I saw some mentions of "x86" or something that might exclude GP2x, but I'm not sure, and any informed knowledge on what this might mean should be dropped here...

It has nothing to do with the GP2X. All it talks about is playing games on Linux via an abstract application layer such as WINE.

Yes but WINE is not an emulator, it is just an abstract layer for x86 chips. GP2X uses an ARM chip and is nowhere near fast enough to run whaterever was mentioned in the article or Windows regardless.
