Even though the BDA association (that's Blu-ray) isn't technically against porn, they sure are making it hard for any porn to get produced on Blu-ray. Sony's just announced that it won't allow its subsidiary, Sony DADC Global, from producing any adult film titles. Seeing as Sony DADC is pretty much the largest Blu-ray disc producer, without their support it's near impossible to get any discs out there.

Of course, the adult industry could find another Blu-ray disc manufacturer to step up and make their discs, but they seem to be going the HD DVD route instead. However, HD DVD's not running out into the streets yelling, "Look at us! If you want next-gen porn, come here!

This is really a bad decision... Porn is a multibillion dollar industry and Sony would be stupid not to produce BluRays for them. Do they want BluRay to fail?

I hate to say it, but they are only helping HD-DVD with this move. Because the porn industry will probably be enough to keep HD-DVD alive and well for the next decade.

This one was one the reasons Beta originally failed. Of course at that time the only other way to get video pornography was 8mm film.

I don't think that it's really the same situation this time around, if you want porn (and are determined to buy it instead of just downloading...) then why not just buy it on regular DVD? Who on earth actually wants a high definition, 7.1 surround sound porn film? "Whoa man, it's like being in the money shot!!!"

Have to agree on that, the porn industry are very happy and comfortable with DVD.. they're cheap to produce and nearly everybody now has a DVD player, there's no need for them to switch to any HD format. This is nothing like the Video vs DVD explosion when porn really helped push the new format.. the difference in quality between DVD and VHS was a huge chasm and people didn't need to invest in new technology TVs to see that difference.

DVD is still a fairly new format in the public's eyes and will be for sometime yet, the porn industry makes so much money on regular DVDs as it is, and even still VHS, they have no need to switch.
