I just bought a GP2X and I haven't been able to find info on how to install themes or programs on the GP2X. I downloaded the users manual that tells me how to install games and goes over the basic functions. However it does not cover thems and programs. So if anyone has info that can help me to maximize my use and understanding of the GP2X it would be greatly appreciated.

What do you need to know specifically? Most of the readmes that come with the programs should tell you how to install the games/apps/emus.

Well I can't copy the firmware updater for some reason. It says the lib folder can't be copied. I also can't get it to recognize MP4 videos. And lastly the NES emulator doesn't come with directions. So I need help doing pretty much everything. The only thing I have been able to do is get it to play MP3's.

The Gp2X doesn't support the .mp4 container format but does support MPEG4 codecs such as DivX and Xvid.

Which updater program are you using? The official GPH one or Robs updater?

Which NES emu are you trying to install?

Also are you using Card reader or the USB cable?

I was trying to use the USB mode on the GP2X and my mac unzipped all the files. So I used my pc and installed the 3 files from the first unzip. Firmware is now upgraded. So what video formats does it recognize then. I have got AVI files to work and that's about it. Lastly is there a NES emulator that has the correct Frame rate. All the ones I have loaded and tried really suck. My Palm pilot has a better emulator than what I have found on the GP2X websites.

Side note: Get a card reader, it will save a lot of hassle in the long run.
So far it only supports AVIs encoded with MPEG4 codecs.

There hasn't been a NES emulator that runs full speed with full features yet. The closest one that is still being updated is Fishynes 0.01a.

Rumours of Fday and LittleJohn are floating around but that's about it.

Bare in mind that this machine is only 4-5 month old.

I hadn't really thought about the fact that the GP2X has only been around for a short time. The DRMDX emulator is awesome though so is the GNUBOY. Do you know of a emulator that plays gameboy advance games well? Thanks for the card reader bit. I thought I could get away without having one, nope. I borrowed one from a guy at work today. Talk about fast transfers!!! Also do you know of a good site to get roms at? I used to download roms for my laptop at -----however the site doesn't seem to work anymore. Again thanks for the info

DrMDx was a straight port from the matured gp32 version hence the quality.
GNUboy was for a competition ('nuff said ;) )
Rom links/requests are forbidden on these forums (sorry).
GBA is still a no go at the moment, ideas are chucking around but the hardware is surprising complex mix of custom chips so difficult to emulate at low CPU speeds.

Other eumlators you can try are:
gngeo2x (great neo geo emulator, latest version is 0.6.10 i think)
Mame 1.8 (supports roms for mame 0.34, might need a bit of fiddling)
ScummVM port

Dont forget about the homebrew mix as well. Vektor and Beat2X are two great examples.

Hey does anyone have Davec's contact info. I can't seem to pm him on the message board. It always says I do not have access to do this. I really want to buy one of those buttons he has. Thanks

There is a thread on his joysticks caps in the GP2X general section. Try leaving a message there.

Once again thanks for the info. I was able to get ahold of DaveC. One more question for ya. I am trying to play Beat2x and I followed the install directions and everytime I press start to load a package to play the game just freezes up on me. I have no idea why it is doing this I have done everything I can think of and it still freezes no matter what. Any suggestions???
