but does any body know if its possible to run gba roms from a r4?

Doesn't really matter, as it's not possible anyway. The DS slot is not addressible in the same manner the GBA slot is, so you can't run GBA binaries directly from slot-1. The only workaround I've seen is the EZ-Flash V three-in-one adapter that actually writes to a NOR-based card in slot-2, where the GBA binary is then run from.
