Pirate Bay block ineffective

Following last month's block of The Pirate Bay by UK internet service providers, recently released data suggests the effectivness of the block was short-lived.
One UK ISP has said that peer-to-peer activity on its network returned to normal levels just one week after the blocks came into effect.
Prior to the measures being implemented, critics of the plans warned it would have little to no effect.
Whilst the recent data reveals the failure of the blocks, the BPI has hit back by defending the action.
Chief executive of the music industry trade body, Geoff Taylor, told the BBC: "We'll take further steps to deal with illegal sites that line their pockets by ripping off everyone who makes the music we enjoy."
It has also been suggested that traffic to the site - and P2P activity as a result - increased as a result of the increased media coverage.
The unnamed ISP who shared their data with the BBC said that P2P sharing on their network peaked during the time of the court case.
However, immediately following the ban, this dropped by 11 per cent compared to average levels.
"We saw a fall at the time of the block" stated the unnamed source, "made more dramatic by the increasing amount of such traffic in the weeks leading up to it."
The ISP stressed that these figured related to the overall volume of P2P traffic on the network rather then the number of users.
