thats a pain in the ass....the black part of the analog stick actually splits, and you kind of have to close it in w/ the analog nub and the spring "around" it....kind of align it as its being closed, cuz that spring is a real pain :P

I realize this is a massive bump, however im wondering if you could possably elaborate on this, as i'm currently experiencing the exact same problem. Pics if possable (probrably not, but i whould like an idea oh what it is supposed to look like, more or less.

tried and didn't work first time but allowed me to then get a new analoge unit off ebay and replace it, and its fine now (socom online here I come!)

Alright people, i actually found a solution. I kinda feel like an idiot now, but meh.
