PSP-2k or the "killer" console

ive had much thought to what my next console will be though i dont know yet

i already own 3 psp's ( and yes...i use everyone of them for different uses...so i coulnt just trade one in ;) )

im stuck between a new PSP-2k and this new "PSP killer"...

i want to get the PSP-2k, but only because...

- Video-Out ( would be great for homebrew )

-64 mb nand flash ( would be interesting to see if that can help in some way in the scene with somthing )

-Being a bit thinner and smaller

-Faster loading of UMD games

now what im not happy with is...

-Doesnt work with any PSP-1k accesories i own

-Removed IR

-If the only thing homebrew wise that is a improvment ( or that can be utalized ) is the Video-Out...i would be pissed

Now, for this new system however.... i havent seen a negative yet.. though i will have some because the same reason for the psp...

Up's to it are...

-Powerhouse beast

-Ability to connect to devices, and has a built on keyboard + video outs ( very nice+++ )

-Touch Screen ( same size as the psp's )

-Open Source!!!

-Linux based ( which if im right, it would be simple as a recompile....please do recorrect me if im wrong :o )

though, the only negative i have is...

-Dont know what kinds of things can be done on it.... ( i really hope amazing things can be done on it )

-----------

So.... im wondering... if you were in my shoes...and you had to choose, what would you be leaning on... PSP-2K? or the Killer :D

your opinions, ideas or whatever on both will make me decide what to get ;)

Thanks for Everything,
PSPdemon

I will be getting The PSP "Killer". The PSP is doning very little for me on my shelf as there is very little that excites me on the platform. The D-pad is awful for diagonals ans the screen blurs like hell with lots of 2D games (e.g. Streetfighter Alpha 3) plus I have to go through all the trouble of downgrading and waiting for developers to constant release new CFW to get full use out of it. The homebrew IMO isn't great at present either. Quality releases are few and wide with a lot of poor ones downing out the excellent few.

The PSP "Killer" is going to be Open source, high resolution screen (higher then the PSP's) and has a lot of community support behind it. If the device launch does go as well as they plan it, there should be interest from the Linux crowd as well.

The hardware developers also have a tradition to send some units to some of the best developers in the homebrew screen as incentives.

PSP-2000:
Is not homebrew capable [yet]

does not have 64mb of NAND Flash. It is 64MB of RAM [Probably a pair of 32MB]

As of now there is no confirmation if the faster load times applies to all UMDs or just those which utilize the function.[none]

Until there is custom firmware on the PSP-2000 then all the new functions do not apply. THe load times are fimware controlled [if above doesnt apply] and the video-out is firmware controlled.

I'd be getting the "Killer", if I knew what it is!

The only reason the PSP is so succesful is because it's a comercial console that most people didn't realise anything about what it could do untill they saw news about it being hacked which consequently caused the scene to flourish. With this 'killer' though hardly anyone will know about it unless they're already in the scene which could cause a smaller scene.

That is what marketing and PR are for when it is close to launch. It is aiming for a different market then the PSP so the scene will definitely be smaller but at the same time, because a small company is behind it, it doesn't have to sell as much to be considered a success.

If you pick up Retro Gamer in the UK, there is always a 1 full page ad for the GP2X, I suspect that the "killer" will be the same and branch out to the Linux mainstream press.

I don't know much about the "killer", so I'd have to so with the PSP-2000.

just 3 words company that support homebrew

instead of fighting it

that was more than three words, and even if it supports homebrew than that doesn't make it superior without much facts of what it can actually do.

The PSP Slim is just another Sony excuse to take Nintendos great idea and steal it for they're own gain.

PSP Killer, I can't wait.

i think that you should get the psp "killer" and then maybe someday hackers will make a chip for the psp that extend the original psp flash so you can have the features of the slim

I don't see any homebrew-advantages of the PSP-2k. The RAM bonus could only be used for MAME emulation and the "Killer" will have that right out of the box (all GP2X apps can be compiled for the new one).

So it's going to be the "Killer", as i already have a normal PSP.

Nope it has double Flash space too

really?
why?
very strange

edit: it has also become apparent that startup loadtimes are indeed faster… 1 second faster. i guess the real test will be the streaming ability.

lol...

i just found that the Slim is pretty much useless now...

I got video out on my psp to my tv... ( though its a much more bulkier setup...lol )

i got RemoteJoy working great and it plays all my homebrew and games right onto my tv :D

so now....it pretty much now makes the PSP-2K useless... lol

I just wish that they would have kept the ir port.... i use alot of things with that :(

Thanks for Everything,
PSPdemon

p.s. looks like im getting the killer so far XD

Touchscreens is nothing new so don't say they are stealing ides from nintendo Touchscreens next must for a handheld and they are nothing new they were invented 1971 also the new console is not a psp clone just like gp32 insend a gameboy clone and just like the gp2x insend psp clone

you have to understand the power difference between the new console and the psp as the OMAP3430 is confirmed for the new console we nou for a fact that the new console is the first
8 gen console OMAP3430 can be clote at 1 GHz so you se the power difference:cool:

lots of things have had touch screens... but how many of them have sold? the ds is probably the best selling "thing" with a colour touch screen

microsoft making a console... why can't they wait for the next handheld generation? the current competition is too crowded, there are lots of ds and psp games, some of them are good. microsoft'd be in a bit of a rut if they go head first into this generation because like the n-gage there just won't be enough titles to pull people away from the ds or psp or gba or any other console that's already out now

i cant understand why we should buy the killer?

the only console it will handle better than the psp is N64. otherwise we psp users has everything almost perfect emulated including PSX!

but if strmn never get the N64 to work at fullspeed perhaps the killer should be considered in mind to buy.
