Whenever I have an nds file to make an emulator out of, it says "missing file" or "missing required file". What's wrong?

I figured out you use make nds to make an nds file, but when I save a rom into it and try to run it on DualiS, DualiS crashes instantly with no warning. Am I doing these things correctly?
