Microsoft’s latest operating system, Windows 10, will launch in just two days (July 29th), but are you prepared?
The new OS is set to have a number of updated features to benefit both business users and consumers.
While enterprises of all sizes are reading up on issues surrounding the Windows 10 device lifecycle, how to secure Office 365 and the changes and additions to Microsoft’s advanced security and data loss protection, our sister site IT Channel Expert has a handy white paper from MobileIron which answers a number of questions surrounding this subject.

As well as reading up on the changes that are set to occur, there are a number of things business and home users alike can check up on right now to make sure they’re ready from the off to start using Windows 10.
It may seem obvious, but the first thing to do is make sure your PC or fleet of devices are actually compatible with Windows 10.
While Microsoft has said that the new OS will work on most PCs there are minimum system requirements, these included:
- The latest version of Windows 7 or 8.1
- 1GB or faster processor and 1GB of RAM for 32-bit, or 2GB for 64-bit
- 1024x600 display
- DirectX 9 or later graphics card with WDDM 1.0 driver

If your PC or tablet is good to go, you better backup your files and make some space – you’ll need at least 16GB of space to install the new OS.
Finally, make sure you’ve actually reserved your copy of Windows 10. Users need to download the Get Windows 10 app. All you need to do is click ‘Reserve your free upgrade’ in the app windows on your Windows device and enter your email to confirm the reservation.
Windows 10 will launch on July 29th globally and will be available as a free upgrade to customers using Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 in 190 countries.
