[Problem going from HDTV to Standard]

Long story short-I brought my PS3 into work today to play it on full 1080p yada yada etc etc and when i brought it back to my house to play on my standard....it did not work! It started up right and i could access my controller, shut it off, and the system from the controller but NO visual what so ever. I did this last time but it took a while to get the video back....Should i have restored the 480i settings before disconnecting it from the HDTV?
