Dreamcast Simpler Dreamcast Internal VGA Mod

For a while ive been trying to make an internal VGA circuit for my DC, my first problem was trying to find the IC chip needed, the second was the tutorial on DevCast although helpful doesnt explain it very well.
So i decided to try and build my own circuit, with alot of mixed results, in the end the best working circuit was the standard devcast diagram without the IC.

Heres how;

Basically you wanna setup this circuit:

The black dots on the VGA connector need to all be grounded. Using either the ground from the PSU or from the AV connector.

By grounding pins 6 and 7 you are telling the DC to output a VGA signal, hence the switch incase you want to use normal composite/RGB.

Where there is RGB coming from the DC and then going through the caps, solder onto the corresponding part of the VGA socket.

Its pretty basic, the capacitators used can be any voltage above 10V and any uf between 100 and 220 although they should all have the same values as each other. the 4700 ohm resistors used have to be that value otherwise you get some scan lines, the 100 ohm ones can vary a bit.

The best/easiest place to solder the wires need for RGB and Syncs is on the back of the DC main board on the other side of the AV port:

That's alot of wires but you may not need that many as i got some for other stuff there aswell, the pinout for those metal points on the back is:

Where the number closest to the spot is the corresponding point on the AV port.

The basic circuit should look something like this once your done:

Then you need to cut a hole on your DC case to put a female VGA port, and you may want a phono socket as well to plug in your PC speakers.

Its a pretty easy mod and the circuit is easily small enough to fit inside a DC, any problems/questions please ask.

Thanks to this site for the pinout of the dots on the back: http://www.segatech.com/technical/vgaadap/index.html
And thanks to the pic on DevCast for giving values on the resistors used.
Basically this tut includes other peoples knowledge, so many thanks to them.

yeah i wouldnt mind, i could mod your DC with a VGA and speaker out, or i could build the circuit and send it to you, you'd have to pay all parts and postage costs of course, PM me if your interested

Im not actually sure as the one you want is the one that sticks out *ahem* so i assumed it was male, although on most other kind of connections the one with cable is male and the port is female. I'll check in maplin.

huh?

alls I know is that you'll want a female port on the dreamcast if you plan to hook up to a vga screen with the common vga cables

like this http://www.raphnet.net/electronique/...DC_vgamod2.jpg

this is wierd, if DC was meant to have internal VGA, a higher power or popular demand would have put it there, well, maybe i just dont know the power of DC VGA

FrierTuck, whenever you post it seems to me to be nonsense. What are you talking about?

The basic point of mods is that you are adding/changing something that was not intended to be there/changed by the manufacturer, whether a higher power wants a tutorial on how to put an internal VGA adapter in a Dreamcast is beyond me and every other sane human on this rock.
