[Can modded Wii play multiplayer over Internet?]

I'm planning to buy modded Wii. My concern is that can a modded wii play multiplayer over Internet? If it can, does it work with both original and back-up games?

Maybe it works with certain modchip, maybe it doesn't at all. I dunno. Kindly enlighten me.
