Apple has asked its suppliers to produce up to 80 million iPhone 6 devices for launch - its largest ever initial production run of iPhones.
Between 70 million and 80 million iPhone 6 units will be shipped, according to a report from the Wall Street Journal, compared to the 50 million to 60 million produced last year for the launch of the iPhone 5S and 5C.
The iPhone 6 is set to enter production this month and is said to come in two versions - a 4.7-inch model and a 5.5-inch option. Both screens are rumoured to use in-cell touch panel technology allowing for an even thinner build than usual.
The device is also said to feature metal cases similar to the iPhone 5S, and is likely to launch in a range of colours.
And in case the iPhone 6 display has a high failure rate, Apple has asked its component manufacturers to be prepared to make up to 120 million iPhones.
