Numbers from sales monitor Media Create suggest that Xbox One slipped to a saddening new low in Japan earlier this month.
Kotaku reports that the numbers suggest that for the week ending June 14th Xbox One sold just 100 units across the whole of Japan. That’s less than PS3 (2,633) and even the Vita TV (566).
Famitsu numbers reported by MCV last week put the number at 118, but whichever way you look at it, it’s not good news for the console.
Remember too that Xbox One has been available in Japan for a lot less time than other major markets. The console launched in the UK, US and other markets in November 2013 but didn’t make its Japanese debut until September 2014 – just nine months ago.
However, at launch it sold just half the amount shifted by its predecessor the Xbox 360, which itself was largely seen as a flop in the region. By January sales in the region had fallen to just 300 units per week.
Xbox’s former Japanese boss Takashi Sensui quit the role late last year.
