don't cut it on the GP2X. Not sure what you mean about the install icons/files as all programs should be executable straight off the SD.

Also try DrMDx as that definitely works.

Thanks for helping me. What I meant my the missing icon was: After transferring a game to the SD card and then placing the card in the GP2X there is no install icon for many of the games...as a result I am unable to install and play them.

I haven't seen a game that needs installation, they are all straight executables into the game.
