Finally after months of waiting the GP2X Wiz has finally been released,

Powered by a 533Mhz 3D flash engine, the GP2X Wiz is the long-awaited update to the beloved Linux based handheld, offering updated multi-media features, a long serving rechargeable battery, a touch screen and a new sleek design.

Play games, read e-books, see videos and play music files. Let the GP2X Wiz be your all-round multimedia parter for all situations.

Besides the existing games that are installed in the console and the commercial releases in development, the GP2X has always been supported by a large homebrew game developing community. By using an open source OS, the handheld gives you an ample amount of room to release your creative power.

Good news to both gamers and programmers! To encourage creativity in the fanbase, the developers, Game Park Holdings is will open a game developing contest, the winners is going to be rewarded with great prizes. Besides this activity, additional downloadable content is in development, and is becoming available soon too.

Get console system emulators that will not run on other systems working on the Wiz and I may consider getting one. But for now the screen size and fact that it does not yet have a strong user base are putting me off purchasing it.

The Wiz already has a large user base. Especially on the development side. Most GP2X devs are supporting the Wiz and the Pandora. So you won't have to worry about no one creating stuff for it. The screen also might seem small to some since it's the size of a DS screen, but it has a higher resolution. It's the perfect size for emulation, plus it's an OLED screen.

Has it still got that second-d-pad-masquerading-as-four-buttons rather than four *real* buttons?

I'll say the same thing i do for every homebrew handheld, if it can't emulate Dreamcast then it has no advantages over Psp.

If I had not bought an iPod Touch some days ago, I'd buy a GP2X Wiz. Well, now I'll buy it in a couple of months. :)

Can someone tell me if this can run mPlayer? It is linux, so I would think it would be pretty easy to port it over. I just want to be able to play any video type, even if they have to be low bit rate.

It has the button layout visible in all the pictures. The rumour about Gamepark changing them was just a rumour.
